I have been a loyal Directv customer for five years ever since VOOM disappeared. Some two years ago directv started changing the coding scheme for HD signals to mpeg4 - something my receiver cannot understand. I have been paying $10.00 per month for HD but for over a year there have been no HD channels that I can watch. I try to remove the HD service online - no can do. Email directv customer service - they explain the problem but I'm still being charged. Finally I call them and after over 45 minutes on the phone I disconnect the entire service as my only option. I own this receiver, they said the only way they can remove the HD charge is if I send them my receiver (I bought and paid for) - go figure. They know it doesn't work, cannot play any of their HD channels but they cannot remove the charge. Talk about unethical.
Only offers they could come up with involved me having to make a two year committment for lease on a new receiver. Why on earth would I want to commit to this company for two years after such unethical treatment?
Disgusted - the consumer looses again, big business does as it pleases.
