bad service and wrong billing
In July of this year I was without TV for 5 straight days and every time I called Direct TV to complain and to find out what to do to get it fixed they gave me the run around and one on their workers even suggested that I should just disconnect my service. Direct TV sent a new receiver to me to fix the problem, but they also sent me an increased bill shortly afterwards and every time it rains there are several channels I can't watch because they are scrambled, doesn't matter if its a little rain or a lot of rain. Having TV service should not depend upon whether there is a cloud in the sky in this day and age. I wouldn't be surprised if Direct TV has invested in other TV cable or satellite provider companies because it is obvious to me the way Direct TV treats its own customers it can't expect to keep customers so the it probably is resorting to making money from investing in providers that customers are moving to. That is just a theory. Friends don't let friends get Direct TV, I wish somebody had told me that before I got Direct TV because I regret doing business with Direct TV.

Read The Fine Print If You Get It
I just canceled my Direct TV due the high cost of service. For the past 2 years I have had Direct TV. Every time it snows I lose service. Every time it rains I lose service. The original installer put my dish on top of my roof where it destroys the beauty of my house. I have asked Direct TV to move the Dish and every time the Direct TV contractor said it could not be moved. They all suggested I just crawl up on the roof to brush the snow off the dish. Maybe they should come and do that so we can eliminate these people from the gene pool. I found the alternative, get rid of it.
When I decided to cancel the service, I was told that I signed up for a new two year contract in January 2009. If I did I was not made aware of it. The servcie representative I talked to about cancelation insited that I was told about the contract when the DVR was installed. I installed it myself so that was a lie. Because of the alleged contract I am being charged a $300 early termination fee, what a rip off. My cost of TV service went from $45 per month to $82 per month and my service (number of channels and premium channels) was reduced. What a rip off. I will make sure I tell everyone I can what a great deal Direct TV is. I am glad to be done with your service. I now have a better picture, same channels and pay about 50% for Television service. I even get a few good channels not offered by Direct. GOOD BYE!

Protection Plan
I recently signed up with Direct TV for their satellite service. I am paying a monthly fee to rent each receiver. I got in the mail today a confirmation for an additional $5.99 per month for a protection plan. When I called for an explanation, I was told that if anything happened beyond the first 90 days that they would not be responsible for repair or replacement of any of their equipment. What kind of a company is this that charges a monthly fee for equipment rental, but won't stand behind their equipment. Very disappointed.

Earlt termination
Direct TV is a JOKE!!! I ordered the service...they didnt tell me i couldn't get locals...so i canceled and ordered cable. now they want to charge me a 450 early termination!!!
What a joke... i wouldn't cancel if they had locals!! LAME LAME LAME

Roof Damage & Overcharges
Direct TV's installer damaged my roof, left their trash and debris on my roof causing a large leak. I have a brand new roof. Then to add insult to injury we never received the promised services we agreed to. The freebies that were an incentive to change to Direct TV cost over $500. How can any satellite service cost over $950 for less than 30 days. Direct TV will not return my calls or fix my roof.We have never received any adjustments for all the money we have overpaid.Then they have the gall to turn me to collections for early termination. The Better Business Bureau won't do anything except to say there are over 45, 000 complaints against Direct IV. This company is very deceptive and has no customer service.I would never reccomend this company to anyone. Don't waste your time or money...

Overcharged
In August 2007 I decided to order cable television. The first question asked is your social security number. I am reluctant to give that information and asked if I could do something else than give out my number. I was told that they (Direct T V ) could charge a credit card $300.00 (Three hundred} and if at the end of one year, if all payments had been timely they would credit my bill by $10.00 a month.
After having the service for 6 months I decided it was not worth the money and cancelled the cable. I was told I would be charged for the six months left on my contract. My credit card was charged an addition $68.00
I have called on several occasions and been given different reasons why they won't return the deposit.

Money stealing company
Direct TV stole 645.00 out of my bank account via the internet, Heres my story. My daughter set up an account with Direct TV. My name was not even on the bill, it was totally her responsibility, I paid one bill from my debit account period!!! She quit paying the bill due to lack of funds. Tonight I have discovered that 645.00 was debited out of my account without my knowledge or consent. My name is no where on the direct TV bill, nor is my daughters name on my bank account. My daughter is 24 and a fully responsible adult.
I have spoken with direct TV and of course it took me 3 supervisors located in the Philippines to listen to my story. the response I received was that they would refund my money in 10 business day, admitting their mistake that they took money out of my account without my knowledge. The last thing I heard was that that was stealing. I am now over drawn in my account and will most likely be charged with penalties. I would just like to let people know what a fraudulent company this is and I intend to let others know as well. I feel violated and I think they are thieves. Someone ought to report them to the sheriff or at least let the buyer be ware.

Blatant scam
I have discovered that Direct TV has been charging me, and I'm sure many other customers for Receivers that are not in use. every time I have replaced a receiver in the past several years, they have charged me for the new receivers, and continued to charge me for the receivers I have disconnected. The charge is only $5 per month, but over several months, with possibly thousands of customers, this blatant fraud could add up to millions in additional revenue for Direct Tv.
what happens is this: You must call Direct TV to activate a new receiver. When you call they ask what room of your house you are in. Then they ask for the card number of the receiver. They have NEVER ask me if I was using the receiver I was disconnecting any more. They simply continue to charge you.I discovered that I am being charged for 7 receivers, and I only have had 4 active receivers for at least 4 years.I have talked with several other Direct TV customers the past few weeks, and the same is happening to them. Direct Tv should ask the consumer what they are doing with the receivers they are replacing, so the consumer does not continue to pay for them. They do not ask. which tells me this is a blatant intentional attempt to charge the consumer for something they are not getting.If you consider the tens of millions of Direct Tv customers across the country, this amount is surely in the millions. I have taken this up with Direct Tv, they have only offered to credit me for the past 2 months. By my calculation, they owe me at least $700. One can only imagine the number of receivers replaced around the country the past few years, with HD now available. To get HD, you have to replace your old receiver with a new HD receiver.Since the extra charge is only $5 per month, many consumers are not noticing this on their monthly bill.
If you think about this, you will agree, the proper way for direct Tv to handle this, is to ask the consumer if they are permanently disconnecting the old receiver, so they will not be charged the monthly fee. They NEVER do this. which tells me it is intentional.

Terrible customer service
Direct TV provides an option if the customer does not want them to check the credit history. Since I did not want to add another 'inquiry' on my credit history, I paid $ 200 up front as they would reimburse me on bills over some period time.
On the day of installation, a technician cut off my cable internet service even though I asked him on the phone to be careful about it. He just left the site cutting my internet service. The signal was poor and switching channels takes too much time. Because of some glitches on online ordering, I did not get HD access... anyway, overall service was unsatisfactory so that I cancelled the service on the very first day, even refusing $ 150 credit. (customer rep proposed me when I wanted to cancel)
Now they say that $ 200 is not-refundable fee. First of all, they did not provide me about it during online order processing, and I still cannot find that policy on their web site. Maybe there is that policy in tiny little section somewhere their web site. If that is so, I still think this is totally unfair and fraudulent. $ 200 wasn't for them to keep when the customer cancels the service but when the customer becomes 'delinquent'.

Terrible company
I have been batteling with direct since I have joined them in dec 2006. When I signed uo they promised me a Free Portable DVD player I call then continuosly every mont since then and they it will be shipped in a few weeks. When I complain that it is duly noted and as soon as they can the will mail it. I have a higher biller each and every moth with no warning or anything. I would to see how you can handle this company and getting the portable dvd player I am entitled to for over a year now.
