Direct TV Screwed me
I ordered Direct TV six months ago because I saw the deals for cable for $29.99 a month. I ordered that along with the cheapest internet they have which is $49.99 a month plus a $200.00 non refundable purchase of satellite equipment. They told me that came with wireless internet so I assumed a would be getting a router. Wrong. They don't provide or even let you rent a router so I had to buy one for $50.00. They said that I could receive up to four boxes for my house when I signed up (you have to pay in advance for everything) when the technician arrived he would only give me one box because I only had one television there since I had just began moving in. When I called the next day to get another receiver THEY SAID IT WOULD BE $200 FOR ANOTHER RECEIVER AND $50 TO HAVE IT INSTALLED. Also, my first few months bills were for $130 because that $29.99 was a load of crap. You have to go online and request a rebate and it takes two months before the rebate starts being applied to your bill. Within the first two months with Direct TV I spend over $700 to have basic cable and internet. RIDICULOUS. And it is the slowest internet I have ever had. I live in an area where they only offer direct TV so I had no other option but to sign a two year contract because that is the only way you can get service with them. This is the most screwed I have ever felt by a cable or service provider. Bastards. BEWARE!

Rebate and Billing
My roommates and I finally decided to get Direct TV a few months ago. We were told that we would pay $49.99 for 2 years after we turned in our online rebate. We filled out the rebate that night, but when we finally received our bill we were charged $75.72. After talking to a direct TV representative, we were told to just turn in the $49.99 and they would fix the extra charge for us. Today we received our 2nd bill which totaled $102.74!
($75.72 for this month, + the $25.73 from the previous statement, + $1.29 late fee)!!! We talked to a representative again today who told us that they didn't receive the rebate until the day the installer came so we would not receive the rebate until the next statement, even though I have a printed conformation of the rebate that says it would be applied to our first bill! The lady told us that didn't matter. I am really disappointed with Direct TV, they have a great variety of channels and the picture is great, but they really need to get their stuff together. If I could do this over again I would definitely choose a different cable provider and will definitely never recommend them to anyone. If we do not receive the rebate on the next bill, we will have to cancel.

Avoid like a plague
I made the mistake of expecting to see the television come on with some sort of entertainment when I turn it on (after all, there are over 200 channels available with Direct TV). Instead, I have to repeatedly call Direct TV over and over to get permission to watch simple programming. If you don't watch a receiver for a couple of days, then a security feature kicks in that requires a call to "mission control" to get the receiver re-activated...annoying to say the least. The dish itself has been problematic with two major mechanical malfunctions within six months. I was out of service for a total of 17 days. If you call them for service...they charge you for it regardless of the origin of the problem. I'm sick of Direct TV, but they want hundreds of dollars to escape their "service".

Will Not Send Check For Refund
I cancelled my service with Direct TV April 30th, 2009. Found out in May they had not cancelled, so it was cancelled again. I was told by Direct TV in May 09 I was owed a refund of $73.35 which I would not receive until after Sept 4, 09 because it would take that long to process. Evidently Direct TV has no personnel which is trained to give refunds & it takes 6 to 8 weeks to train them. Just my opinion. Have called customer service & billing 6 times since Sept, each time I have been told my refund was being escalated higher up and I would receive my check within 10 days. It is now Nov 5th, I have just called Direct TV again and spoke with a Supervisor named Jacob and once again been told the same thing. It amazes me that each & every month I receive a statement from Direct TV showing they owe me the refund, but they can't send the check and be done with it. I believe now all customer service reps AND the entire billing dept. with Direct TV is trained by Direct TV to lie, put you off and then laugh their heads off when they get off the phone with you on how they just scamed you again. I also believe there must be something we can do as previous customers and consumers even if it means filing suit which will be a good bit more than what the refund owed, but now it has come down to the principal of thing. I realize Direct TV assumes if they put you off long enough you will give up. Where are the laws put in effect by the lawmakers of this country against such blatant, arrogant dis-repect for consumers by Direct TV?
IT IS TIME DIRECT TV BE TAKEN TO TASK IN A COURT OF LAW AND I FOR ONE HAVE THE DOCUMENTATION & RECORDINGS TO PROVE ALL I HAVE STATED.

extended contract
I called direct tv to get a HDTV converter box for my bedroom tv and the customer rep. instructed me to go to Best Buy to buy a box. So I went to purchase the box only to fine out later that night that the box was leased. When receiving my bill today to learn that they had extended my contract tried contacting Freddie u8612 and Chris @Corporate and they feel they didn't do any wrong but apoloized for me not being informed that I wasn't buying just leasing a box with a contract.

Unauthorized Withdrawal from checking
I had ordered Direct TV in June 2009, after doing some research on this company I found so many negative comments it made me very uneasy. I decided to cancel my order before installation took place. When I had placed my original order I had accidently selected a DVR box, then the web site froze. I called and cancelled the DVR box since it showed a 99.00 charge with minutes of ordering. I received a cancellation number. A few days later I notice a debit to my checking account for 107.66.

Over the next few months I have made 6 phone calls and get a different story every time. My last phone call resulted in them asking me to send a letter to Human Resource. I've yet to hear back from them and it's Nov. I am SO glad I cancelled their service before installation. I'll stick with my comcast which doesn't require you to be locked in, charge outrageous cancellation fee's and provides good customer service.

I think they just want to wear you down and hope you give up.

Over Charged
This is what I sent IMMEDIATELY to Directv when I realized I made an error in ordering on their website:
"Customer (Thomas Lower) - 11/01/2009 11:28 AM
I was trying to find programing information on the NFL Package and tried subscribed by mistake. I tried calling your 800 number to make sure I was not charged for this and i was not able to get though. I was put on hold, then hung up on twice. I do not want the package, I have not watched the package and I do not intend to pay for this package. Please do not charge me and please make sure I am not subscribed to the NFL package."

This was their response today:
"Response (Michael H ID U8397) - 11/02/2009 02:57 PM
Dear Mr. Lower,

Thanks for writing. I understand your concern about canceling the NFL SUNDAY TICKET and SuperFan and I can help. I have reviewed our information and see that sports subscriptions can’t be cancelled, transferred, refunded, or credited after the season starts. We have found that your account reflects the correct amount due. DIRECTV is unable to honor your request to remove the NFL SUNDAY TICKET sports packages.

Thank you again for writing and allowing us to respond to your concerns.

Sincerely,

Michael H. ID#U8397

Here is my response today:
"Another reason that I will not be renewing with your company. I have been a customer for over 3 years, I always pay on time and this one time I ask for something to be removed after I mistakenly subscribe, you cannot accommodate. I sent the email and called IMMEDIATELY after I mistakenly ordered the package. The way that you advertise the package shows it as $49.00, which is why I ordered, then realized that it is only one of four payments AND I couldn’t even watch the game I ordered for. Your company has scammed me and I cannot wait until I can stop doing business with you. Please check out my postings at ripoffreport.com and with the BBB. I am really disappointed with how you do business with a long standing client, pathetic. I will make sure that all my facebook friends and tweeter followers know about this poor client service as well. Like they say, good news travels fast, bad news travels faster. I am sure the damage to your brand will do far more harm to you than ripping me off for $200."

Raised Rate.
I moved from cable TV because of rate increases and explained this to direct tv...I explained to the associate that I was on permanent disability and on a very limited budget. He was all about getting into a plan that would fit my budget. I told him I needed a plan that was about $50.00 a month. He got me into a plan. Everything was fine for about six months. Then the plan jumped from $50.00 a month to $71.00! When you call they tell you that this was an introductory rate...The sales associate NEVER said anything about an introductory rate. Stay away from this business, they use misrepresentation and then trap you into a contract that you cannot afford! Then you are stuck paying the higher rate or the cost of the two year contract if you cancel. Heed my advise, they are a sham!!!
