Unauthorized service, terrible support
Direct TV just informed me I have a 1 year contract w/them even though my contract was up years ago. Their reasoning: our bedroom receiver (which we owned) broke & I got one that someone was no longer using (so also owned) & had them switch the signal to the working receiver that I hooked up to the TV. So NO new services, NO new equipment from them but I now have a contract??!! Customer "service's" solution is for me to send a letter & they will reply within 3 weeks of receiving letter. If this is the kind of service you are looking for Direct TV is the company for you. BTW the rep who switched the signal for me never mentioned a contract or I would have just cancelled the service in the bedroom as we do not use it much, just nice to have on occasion. I have been with Direct TV for 10 years and this is the treatment I get...on hold for 15 minutes and then told that they can't do anything and cannot look into anything I just need to submit a letter and wait...and of course keep paying them in the mean time whether I want to or not. Ironic thing is I probably would have stayed with them at least the year or more anyway under normal circumstances as I am used to their channels and menus etc. I am making sure everyone I know hears about their terrible customer service and everyone I don't know that I can reach too.

Refused to help release of contract
My Husband and I moved from another state where we were faithful customers of Direct Tv.We had the company to put a hold on our service while we relocated here to Texas.When we found th place we are living in now, we were informed that we could not have Direct Tv because it required us to have a satalite and we live in townhomes that do have their own rules we have to abide by.When I informed Direct Tv of this and requested they release me of the contract because it was something beyond my control, they told me "it is not their problem, I should look into reporting the place I live at because they do not have the right to tell me I cannot have a satalite.service, then they suggested that I put the satalite dish in a bucket, on my patio, to recieve the service from them.How getto can they get! I requested boxes from them to return their merchandise to them and I am yet to get the return shippment boxes.I am on disability and live on my ssi, I checked my bank account today and discover Direct Tv hit my account for 221.00.No letter, no warning, no expliamation, they just take my money, just like it is theirs! I am beyond discusted because medications I HAVE to have, I cannot even get because of the selfishness and the lack of caring customer service Direct Tv provides.Who knows, when my lease is up here, they could have have a second chance with me if they would have shown a little compassion and acted like they cared, Now, I would not allow my dogs to waste their pea on them.They are not worth it!

RipOff
Thought I was going to be moving, called DirectTV to order their services. Now I am not moving to that ;pcation, so I called to cancel! Their customer service SUCKS!! They will not cancel the order, even after I told them I don't need their service, as I have NO HOME to use DirectTV, they don't seem to understand plain simple enblish, and by the way, they have already deducted their "handling fee" on my debit card, and won't refund that either!! Very dishonest company!! Run don't walk away from these crooks!! Next move I make is to my states Attorney General, (conversion is illegal, and that is what DirectTV has done)!!

Unauthorized Charge on Credit Card
I cancelled my service with direct tv. Little did I know that cancelling a service was going to create such a headache! I went to pay bills and saw that Direct tv charged my credit card over $900 that I never authorized. I immediately called my bank and disputed the charge and then I called Direct tv. The first person I talked to told me that they could do that because I signed a contract. I informed him that I NEVER signed any kind of contract with them. He then proceeded to tell me it was verbal. In what court does verbal stand up in? I asked to speak to a mgr and got some idiot that claimed to be the mgr. This guy was worse than the first one. He told me that they could charge my card with out authorization. ?????????? I never agreed to any of this and then he hung up on me! This is the worst company I have ever had to deal with. Generally when you cancel something you get a final bill and you pay the final bill. I never authorized them to keep my credit card on file. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!

false charges
I moved into an appartment in which I ordered television service from direct tv. Upon moving out in 2009 i cancelled the service and returned the equiptment back to them. About six months later I get a bill in the mail for over $400 in which I do not owe. They keep harrassing me over this money and sent my account to a collection agency trying to scare me by ruining my credit. They are now saying that I did not return the equiptment and that I used it at another address. It is a different reason for the bill every time I contact them. They refuse to listen or try to fix either this missunderstanding or scam they are pulling on me. Today, April 18, 2011 I recieved another bill from a collection agency through direct tv for now $558.97. I don't know how to make this go away, but they are definitely falsely charging me. Advice for those looking into television companies, direct tv can't get their billing right and they obviously don't like when you cancel your service.

Filing a complaint
To make a long story short the technician came to my home and installed a dish antenna incorrectly. The technician left me his name & number telling me to call if I had any problems. The next morning I discovered the antenna was improperly installed. I called the technician who has lied and put me off for over a month so finally I called customer service. The bottom line, as I was told, is that after 7 days "no one in the entire company can file a complaint" and any service call after the 7 days must be paid for in advance ($54.00) before they with schedule a technician to fix the first guys mistakes. I spoke to a customer service supervisor and was told they could do "nothing" and had no way of logging a complaint against the service tech after 7 days. Summary; I m being forced to pay for a tech to fix the first guys mistake and the original technician misled me because he knew that I could not registar a complaint after 7 days.
Direct TV told me they have no way to provide training or any corrective action for their technicians...the problem will never be fixed. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE TECHNICIAN that installs your dish. If you have a problem call the service center immediately or you are stuck.

Discrimination against Russian speaking citizens of USA
Direct TV unfairly discriminates against Russian speaking citizens of USA. I am personally offended by Direct TV commercials. What is worse, Direct TV promotes and supports hate against Russian speaking population. There are a lot of posts online where people quote Direct TV commercials. I suggest to boycott DIrect TV until they stop being racist . Your commercials not funny if they target my place of origin. STOP DISCRIMINATION!

shutting service off
First i had a problem with billing. now they cut one of my recievers off without being told. no matter what number i called noone answered and problably want to bill me for services that they cut off. best bets comcast

Taking charges on my card without authorization
I was charged early cancellation and explaineds in writing that cncellation due to my having to move to an assistant living facility that did not have satellite. Received a call asking for a letter from the complex and the doctor. I sent the info the very next day and several days later, a $350 charge was debited from my card. My account was in dispute and the money they took was for my utility deposit and move. When I called them, they would not give me info for the person to talk to who could reverse this charge until the disput was settled.

Poor service
I called Direct TV on 4/15/11 (Friday) because I had NO service. They responded to me saying they cannot send tech support to my house until 4/18/11. I told them when I had Dish Network and I had a problem they sent someone out within hours..NOT DAYS!! Now we have to do without TV until Monday. They responded to me that the technicians don't "work" on weekend..They offered me a refund of 92 cents. I asked them what it would cost me to discontinue my service and they told me $400.00 since I'm a "new customer"..LOOKS LIKE I'M STUCK WITH THIS NITEMARE FOR A FEW MORE YEARS!! SOOO WRONG!! I HATE DIRECT TV!!!
