Customer Service
I have been a Direct TV customer for over 8 years. I have had problems with reception for over a year. Their techs told me they cannot find a "line of sight" to get reception for my dish, so I need to cancel and find another provider. Comcast can fill that need. I called Direct TV to take back their dish, cables, etc. They told me tonight that they will not remove any equipment for me--or even help me identify Direct TV cables that are strung all around my house so I can remove them myself. Although I am still paying for service and pay extra for their "protection plan, " they will not send a tech over to help me identify their products for removal. They told me to hire someone myself and pay for it myself. BUT, if they don't get their HD receivers back, they are going to charge me for anything I don't mail back. They refused to tell me the address of the local affiliate so that I can work with them directly. William, Tech #1828, refused to send me an email to confirm our conversation, tell me his full name, tell me his location or help me in any way resolve these issues. I did not want to cancel Direct TV, but clearly they do not want my business.
DO NOT BUY DIRECT TV SERVICE if at all possible. They screw you on the front end and the back end. Hmmmm.

Business & Billing Practices
I fulfilled my 2yr contract (2007 - 2009) and called to cancel, only to find out that when I updated my receiver to an HD receiver my contract was automatically renewed without my knowledge. At that time of conversation, this was not explained to me.It was not brought to my attention until I called to cancel. When I had the service installed, I had a HD satellite installed as we were having HD service then. It turned out I had HD service since 2007 (we also had a DVR installed at this time). Then in 2008 had another HD rec installed. This is what they say changes my contract. We feel since we already had HD Service since 2007, and when I called for another in 2008, we should not have to pay this. Also this was not mentioned to me in the phone conversation, about their change in contract.I have spoken to many customer service reps and they sided with me and one of them also told me that I should not be charged at all. The other ones I spoke to denied that anyone ever told me that.Rudely!, in that conversations. Therefore, money was automatically (almost $400.00) was taken out of my bank account, unauthorized.I told them on the phone that I would be sending a check for the amount even though I did not agree to the fact that I owed this. I was mislead and deceived.Their customer service is rude and degrading. Making me feel like it's all my fault when really they are not being ethical AT ALL! I returned the equipment and they sent me a bill which was marked final, now they told me they read the cards that were in the machines and told me I had PPV charges on them. I did not dispute the charges. I told them in 2 separate conversations that I would be sending a check for the amount due. But yesterday, They took out of my bank account, Unauthorized again, the amount. This is not good business practice, and I feel robbed and that anyone can take money from your account at any time. This is not right and infringes upon privacy, which a person is entitled to!!! I would never do business with Direct TV, ever again, even if they were the last TV service available, and would discourage other people from doing business with them. This is a horrible practice and a horrible company!!!

Took my money out of my personal bank
To Whom It May Concern;
I just recently ordered your bundle service package with Direct TV, Internet, Telephone. I have not had this service long. I called recently to cancel this contract due to the fact that you did not honor my part of the contract. I had multiple issues that never got resolved. I want you to remove any early cancellation charges and I do not to expect to owe you or Direct TV anything. You need to go back and access all of these problems that I have had with your company and consider payment in full . I will be sending your DVR and Receivers back to you immediately. Please read this list below to explain some of these issues.
My Internet was to slow and I couldn't even watch a news video it would freeze up. The connection was too slow. Then I would try to check my emails and it would freeze up. I would call in to try to get someone to [email protected] these problems and I would get to talk to people that I barely could understand and they barely understood me.
Every time my Internet would stop working so would my Home telephone. I have went for three days at a time without Internet and Telephone service. This happened all the time.
When I received my Direct TV bill it would be 3 times the price that was quoted to me on this contract. This service is two times more expensive than Time Warner.
Then when all of this is happening I get several of your contract persons out in my back yard digging to bury the cable. They came out on my property three different times and tore up my grass. I would go outside and ask why they kept on digging up my yard and they told me that they were instructed to dig this cable by AT&T .When I contacted AT&T they had me to talk to their Risk Management Department, they took my complaint gave me a confirmation number and as of date nothing has been resolved.
Then Direct TV goes in my personal Bank and gets out 538.12 out of my checking account without my authorization. I did not give them permission. I called Direct TV and asked them why they took my money out without my approval and they told me that when I first signed up they took my debit card information and that I knew according to their policy that gives them permission to get the money owed to them if I cancel services early. I had no knowledge of this policy, and certainly didn't give permission to them to do this . This act is criminal. No merchant should have the right to go in your personal bank unless you authorize the payment. I want you to know that I went ahead and filed a police report. because this is nothing more than stealing from my personal account.
I also would like to point out that does this mean for example that if someone owes a electric bill and because the electric company has your debit card information on file from previous payments they can go in my personal Bank and pay the bill without my authorization of course not only crooked companies will do this. I want my money refunded to me immediately.
I also asked Direct TV to get their company to come and get the dish off my roof. I do not expect to be charged for that.
Sincerely,
Nancy Robison

Billing/Customer service
I had Direct Tv set up to automatically get paid on the 4th of the month or after. This worked for a year or so and suddenly I got disconnected for non pay. I called to see and the problem was they started trying to get the money on the 1st of the month. My check doesn't go into the bank until the 3rd. They said I owed them over $1200.00 dollars. For about 12 months, they not only didn't get thier money, they failed to notify me of the problem, they also continued my service for this long period of time without resolving the problem. I asked them to discontinue my service right then and I would go else where for service and by the time I got off the phone with them my service was back on even though I asked them to discontinue it. A month later they turned their service back off and sent me a bill for over $1200.00. This issue remains to be resolved.

Direct TV sucks
I simply cannot wait until my contract expires in March 2010. If I had longer to go I would pay the 300 or so just to send them down the road. In addition to boosting the volume to blast off levels for commercials in general and especially their own which I am sure they cut content to slip in for free, they are the most obtuse company I have ever come in contact with. The latest is that my CC expired for auto payment. I telephoned in a week and a half ago to change it and all was well. I keep getting stupid computer calls to update my card, EVERY DAY. I called in yesterday and the rep stated that the auto pay had to kick in for next month, paying for the two that I owe, and then it would stop. She tried to make the payment then and wanted my 3 digit security code again...I said that the guy I set it up with 10 days ago input the card and she should charge it from there...she states that she cannot. Every time I speak to these blockheads about the many problems I have had I tell them I am gone at contract's end...no one gives a crap.

False advertising, poor customer service
I received a flyer in the mail for Direct TV advertising the Choice Plan with over 150 channels available in HD at a reduced rate. Called and ordered the service with not being told HD is an extra charge! I found out after installation (which took the installer 10 HOURS...he got to my home at 9:00 am and left at 7:00 pm!). I called Direct TV only to find out I did not ask for HD and it would be an additional $100 for the 2nd HD receiver, plus an additional $10 per month. And, the satellite that the installer took 10 hours to install has to be replaced by a HD satellite. The installer also stepped thru my ceiling while in my attic and I am waiting on that repair. Additionally, the discounted price does not take effect until 6-8 weeks after my installation so I will be paying full price for the first two billing cyles. But, now I am locked into a one year agreement! This company is a GIANT SCAM! DO NOT GO WITH DIRECT TV!!!

Do not sign up with direct tv.
I did, i am sorry i ever did. I knew it was for two years. I recently canceled my service. and was told i have to pay 300.00 for early cancelation. I put my two years in, but I upgraded a box from standard to HD that adds two years. never was explained to me when I tried to order it.
Their service blows. they try to nickle and dime you for everything. stay the hell away from them.

system does not work
System failed after 12 hours of instillation call three times on the 8/11/09each time ask for a supervisor each time refered to technical support after speaking with them they assured me they would call back within 30 minutes that never happened no call back.
On 8/12/09 started the process again still does not work . The quality supervisor that review the instillation spent over an hour on instillation day, and assured me that if any problem came up I would get immediate technical support that is a joke.

Improper blling
DiercTV advertises special deals for new customers than requires the customer to send in a rebate form in order to get the special deal. They say the rebate form will be mailed with the first statement. I, however, did not recieved the rebate form with my first statement. When I called to inquire about it, I was told they would take care of it by phone. My next statement arrived, and no special deal and no rebate form. Called again and was td everything would be handled over the phone, that they'd discount $21.00 plus give me HD channels ($10.00) off my billings for 12 months. Next statement arrives, and no special deal, no rebate form, no discounts. Plus I get a letter stating the rebate time period has expired. I call a third time. Of course there's no record of any previous conversation. I explained all that has occured. Am told nothing can be done about rebate, but I would get $20.00 discount on next 12 month statements. What happened to the last reps. promise? How can I beleive this one. Why hasn't Congress passed a consumers rights bill for satillite/cable providers like they did for cel phones? These companies should not be allowed to conduct business this way.

Was over charge
I seen a promotion for 29.99, So I call Direct Tv and told them that I would like to get the 29.99 per month and they came out and install it in. Then my first month was 49.99, and I call a question why my bill was 49.99 instead of 29.99 like we discuss, They told me that they fixed it and send me a another bill with the correct payment on it. So when I receive the second They had 49.99 and something extra on it. So I call back talk to a guy and he told me that he seen the mistake and he would correct it and send me the correct bill which is 29.99 . When I receive that bill it was still 49.99. So I call again and ask them to disconnect it because they was not able to get my bill right . They still was trying to fix the bill, and I told them that I talk to 4 different people, and if they had not get it right by now, I don't need that type of service, so I ask them to disconnect the service. So they told me that I be charge for breaking the contract, {but I sign a contract for 29.99 a month and they broke there on contract when they was not able to give me a bill 29.99 like the contract said. So I don, t think I owe them but 60.00 dollars for two month are I will see them in court. It is not about the money it is about the principle, That they want me to pay for something they could not get right.
