Refund of Service
I had called to cancel my service on 7/30/2010 with DirecTv due to a move to a residence that did not offer satellite service. At the time I had a positive balance due which then increased due to refunds for unused services. I was told at the time that the balance could not be refunded to my card on file because I was not on Autopay and it had to be sent by check with a time frame of 6-8 weeks. A little long, but ok. It took over 3 weeks and multiple calls to send a box for my receiver which I was obligated to return, which was done on 8/31.

In mid-September I called to check on the status and was told that the 6-8 week time frame began after the last transaction (8/31). I understand the reasoning, but was never told this. I was promised that I would receive it in the first two weeks of October.

I called on 10/28/2010 as it was beyond the 8 week time frame and was told it takes 6-8 weeks. I advised that it is beyond that and that a check should be sent. The customer service rep said that it was escalated and it would take 8 business days (almost 2 more weeks) to process and then mailing timeframes.

At the rate this is going, if I ever do get a refund that I requested in July, it will be received sometime in late November which is completely unacceptable. I have no faith that I will ever receive a payment and am disappointed in the customer service I have received since disconnecting my service.

Billing Practices
I canceled my DirecTV account & returned their equipment due to unsatisfactory customer service.

Without my permission DirecTV debited my bank account for the balance due. I called DirecTV asking that they credit the monies back to my account, send me a bill and I would send them a money order. They refused!

I spoke to representatives at my bank on two separate occasions; two different representatives told me that DirecTV is notorious for this type of action/transaction.

I am contesting the charge with my bank and have filed a complaint with the FTC.

taking unauthorized money from bank account
We called to pay our past due balance to Rip Off TV (DirecTV)!!! We obtained our balance from the rep and then advised her we would call back once we gather our banking information. Well, she took it upon herself to take out over $800 from our bank account!!! We were FURIOUS to say the least. We immediately called once we realized what had happened and we were told it was a mistake and the rep shouldn't have done that and they will pay any NSF we get from our bank and blah blah blah... Then we call back and get another rep that was insanely rude that told us the rep did nothing wrong and they took the money out of our account because we hadn't paid our bill yet so they were charging us for the equipment. (Even though we still had active service with them) We argued with her and she finally put in a refund request and told us it would take no more than 10 business days to get our refund. Well, about 12 days later we called back and got another rude rep that told us "You were told it would take up to 2 weeks" . So, we waited and nothing happened. We called again and was told the refund request was put in and there's nothing they could do and we just needed to wait. In the meantime our refund is getting smaller due to new billing cycles rolling around. After back and forth with them for about 2 months I was finally told that every single time we've called a new refund request was being entered in so the process was starting all over again. BS!!! So, I finally filed a complaint with the BBB. We received a phone call within 4 days or so and we immediately received our refund. What was left of it. ($325.00) Because of the money they took out ILLEGALY we couldn't pay rent, bounced Netflix and bounced another check that was outstanding. As soon as our contract is up with them we are cancelling our service and then closing out the bank account so they do not do to us what they've done to some people on this site. They are a horrible company that performs illegal transactions against their customers and they need to be investigated and fined and/or shut down. We work too hard for our money for these money hungry con artists to steal it from us!!!

Harassment over invalid charges
On 4/29/2010 I cancelled my Directv service because I had ordered a sports package which was to include a Chicago cable channel. However when the games I wished to watch were played they were blacked out. About 3 hours later that day someone from Directv called and promised to give me a credit in the amount of 180 dollars as well as a premium movie channel for 3 months. So I agreed to rescind my cancellation order.These promises were reneged on totally and on June 30 my services were terminated with no warning and when I requested the boxes to return the equipment, I was refused because I had an outstanding balance. I then returned the equipment in my own boxes insured each for 250 dollars for which I have receipts at a cost in excess of 50 dollars. DirecTv has continued to harass me and has now sent my bill for collection to which they have added an early termination fee of 65 dollars when my contract ended in January of2010.

installer
The Installer came out today and installed the DirecTV. Which where a panel on the outside of the camper is now sticking out and was not like that before he got here and did what ever he did to it. I asked him what happened to the side of the camper.
He said that he did not do anything which is not right because it was not their before he started installing the DirecTV.
You really need to do something abo;ut the company down here in springfield, Il. this is something that you really need to take care because wtheir was nothing wrong with the out side of the camper untill he got here and started messing with things. your company has not been very corporatetive with any of the problems I have had to put up with. I really do not want to have to go and talk to a attorney about the camper.

credit refund
Directv will not refund a credit of $21.13. They claim the amount has to be $100 or more for them to refund and they outright refuse to send it back to me.
For 4 years now, I’ve been suspending my Directv account in the fall and then putting the service back on in the spring of the following year. I do believe I’ve had a credit in the past, but allowed the amount to carry forward till the service was back on. This year is different, since I’m watching every penny and I called and asked for a refund of the credit, but they refused.
I believe this is fraud. This is my credit, my money and I should have it, not them. It shouldn’t matter that the amount is $20 or $100. In this economic climate, I need my money now. What if I can’t re-start the service in the spring? Do they get to keep my money forever? Why aren’t they refunding these monies? How much do they end up with when people forget to follow-up? Do I have to send them $80 to get my refund?
Sure, they’ll say they’re losing money due to the same economic climate, but they get to take business losses, we don’t.
I wish for consumers to be smart consumers and not allow companies to wield their monopoly status against us. This is not over.

Doesn't seem fair
DirecTV and Best Buy have not issued my giftcard rebate although I fulfilled all the conditions of the promotion.

After listening to the DirecTV representative's pitch at Best Buy, I signed up for DirecTV. I had just moved to the area and had already signed up to have Time Warner cable come out the following week. But due to DirecTV's promotions, I decided to cancel the Time Warner install and go with DirecTV instead...BIG MISTAKE!!!

So what were the great deals that made me make the change from Time Warner to Best Buy? A $50 Best Buy giftcard upon installation and a $300 Best Buy giftcard once I received my first DirecTV bill AND I purchased a $499 or higher priced LCD TV. (I picked up a $749 Sony 40" LCD that I didn't really need, but figured I was getting for half price once I figured in the 2 giftcards.)

I received the $50 Best Buy giftcard in less than 3 weeks. Yet over 3 months later, I haven't received the $300 Best Buy giftcard. I've spent 6 hours on the phone, an hour at Best Buy, and 2 hours resubmitting my paperwork to a "special" consumer complaints department at Best Buy because DirecTV has no history of the $300 promotion (yet DirecTV sent me a postcard denying my claim with the correct promotion number saying the TV wasn't purchased at Best Buy, but from Smart Circle...the local satellite company that Best Buy and DirecTV uses to provide the satellite receivers and install the satellite dishes). DirecTV phone reps were not helpful...no one could speak English well enough to understand the situation. Thankfully, Best Buy consumer complaints listened to my "plight" and began working with a special department at DirecTV. Via email, the Best Buy consumer complaints department "congratulated" me on 31 Aug 2010 saying it was an error and that I would receive my giftcard within 14 - 21 days. 6 weeks later, I'm still waiting for the giftcard.

I have no recourse except to keep emailing the rep at Best Buy's special complaints department. 2 emails and 1 phone message have not been returned this past week.

My question is...how many people are patient and persistence enough to fight these corporations for what is rightfully theirs? They want to keep me running in circles between the two companies until I give up. Does anyone else see anything morally and ethically wrong with this situation? The time and gas I've spent trying to correct this injustice is worth more than the $300 giftcard I was supposed to receive free and clear. Doesn't seem fair.

Took money out of my account
Cancelled out Directv on July 18th 2010 as our home was foreclosed on. Told we would only have to pay a $37.00 fee and early cancellation fee would be waived. First big lie. Directv continued to bill after July 18th but forgot to send me the "bill”. I returned both boxes and remotes in perfect condition. Have pictures and tracking info. On October 13, 2010 they decided to help themselves to $300.00 out of my account- as I was at the vet having to but my cat to sleep. You can imagine how much more distraught I became as the girls in the office came to tell me my card was declined because of this disgusting company. I am not even on the contract - just pay the bill on occasion out of my account. I now have received 2 bills on 10-14-2010 $172.10 and $137.68 due 10/29/2010.No explanation - nothing. I have a website that received more than 1 million hits a month and have decided I feel the need to mount a consumer revolt against this company. I know it only takes 5 people for a class action suit. Ok "Undercover Boss" see how the consumer really feels about your company - good job - show this on TV. You get nowhere on the phone - totally useless. They just tell you sorry no refund. Why do we allow companies like this to do business as they hurt so many people? Even their own employees don't stick around long.

unauthorized charges
i called to cancel my nfl package back in july because i could not afford it, the customer service rep said he could discount it to 1/2 price $35 per month, i said i still could not afford it. he then said ihe could cut the price down to $20 per month and i said ok. the first bill i received was correct an additional $20 for the nfl package, the next bill i received was for an additional $70. i called they said too bad you must pay or they deduct from card on file, which they did even with no authorization. beware they will tell you everything you want to hear just to rope you in and then charge you what ever they want!!!
