Special Offers
I had soooo many incorrect answers by telephone reps since inception in March, I can't believe I actually went through with the installation. I was promised the world & got a few credits...All I am asking is to allow me to upgrade to HD DVR receiver without having to pay $200. I feel DTV is not loyal to its existing customer base and feel the customer service after the sale is tremendously lacking. Your reps, however very polite, cannot acheive a high level of customer service without making themselves sound foolish.. Please listen to some of the recordings.
Please reconsider your policy on equipment fees for upgrading mid contract. I can promise you a lost customer at the end of my contract.
Please don't misunderst and me, I LOVE Direct TV but feel this is an injustice to us, the loyal customer.
Thank You,
Ed ( [email protected])

Poor service, bad reception, misleading charges and fees
We were never really satisfied with Direct TV but with what choices there are, it was the lesser of evils. Our biggest problem with Direct TV is that you lose the signal constantly - if there is even a hint of a storm we lose our signal. Customer service was good for like the first 6 months to a year, then it went downhill - fast. Now, they took Versus away which was the icing on the cake.
We originally ordered Direct Tv in Nov. of 2007 with a 2 year contract. In June of 2009 our main receiver, HD/DVR stopped working. I called and after 1/2 hour of trying this and that, they said it would need to be replaced. They shipped out another receiver to me and I hooked it up and everything was fine. Well, back to normal i should say - signal strength still sucked.
We recently obtained ATT Uverse in our area so i called them and found out I could get the same deal i'm getting with Direct TV at $20 less per month. So i called Direct TV to cancel - my committment should have been up in Nov. 2009. I was informed that - GET THIS - since I had to have a replacement receiver installed (by me, not them) it AUTOMATICALLY renewed my two year subscription!!! are you kidding me? So now i am either stuck with Direct TV until June 2011 OR I have to pay $499 in cancellation fees! I didnt sign another two year contract, didnt agree to another contract, they didnt TELL me i would be stuck in another contract when I called about the new receiver at ANY time whatsoever, but the CSR told me that the original contract stated that if i had to replace damaged equipment (which they provided for free - as they SHOULD!) it would renew my contract. what a load of crap! Direct Tv is all about hidden fees, and tricking their customers into staying by deviant little manuevers like this. it is probably the ONLY way they are able to keep any customers.
Just a warning to anyone considering them! I would NOT sign up with them! wait for ATT Uverse - there is no contract, no installation charges (Direct TV charged me $225!!!) and their services automatically includes HD and DVR - no hidden fees! I am seriously considering cancelling my Direct TV anyway and fighting them in court. SOMEONE needs to stand up for the consumers rights!

bad service, over a year they take money from my card.
I have had direct tv for over 2 years! the worse tv service. Ordering movie's was the biggest hassel. You could not do it unless you called and waited on hold for however long. Tell the representive what movie you want after going through all that the movie would have already started. It's not when you want to watch it, they have a time for you. You cannot rewind or pause. I have ordered movies a few times after cancelling my service a year later they take out more money claiming they never billed me for all the movies i ordered. without even getting a notice i look on my bank statement and see the charges already taken out! You have so many ridiculous channels! I mean spanish, and channels you would never even watch. Some channels didn't even show up. How many times are you trying to watch tv and it goes in and out. The satellite was constantly searching for network. The representives that worked their are the worse. There so slow, very clueless. Did they get training or what? I am so happy to be done with direct tv. It's way to expensive ! they tell you get however many channels to find out about 3/4 of them are just a blow. I have been done with directv and cannot believe they are going to send me a check for .20 that is TWENTY CENTs then a week later take out big money for movies I clearly remember paying for. who keeps their statements! do not get direct tv! they will rape you for money! time! and tons of inconvience!!

Fraud
They were sending out, weekly, fliers advertising 150 channels for 29.99. I signed up for this package. The terms were that you had to do a online survey to actually get this rate. I did the survey. This was back in May of 2009. To date (October of 2009) they have been charging me 59.99 a month. I call every month only to get the run around. Either they tell me I did not do the online survey, which I did, or they tell me they do not have this offer. I have gathered numerous fliers (that I continue to get) showing that they do offer this package. There retort is that the 29.99 package is only for 57 channels.
MY NEIGHBOR IS ALSO HAVING THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!!
PLEASE BE AWARE DIRECTV IS NOT WHO THEY CLAIM TO BE. NOW I AM STUCK IN A 1 YEAR CONTRACT, BEING CHARGED A PRICE I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR AND IF I CANCELL THEY WILL COME AFTER ME FOR EVEN MORE MONEY FOR MY NOT HONORING THE CONTRACT. WHAT A WORLD WE LIVE IN THAT BIG BUSINESSES CAN RIP OFF THE LITTLE GUY.

Breach of Contract/Early Termination Fee
I have had to contact Direct TV on numerous occasions over the past five years to complain about service or lack thereof . Each time I am told the same rehearsed speech.."I am sorry for this sir I would be upset too. I know what you are going through." The reason I am upset this time is because my wife purchased the NHL Center Ice package for me and we are not getting the service that was previously provided or agreed upon. Specifically, Direct TV is in contractual disputes with Comcast sports and therefore does not broadcast the "VS" channel. Numerous Hockey games I watch are broadcasted on "VS". Direct TV is not providing this channel anymore, and they are also not providing the games on an alternate channel. If I was made aware of this ahead of time I would have, at minimum, not purchased the NHL package!! Since Direct TV didn't tell me this ahead of time the package is useless to me. I purchased NHL center Ice because for the past two years "VS" has been a part of this package. I thought that Direct TV would broadcast the games on another channel but apparently was mistaken. In addition the hockey season is three games in and as of today Direct TV still does not have a schedule to download. I am tired of jumping through hoops to get situations with Direct TV settled and want out now!!! I am now being told that if I cancel I will be billed an early cancellation fee of about $120.00. I feel this should be waived not only for trouble I've gone through in the past, but also for what I am going through now. I feel Direct TV has breached my contract by not providing important package details as well as for providing misleading information. I feel that I should not have to pay for an incomplete sports package, when it so clearly states on the commercials that the buyer has access to all the NHL Hockey games. I can appreciate all the attempts to retain my business, but at this point I would just like to be able to cancel my subscription without penalty.

Installed without permission
Because of the economy we were forced to rent our home last year. Direct TV installed two satellites on our rooftop, ran wires down the side of our house, and drilled holes through our vinyl siding and walls WITHOUT our permission. When we evicted the renters, we found the hardware. I contacted Direct TV customer service, and I spoke with three different customer service representatives (Marshall, Mario and Ashanti). All three told me that (1) they only require renters to gain verbal permission from landlords to install equipiment, (2) they couldn't speak with me about the damage the company had done to OUR house WITHOUT our permission, (3) they have NO system in place to check who owns the property (even though it's public knowledge that can be easily found), and (4) they take absolutely NO responsibility for damaging property by installing without permission. I was told that I could speak with someone at the damage claims office, but when I tried to contact them, I was unable to reach anyone because they only deal with account holders.
Further, I spoke with Emily at the Direct TV President's office. Emily also told me that Direct TV takes no responsibility for ensuring that property owners give permission to install Direct TV or for damaging our house by installing without our permission. She told me that they have so many customers that there is no way to check to see who owns the property. (They are obviously more concerned quantity and the almighty dollar than quality.) When I asked to speak with her supervisor, she told me that she is a manager who has been given authority to make decisions. I asked to speak to the President, Larry Hunter, and Emily told me that he does not take phone calls because he works with "the business end, not customers."
On the Direct TV website is a form that is supposed to be completed prior to installation. This form requires landlords to sign that it's okay to install Direct TV on the property OR requires renters to sign that they have spoken with the landlord and have been given verbal permission to install Direct TV equipment (including drilling holes in walls). When I asked all of the above people to produce the signed form for me, they could not do it first. Further, I was told that the account holder (in this case, the renter) had to file a "damage claim"; I cannot do so, even though I own the property that was damaged without the permission of my husband or me.
With all persons I spoke with, I heard the standard lines - "I understand your frustration, Ma'am", "I realize that you are upset", "the account holder has to file the damage claim", etc. As expected, they all had been trained in deflection tactics.
The bottom line is this: (1) Direct TV damaged our home by installing equipment, including drilling holes in the walls and damaging our vinyl siding, without our permission; (2) they are more concerned about making money than doing the right thing; and (3) they are assuming no responsibility fothe damage and, instead, are pushing it off someone else. As I told Emily, this issue could be resolved amicably by either (1) Direct TV restoring our home to the original condition prior to the installation (with regard to the Direct TV installation only) or (2) sending me a check for an amount sufficient to cover the damages. Of course, no one was willing to discuss the actual issue or possible resolutions.
One more thing ... during none of my conversations did anyone ask my name, where the property was located, or even say "I'm sorry about what happened." What a shame that Direct is too big for its pants to remember that it's the "little people" who make them the giant they think they are.

bad TV
There are two programs that I really enjoy on TV. Those two are The Pittsburgh Steeler football games and the PBR, professional bull riders. When I signed up for Direct TV, Qwest told me they had the Versus channel. That is the one where the PBR can be seen on week-ends. But, when you go to that channel it says that Comcast has control and won't allow Direct TV to broadcast the PBR.
Now, tonight, Oct. 4th, the Steelers are playing on TV and the satellite is out, gone, not there, NOT BROADCASTING. I am angry, disgusted and wish I had never got involved with Direct TV, Qwest, or anything they say they have. Both of them stink, suck, and do NOT charge according to their poor service.
When the contract is up with them, you know the one they make you sign because their service is so bad, I will be gone from satellite TV FOREVER!!!
If their services were reliable they wouldn't have to force people to stay with them for two LONG, LONG, LONG YEARS.

NFL Ticket HD
I was offered NFL Ticket by Direct TV for $59.99 a month for 5 months. I went to record the Vikings/Lions game on 09/20/09 on the NFL Ticket HD channel. I went to watch it & no picture. I called them the next day only to find out the package they offered me didn't include the HD games, this wasn't explained to me. It's an additional $100 for the HD games. After finding out somebody I heard on the radio got it for $50, I called back on 10/04/09. I webt thru 3 supervisors & nobody would help me. I jusgt wanted to be met half way & get the HD games for $50, but no go.
