No cust. service
WE had Direct TV installed in a rental house for 15 months. At the end of this time we called to have it diconnected. We were informed our contract was for 18 months. I asked for a supervisor and she told me the same. I read our signed contract to her and she said they never had this contract. I asked for a signed copy to be sent to me and was told they don't have one. I explained that I did right in my hand but was again told they never had a contract for less than 18 months and she read the new 2009 contract to me. I tried to reason with her but she yelled at me and told me we would be charged anyway. So we requested a move for the remaining 3 months and when the technician came we had no signal and they voided our contract. While waiting for the return boxes to arrive someone else called and told us that if we didn't return them immediately we would be charged 470 for each one. Great customer service. I would never recommend this company.

False advertisement, terrible customer service
This company has horrible customer service. AT&T messed up totally in ordering this service for us. My specific questions in switching from Dish to Direct TV was that I would be able to continue recording movies (DVR) and be able to pause a show. YES, DEFINITELY, everything will be exactly the same. When Direct TV came out they installed a "standard" box. This was the wrong equipment that AT&T ordered and Direct TV installed. NOW, they want me to pay $181 in order to get the correct equipment in my home.
Their policy and customer service s u c k ! They can't get around this policy and are unwilling to wave the fee for their error all the way up to the office of the president. I am sure that is just a name! There is no reason for the customer to pay for the company's error.
The AT&T customer service agent supposedly used a credit card that I never gave her to get the sale. I am screwed all the way around and am ready to cancel AT&T and Direct TV and they can get their fees from that credit card the rep used to begin with.

False advertising
I ordered over the phone HD cable TV. It was installed on 5/27/2009. I was told that I would receive a promotional rate of $54 and some cents. I asked two different times for a paper bill and a 3rd time today for a paper bill. I was told my bill was $151.00, not the promotional rate of $54. for 12 months. After the first 2 requests for a paper bill, I called again today making my 3rd request for a paper bill. I was told I had to go on the internet and file my "rebate" request with the "rebate" department. " Direct TV refused my email address. When I called in today, they told me I had to pay $75. a month until they were able to start the "54.rebate." Previous call to them told me that I didn't do what they told me to do. Asked for supervisor and he told me "you have to go on line to get the rebate." Until this was approved, I would continue to have to pay the $75. a month. Since I never received any paper bills I requested twice, I asked for them to refund my first payment of $75. that I used my ATM card for. They did return the $75. credit to my account. However, they continued to charge the $75 a month which I have not paid, as I intend to contact every consumer protection resource I can find for help. I also contacted my bank to block any charges to my credit card.
I was never told about the details of my starting their service. Such as having to go on line to get my "rebate." I told them I ordered my service over the phone, and why would I have to go to the website. They kept saying "you have to go online for your rebate." I also told them I would not tolerate such devious practices. I was then told "you have the option to cancel, but there will be charges, but I was not told what they would be. I am at this time looking for another cable TV service.

Customer Serivce
I guess they do not believe in customer service as there is NONE!!! They are a bunch of crooks who don't care about the customer. I would advise you not to use them and go with a local cable company as Direct TV is a bunch of people who don't care about the customer.

contract
We had a two year contract with direct tv in 10/06. In April of this year after many problems they replaced a HD receiver which the old one blew up and now I had cancelled service and switched to charter in June of 09. they told me when you replace a receiver you go back to the orginal contract. They are charging me $420 early cancellation fees. I sent the receiver back as told. I am very upset and hate this company. i have made many phone calls and had sleepless nights over this. What can I do ? They said they will turn it over to an collection agency and our credit has been the best anyone could have.

billing issue
I had service for 3 weeks. the 4th week did not work at all. it took 5 clls just to get my account canceled and get a box sent out to get their reciever back. I was issued a credit of 96.78 with a credit balance of 58.46. that balance i have a copy of on the last statement i had received and promiced i would be refunded in 6-8 weeks. the same response every time i called until JULY 14th now my credit has dissapeared entirely and i am told I OWE THEM 3.54 . i called the 800 num and was blind trnfrd from sales (they stated they don't have a direct line to customer service! are you kidding me. I supposedly spoke to a supervisor 'frank' id 9314 that states everyone else i spoke to previously was incorrect in telling me i have a credit due and I do owe 3.54 cents. he says don't worry, we won't press it for 3.54 but I won't remv it from your bill and i can not remv your cc from this acc. (previously told it would be taken off) more than once. how does this company stay in business? one rep even asked me if my paswrd was XXXX??? then i am told i will receive a credit BACK of 58.46 and 6 weeks later they are trying to tell me I OWE THEM. how can they get away with this? this person 'frank' had NO APOLOGIES for the service not working- no line of sight for their satalite at all! amazing that it worked for 3 weeks to begin with.i can fax a copy or email copy of statment.upload format failed.

Rip OFF for Existing Customers
Direct TV was charging us $89.99 per month for the exact same services that they were offering new customers for $44.99 per month. We called to cancel and they offered us only $10 off to keep us as loyal, long-term customers. After I cancelled our service, I decided to phone them about re-connecting our service. Both agents in the "Win-Back Department" told me that 1.) they could not extend the New Customer deal to me at this time and 2.) those deals were only for New Customers and when I became a New Customer, I was offered "My Deal" at that time. The deal I was offered (when the economy was good) was still available to me, however blah blah blah ... well, I hung up the phone before that conversation could be continued...

Contract dispute, terrible customer service, idiot installers
DO NOT TAKE DIRECT TV's SERVICE! I was lied to by the customer service rep that I would not be locked into a contract. The installers went to the wrong address twice before finally arriving at the correct address on the 3rd attempt. Our bill came in and was larger than what was quoted on the phone. When I tried to pay the bill and cancel the service I was told that I would have to pay over $400 to cancel the contract. WHAT CONTRACT? Customer service stated that they sent the contract to my address. Well, it was STILL the wrong address and we NEVER RECEIVED IT! They they stated that I verbally accepted a contract, but could provide no proof. Once I finally reached a supervisor they were extremely rude and kept stating that the installer provided me a contact. Well, he didn't and no one at DirectTV can provide proof that I accepted any contract. Next they said that I accepted the contract by activating the DVR box. Really? I didn't make that call, the installer did. How can it be legal to lock me into a contract with no verbal agreement and no written agreement?! THESE COMAPY IS LIARS AND THIEVES!!

Unacceptable Incompetence
I have found this company to have the following problems: the sales associates on the phone are rude, the wait times to speak to someone on the phone are unacceptable, they have hidden charges and they overbill you, they give you the incorrect information, and are to put it bluntly the most incompetent company I have ever been unfortunate enough to deal with. I would be very surprised if I was the only customer out there having these specific problems with this business and would be interested in hearing from other consumers in relation to this issue.

Fee for earlier desconnection
I was billed a fee of $176 for earlier termination after being with direct TV for 5 years.
They state it was becuase I upgraded to a high definition receiver a year ago, I was never informed of this particular automatic contract renewal and even when it might be in the user agreement ( I do not see one signed by me during the upgrade) it is on my opinion, a very dishonest practice.
I called directtv and tried to work the issue out with the financial department, but they did not have the cortesy to refund the fee.
I am not going to get the money back, but I want to warn people on being very carefull when dealing with these sharks.
ah...and direct tv will not have me as client never again!!
Thanks,
Jose
