Contact Difficulties
I simply wanted to contact a human being to change my credit card # as this is how I pay for service.
An automated voice advised me that it could assist me with this request or I could speak with agent
for a $5.00 fee. How much of a rip off is that? I must deal with automated voices or suffer additional charges?
I wanted to be assured that I would not be billed twice because they would have 2 separate card numbers on file for my account. I can't get assurance from an automated voice. It is a hell of a practice just stick it to the customer that feels insecure about billing procedures. I tried to complete this task on line, however, I can't seem to get assistance with my password. I am Dammed if I do and Dammed if I don't. I just wanted to update to my new card. It seemed easy enough and I wanted to be a helpful customer. Hell can freeze over before I pay them anything to give them an update that would make their billing and my life easier.

Unauthorized changes to service
DirectTV is an utterly clueless company that cannot control access to your data or explain changes to YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNT INFORMATION. Three times this year (2009) DirectTV has applied unauthorized address changes to my account, changing all billing and service addressed to a place (MARCUS HOOK, PA) that I have never lived (I live in DALLAS, TX).

When I contact their utterly useless customer service organization I have been hung up on, passed around to different departments (looping through the same departments 2 or 3 times), been told that the unauthorized changes 'never happened', and that I 'must have authorized' the changes or they could not have occurred.

No one at DirectTV can tell me how or why these unauthorized service changes occur.

It is clear to me that DirectTV has virtually no control over your personal data, cannot provide audit trail as to who has accessed your account data, and that no one in the company understands how account updates occur.

If you wish to avoid having your personal data compromised then I strongly urge you to AVOID DIRECTTV.

It seems impossible, but DirectTV manages to both SUCK and BLOW at the same time.

Fraud
DirecTV is fraud. They mailed me an offer saying that if I switch to their services from Dish Network they would give me a super package, with no contract, with a DVR, and they said that if I was unsatisfied with the service I could cancel within 30 days.

I called DirecTV asking the reason I got a standard box instead of the DVR as the offer said, and they told me that I ordered the standard box. I asked why they took money from my credit card without letting me know, and they answered was that CS told me about the charges.

I called to cancel the service, I told them that I was unsatisfied with the system they provide, and they told me that that was not a good excuse to cancel the service, that if I want to cancel I should pay them $480 at front. I told the CS that I had 30 days to decide and she told me that not, I had 24 hrs to cancel. I called back and another CS said that I had 15 days to cancel with no extra charge, but she transferred me to the cancellations department. The CS in cancellations department told me that only some states have 15 days to cancel and my state was not one of them. I explained that I do not like their system because I have a disability and it is hard for me to push several bottoms to get to one channel, but they told me that my disability was not an excuse to cancel, that I need to pay $480 at front to cancel.

After reading your postings, I am afraid that more surprises are to come from such fraudulent company DirecTV. I do not have the $480 to stop the service, if I would have it, I would cancel it right now and stop them taking advantage of people who trust America citizens.

Customer Service
Supposed to send a return label for a receiver, have been promised by their customer service department that it would be here in a couple of days on FIVE different occasions. Is the only competition for this vomitous company Dish Network? The government is so busy bailing out everybody, why don't you do something useful and crack down on these idiots??????????????????????!!!

billing
I was billed for a PPV on june 10 which i have records i was in Texas at the time tried to explain to service rep got no response except when my box was exchanged they found that it had a order on it and I told them that I never watch fights so why is this charge on my bill then the young lady (Jean) told me we must just take her word for it, so I ask why don't you take my word Ihave been with the company for over 5 years. Ithink with all the competition out there they would have a better way of satisfying their customers.

Awful company
Back in sep of last year we ordered direcTV of a commercial ad. They were offering 2 credit cards one for 50 and one for 25. I sent in what I was suppose to... They said it would take 6 to 8 weeks, and already it January 2009. We moved since then we moved lost the 800 number so we gotta just sit and wait some promotion thing lol thanks for listening.

customer "no service"
After being with Direct TV for 5+yrs and consistent problems one after another it culminated when their receiver went out and we ere without TV for 5 business days before they could send a repair man.
Once he arrived, he proceeded to say the reason we have been having problems (after installing a new receiver) was a poor installation when the roof dish was originally installed by DirectTV.
We have all channels and the very expensive NFL package and you know what they offered for our being without a TV for a week and numerous previous other outages owing to their poor installation?...$10.00...yep, ten bucks. These guys just don't understand that the "heard will be herd" and we'll go to all lengths to illuminate their poor customer service.

I signed up for DirectTv basic package with three months of free movies plus deposit . The package I had selected, the rates should not have been over sixty dollars a month, I was being charged over one hundred and twenty five dollars a month. For three months the rates were getting higher until I had enough.When I decided to cancel their services because of the high rates, they charged me 421.00 dollars which they proceeded to charge to my bank account which I had requested that they not do because of my son's child support came through that account which only had 160.00 dollars in it.When they charged that account it made it overdrawn which I had to pay seventy dollars in over drat fees along with other fees they incurred which also drove my credit rating down.Because of their action I feel that they pay for the fees I have incurred because of their false ads and rates.

Fraud
I allowed my son to use my credit card to pay his DirectTV bill in June 2009. In September 2009 DirectTV charged my card again without authorization. All attempts to get the charges reversed were denied by DirectTV and furthermore, they refused to take my credit card off of his account. I had to go to my bank, file a fraudulent charge report, cancel my credit card and apply for a new one. DirectTV are committing fraud. Never allow anyone else to use your credit card for a DirectTV account.

Liars, Crooks, Ripped me off for $535.84
Signed up for service on website for free installation and free receivers, after entering my credit card#, I get flashed a $535.84 charge, with no way to correct. Following day I called to get this corrected, and was assured that I would be issued a refund, after 4 phone calls asking where is my refund? their story changed to I was issued a refund for a different amount of $436.84, and even though the 4th receiver was free, by adding a 4th receiver, there was now $99 charge for the dvr. So again, I asked where is my refund? 7 times I have called and been lied to and told my refund has been issued, I finally had to cancel my debit card to stop any additional charges. And, there was supposed to be free installation, but when the technician arrived, he informed us that there would be $102 installation charge.
