False and misleading advertising
This company does not fully explain that you will be charged $10 a month for HD programs plus you'll be paying $5 a month for every TV sat receiver without any option to buy the receiver. Its false and misleading advertising.

Do not go through this company
The customer service is ok but if you get satellite through this company and for some unfortunate reason (you move and the next apartment won't let you have satellite) direct tv will charge you for the disconnection. I don't mean a small price either. I won't go through this company again.

Why did DirecTV URINATE on my floor?
Why does DirecTV have an "F" rating with the BBB? Go to BBB.org and search DirecTV of El Segundo, CA and you can see the failure report for DirecTV for yourself! Why is DirecTV rated at the absolute lowest possible rating, an "F"? I will tell give you a few examples of why!
First off, the account is in my commonlaw wife's name. My phone number was associated with the acount, since I pay the bills. So, her name is on the account, but my checks paty the bills. We called to re-activate our account after a move. We were supposed to get free installation... you know, the 5-star blue-carpet service you see in the ads? Yeah. Let me tell you about that service. The installer came. He told me I would have to pay him to install the dish. I think it was around $50... plus the cost of a bag of cement, which I also have to provide. While I was driving down to the hardware store to get the cement... the DirecTV installer entered my home (without permisssion) and used my restroom. I found the toilet seat up, and urine all over the toilet and floor. Nice. THIS is an example of DirecTV's 5-star service you can expect. Your free installation costs you cash (yes, cash; they would not take a check), and you get your toilet and floor pissed on.
On the first billing cycle, I found that my check had not cleared... and it appeared I was overdrawn! It took a call to my bank to clear it up. According to my bank, DirecTV does not take checks. Instead, they convert your check to an EFT (electronic funds transfer), and basically take the money directly from your account. As a result, your check never clears. I have over a years worth of checks floating around that have never cleared. According to my bank, they have to explain this to many DirecTV customers. I tried to deal with DirecTV right away on this issue... and they refused to simply cash my checks. They refused. As a result, I never know when or if they have received payment... not unless I want to sit on the phone, scrolling through transaction after transaction, to see if they have LIFTED the money out of my account. With checks, I can simply search by the check number and viola! I can find out if it cleared. But alas... DirecTV doesn't cash checks.
So, here we are a year later... and DirecTV is telling me they didn't receive payment. I called my bank. Of course, I couldn't track anything since they do not cash checks. I put a stop payment on the check, but that did me no good, since they do not cash checks. My bank told me that I could "opt out" of this electronic process by issuing the demand to DirecTV. Thios would force them to process the checks, and I would now be able to track the checks I have issued. Great! So, I called DirecTV and they lied to me. They told me that I cannot opt out. They refused to opt me out. I placed MANY calls to DirecTV, trying to get to their management. All that achieved was getting my number automatically forwarded to their customer service line. They keep irate customers away from DirecTV decision makers. According to my bank, they cannot deny my demand to opt out. Yet, they have done so.
DirecTV reps lie. This was not the first time they have lied to me. The first time was shortly after we activated the account, when I started getting hang-up calls to my cell phone. I traced the phone number and it traced to DirecTV telemarketers. I called up DirecTV to demand that they stop these daily hang-up calls to my cell. They denied that they had given my number to a telemarketing service. The calls continued. I kept calling DirecTV back to complain and demand it stop. At times, some DirecTV reps admitted that they did put me on a telemarketer list. I was told it would take 2 days to get me off the list. Two days later, the calls continued. I called back to DirecTV. They would again deny it all. The calls continued. Then I was told it would take 2 months to get me off the list. At this point, I told them that if the calls continued... I would disconnect the box, urinate on it, and send it back to DirecTV along with a termination notice. Only then did the calls stop. It took a month or so to get it to stop. THIS, good people, is why DirecTV has an "F" rating with the BBB.
After I filed a BBB complaint... I got a call directly from DirecTV. I called back and left a message telling them to F@$& themselves, and go through the BBB process. I told them to not contact me directly any further. I just received final word on my BBB complaint. Because my name doesn't appear on the account... they have refused to deal with it. So... for a year or so, they have communicated with me about this account... apparently violating the privacy of the account holder. They have taken my checks... and have yanked money from my account... but they cannot deal with a BBB complaint?
THAT is why DirecTV has an "F" rating with the BBB.
Do yourself a big favor: for TV, look elsewhere. Dish has a "C" rating. Average. That beats the "F"-rated DirecTV any day of the week!
I am not the only one who has had issues with these clowns. DO a google on DirecTV complaints. Check the BBB rating. See for yourself. They have over 500 complaints filoed at ripoffreport. Check the pages of complaints here at complaintsboard. Check the report at directvcomplaintsdot org; a whole page put up by another citizen who got screwed. I can pretty much guarantee that if you sign up with them and have an issue... expect to be lied to. It happened to me. Multiple times. I had DirecTV customer service reps telling me that my checks had been processed and that they had cleared my bank... while my bank records clearly show not one check has cleared. What do you call that, but a lie?
Speaking of lies and crappy business practices... what happened next in my dispute with these cruds at DirecTV? Even though payment was tendered, and even though payment had always been tendered within one day of receiving a bill, I woke up and turned on the TV to watch the news. I found that our whole DVR had been disabled by DirecTV. They didn't just terminate service. They disabled the entire DVR, to the point where it would not power up. All those progtrams you haqve paid for and recorded? YOU CAN'T WATCH THEM ANYMORE! That's right! You pissed off the DirecTV God, and he reached into your home, and disabled the entire box, preventing you from watching programs you have already paid for. So... you whip out your credit card and pay the fascists, and magically, the power comes on! Are they truthful about what just transpired? NO! They lie to you, and claim there was a widespread outage that just happened to have coincided with your billing dispute, and which just happened to clear up moments after you pay the cruds. LIES, LIES, and MORE LIES. That is what DirecTV is all about! Don't believe me... read the hundreds, if not thousands, of reports from others who have been screwed by these cruds.
We should have seen it coming. When they pissed on our home during the installation... we should have realized that they would probably piss on us at a later date too. They did. When our contract expires, we will go to Dish.

Again, installation problems
Again, problems with DIRECTV. First I had problems with a stealthy $50 "Credit fee" associated with a Whole Home DVR upgrade. Yes, that was resolved equitably, but, they would not acknowledge they were wrong in charging the fee in the first place (admission means lawsuit...). I'm a pragmatist, someone else will need to sue them over it.
Now...when it comes time to do the install. Installer is 2 hours late, which is ok since I'm home from work that day (took a day off special). Finally does show up by 2 PM, but come to find out they claim the work order was screwed up and they can't do the install, my current set up was not compatible with their equipment. WTF????? A dispatcher says it can be fixed, but they couldn't do it today. I was assured DIRECTV would call me to reschedule, but that hasn't happened yet! So now I need to call them and arrange it again. I paid nearly $300 for the installation -- in advance.
I make $201 a day -- nearly half the ETF if you're interest in knowing. It's a tempting option to tell DIRECTV to pound sand.

I would have to pay $2.99 for each of the affiliates that I chose to carry
Ordered Direct TV last week. I was told by sales girl that even though my local stations were not available that I would get affiliates for ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and CW absolutely free. "Just tell the installer. He'll set you up with stations out of NY or LA." She also told me that I would be able to call in at the end of my first year and get them to renegotiate the terms as the program she was selling me would cost me more thru the second year. After thinking about it I called back a few days later and asked to speak to a supervisor. Guess what? I would have to pay $2.99 for EACH of the affiliates that I chose to carry and there would be no negotiating on the cost of my second years bill...I canceled the order! I only wish I'd found this website before I wasted 2 hrs of my time with them...

Be very careful with this company
I ordered a package with a special price for 12 months. After 2 months and 6 days I called to find out why they were charging the regular price, I was told I needed to fill a rebate. I went in the internet to fill out rebate and it says it expired within 60 days. I was never told I had to fill out a rebate or that it had an expiration date. Now I am stock paying the entire bill because the cancellation fee is $420.00. Be very carefull with this company. as soon as I am done with the contract I will go back to Cable.

They left multiple wires exposed and just thrown over the bushes on the side of my house
I signed a contract in june 2008 for the 29.99 a month fee. my 1st bill reflected a much higher charge - i was told by customer service it would be corrected on my next bill. my next bill was still not corrected ...called customer service again and was told it would be corrected by my next bill, again, still not corrected - i was not paying the full bill each time - only what i was supposed to be paying. after 2 more incorrect bills and more phome calls, my bill was never corrected to reflect the correct amount. my service were shut off because of the overages that i was not paying - when i called customer service for the last time i was told that it could be corrected but i would still have to pay for the overages because they said i "had the services and had to pay for what was given to me" i have been told since day one that the bills would be correct - they never were and now they are trying to charge me for services i never ordered. they also took over 300.00 out of my account for the payment - i have had them reversed. i would never recommend direct tv for anyone - not worth the time or the trouble - pay a little more for the better service, in the long run you will save money and get what you pay for. by the way, when they installed the cable in my home they left multiple wires exposed and just thrown over the bushes on the side of my house - horrible job.

They refused to hear me out and a rep actually hung up on me
I had direct tv service for nearly 5 years without a late payment or issue. I enjoyed the service for the most part...that is until i cancelled my service. I called, cancelled and was told to pay my bill in full online. I did this and soon recieved a call from a representative giving me an exit questionaire. then guess what! i received another bill...when i called about it they had no record of my cancellation and wouldnt budge or treat me with any curtosey that i had shown for years prior. even though my boxes were removed and other service had been activated at the same address already for the month i supposedly still had service. they refused to hear me out and a rep actually hung up on me!!! unbeleivable. what a goodbye slap in the face.
