High pressure sales
I was pretty put off my the high pressure sales tactics the call center guy--who was supposedly just there to answer procedural/pricing questions--used to get me to buy a bunch of stuff I didn't need.

Gotta be careful with these guys.

Telephone Harrasment
For the last two weeks, I have been getting nothing but calls from Directv asking me to sign up for their promotions. Everytime I have told them that I am not interested and to take me off their phone call list. They continue to call and the last guy said that as long as their is a promotion at DirecTV, they will keep calling. I have sent them letters with no response. They keep waking up my six month old and it is getting very very annoying. I am already a customer, leave me alone!!!

Service and product
I had a receiver die and had to have it replaced, they charged me the $19.95 for that which I was not too happy about since I was under the impression that the receivers belonged to them and that they should then fix them. I eventually agreed to a DVR upgrade because it cost the same, they sent out a contracted technician who didn't seem to know what he was doing, then he tried to charge me $50 for the second cable line. I had to speak to customer service and his company before I got that straightened out. Now I've had this DVR for nearly two months and the sound on it is awful! I've gone back and forth with Directv about it and threatened to leave them. They want to charge me an early termination fee because the DVR came with a 2 year renewal of my membership. I wouldn't have an issue if they would just fix the volume, I can barely hear the tv anymore, it's ridiculous! I have been with them since 2004 and this is the way they treat customers, no answer for the problem, no pledge to fix it, no sending a tech to see about the problem, nothing! This company is terrible and I would tell anyone, especially my friends, to go with someone else!

shoddy service - rude customer service
I am fighting the same complaint with Directv and shoddy "professional installation". They tore a huge hole in my wall and left a large crack running across the wall from the crack. Customer Service sucks.
Sent complaint to corporate office.

Forbes lists these individuals as CEOs and senior executives at Directv - Maybe is their inbox gets flooded with consumer complaints something will be done.

Special Offers
Do not be sucked in by dirctv 'Special' offers, they will cost you in the long run! $29.99 turnS into $63.99 after 3 months, when the promotion is for a year. Call to verify your rate monthly, after 90 days there is nothing they can do to honor the 'special'!

Cancellation charges
Don't ever get DIRECTV! They rip you off. I was a long time good customer who faithfully paid my bills. I stuck with their service that I felt was superior to cable except when it rained! I did not like their requirement (which I was told changed when I switched) to pay $200. for a leased DVR. Then I terminated service after many years and switched to UVERSE. I was required to pack up my three receivers and accessories in their own provided boxes and mail them back. I did this timely and according to direction. I tracked the return shipments with their return tracking numbers. They were delivered on July 2, 2010. On July 18, 2010, I received an email stating that I had an outstanding bill which was incorrect because all current charges had been paid. I called to find out that I was being billed for unreturned equipment. I provided tracking numbers and was assured that no charges would be made to my credit card which I was required to provide. I was also told that the bill would be rectified on the next business day. I later received a paper billing for the erroneous balance which I was told that I would receive, but I was waiting for the reversal of the bill which I was assured I would also receive. Yesterday, when I was away from home, I received an auto-generated call which instructed me to call about my account. I did so today, August 2, 2010 and found that my credit card had been charged without my authorization for the erroneous account balance. After over two hours on the phone with the customer service call center and supervisors, I was told I could not be connected to anyone in account billing who had the authority to reverse my charge immediately. I now must wait for a correction that will be made supposedly "within 72 hours." This is bullshit. No reputable company should treat customers this way. I had specifically called and was assured this would be resolved but no one corrected the error. Don't ever trust these bastards. They will rip you off.

I am now out to totally discredit DIRECTV, expose them for the thieves that they are, and make sure that the public is aware of how they operate!

Prepaid package not arrived
Directv Service went out 10 times in 6 weeks. Cancelled service, wass charged $440. for early cancellation. Directv sent prepaid return tags through USPS. Immediately sent boxes back with USPS says "Picked up and processed by agent". Directv did not get their satellite boxes back and charged an additional $660. for boxes not returned. What is my next step. Directv says they will not accept anything less than the boxes in their possession. I wish that Directv never existed.

2 year commitment requires no signature
WARNING ABOUT MANDITORY TWO YEAR COMMITMENT.
You are under a 2, year commitment with DirecTv for any changes of service no matter weather you sign a new contract or not. The installers will deny this and will not ask for your signature, but the company still holds you to a 2 year committment from the time that a change is made to your service. I was told that I would need a new receiver to receive local channels when they were introduced to our area. I was told that if my previous committment is up, then I would not be under a new commitment. I was told this by the installer, and his manager, Dustin Dunlap of the Missoula Montana office. When I cancelled my service because of loosing my job, that I now owe DirecTv $336.17. I wrote to the head office in Colorado about this situation, and they said that they considered this an accurate and fair charge. It use to be that a contract was required, but those days are over. When you have a large company, with layers, I guess you are entitled to what ever you would like.

Fraud
I decided to sign up for the $34.99/month package, and that's all. It offered free HD for life, DVR for only $7 a month, and I couldn't have been happier with what I was getting. But then I received a $110 bill in the mail. $65 for service, $10 for HD, $20 for DVR, and somehow I ended up with premium channels I didn't order. I called and they said they would fill out the rebate for me, and would have it fixed so that the bill would come out to the $45 that was expected for service, DVR, and taxes. I was satisfied with this news.

Well then updated bill came, and it was $105. The rebate could not take effect for eight weeks, ant since they filled the rebate for me over the phone it would be an extra $5 a month ($60 a year) for the service (amazing that they don't tell you this). The free HD was bogus and that "if I would have read the fine print" because I was only eligible for it if I signed up for auto bill pay when opening the account (all of a week beforehand), but I was no longer eligible. That's another $10/month ($120 a year). The DVR service would be more than expected, and I have to pay a $10 cancellation fee for the premium channels never ordered. What a scam. I loved DIRECTV at one point but that has definitely changed. I'm not being cheap either, I'm just a college student who can't afford to pay the extra $400 a year that I will be forced to pay. Thank you for scamming me DIRECTV!
