Misinformation
I need to cut expenses, so I was considering terminating Directv in favor of a less expensive alternative. My first order of business was to call and ask Directv if I had any pending contractual obligations should I cancel. I was told, "No." On the strength of that I proceeded to make the change. When the switch was complete I called Directv to finalize disconnection. During THAT conversation I was informed that I WAS under obligation and early termination would cost $. I asked how this could be as I had so recently been told by another representative that I had no obligation. The answer was, " Sorry about that, but there's nothing that can be done. You owe the $."
I would not have made the switch had I been informed correctly at the outset.
I have called Directv again, spoke with another representative and have gotten no resolution. I will have to pay or ding my credit.
It's a crying shame when misinformation provided by their customer service costs me. It is additionally a shame that there is no avenue for resolving disputes such as mine as " no one has the authority to make changes in contract agreements". The buck at Directv seems to stop at the phone drone cubicles !
I have been a long time Directv customer, but I will NEVER use their service again and I will encourage others to NOT do business with them as well !

Unethical Practices
I moved from 9598 Cottonwood Dr, Howard City, MI 49329, in Nov 2009. I called DirecTV to transfer my account to the resident of the home, William J Fisher. I was told that both of us would need to be present to facilitate that request. On Feb 09, 2010...I called DirecTV as William Fisher was with me. He approved the transfer of the account into his name; I approved the removal of the account from my name. (This should have all been recorded by DirecTV as all conversations are now recorded.) This was completed by the agent that we spoke to at the time.
As of yesterday (05/10/2010)...I received a notice in the mail to pay a bill for DirecTV. (I haven't even had cable or satellite since 11/2009 because it is expensive.) As of 11/2009, William Fisher has been paying the bills for this service. I contacted DirecTV at 10:15pm on 05/10/2010. Initially I spoke to Tamika, a customer service rep. She told me that April 19, 2010, William Fisher called and transferred this account back to my name and opened "his own" account. This was without my consent or knowledge. She proceeded to tell me that because we were never married, this account should never have been authorized into his name.
Due to the inability of DirecTV’s representatives...I am now being penalized, having to pay a $140.00 bill, $60.00 disconnect fee, and $250.00 + taxes for high definition boxes. I spoke to a "supervisor" named Shawn. He refused to even acknowledge that his company had done anything wrong...1) by permitting William and I to transfer this account from myself to he and/or 2) for permitting William to transfer this account back into my name without my consent or knowledge.
So, 3 months after the approval of the transfer of the name on the DirecTV account, DirecTV decides that they have done something wrong. Without cause or notice, DirecTV permits William Fisher to transfer his account into my name, thereby causing me alarm and undue stress.
I have not resided at the address of 9598 Cottonwood Dr, Howard City, MI 49329 since 11/2009. This account was transferred correctly with a DirecTV rep on 02/09/2010 into William Fisher's name with both of our consents. The account was then transferred back into my mane on 04/19/2010 without my consent. DirecTV has really shady business ethics and practices.

They don't hire wisely or train correctly
I had to change my package because I could no longer afford the package I had. I was offered the select package by the customer service rep. That was supposed to have 150 channels and would cost, in total about $48 dollars and change, that was supposed to include tax and extra receiver. Since Sept. I was double billed for both the packages and my services were interrupted twice. My bill was coming out to about $138. I finally got someone to fix the problem but then they changed what I was originally told by the rep that had helped me the first time. Now my package only has 118 channels and my bill is coming out to almost $69. instead of the $48. I was told it would be. They don't hire wisely or train correctly.

They are deceitful and will take advantage of you
I was only a direct TV customer for two days. During those two days I was on the phone with numerous representatives working for Direct TV. When I first signed up for Direct TV I asked the representative for a cable and internet package. I told her that I did not want the service if internet was not included. She informed me that it was going to be included and signed me up for that package. After the technician came to my house and installed the cable on 12/2/09, I noticed he did not set up the internet. I called immediately that day and was on the phone for an hour asking why I did not receive internet. The last representative that I spoke to that day told me to call Verizon to get my internet set up. I called Verizon the next day and they told me that I did not have an account with them and that they could not help me. I then called back Direct TV and spoke with a rep. who told me that I would not be able to get internet because it was not offered in my area. Once I found this information out I cancelled immediately. I cancelled on 12/4/09 the reps name that helped me was Sarah (id# 435559) She informed me that I would not get charged the cancelation fee since I had only had the service for two days. I returned all the equipment as soon as I received the fed ex package I was to ship it in. I then found out I was charged 442.37 from direct tv... Once I was charged this amount I called Direct TV. And spoke to the manager id# 413692) She informed me that I was charged for the cancelation fee by accident. She then told me that she could not refund me unless I wrote the corporate office a letter regarding the issue even though this whole thing was not my fault!! She said once I wrote the letter that I would have to wait 6-8 weeks to get my refund. This has ruined my Christmas for my family and I am furious. Please do not sign up with this company! They are deceitful and will take advantage of you!

DirectTV has the worst customer service in the industry
DirectTV has the worst customer service in the industry. You get a different answer from each rep and because you need to call in so much ..you always get a different rep and NO ONE evidently puts notes on the account or they do not read them. I have asked on more than one occasion for a manager to call back..it has never happened. The reps come accross as miserable and mistreated people who hate their jobs...probably because they always are getting yelled at by angry and disgruntled customers. Voice your opinions!!

Cannot wait to put their junk equipment on the curb
I purchased the maintenance contract when I had an early problem and they wouldn't come out without an additional charge. I really did not want to, but they said it was the only way around that issue. I told them I was planning on re-roofing in the next year and they said that it was another good reason to buy it as they would come out an re-adjust the dish afterward if it needed it. That was a lie, obviously to get me past that current difficulty since I called them to adjust the dish and they want to charge a service call as it is not covered. I simply cannot wait until March to put their junk equipment on the curb and go back to Dish Network.

I feel I was misled by the representative on the phone
I joined Direct Tv back in 2005 due to being unhappy with my cable company. Just last month I cancelled my service from them because it simply costs too much. Last year my roommate wanted a DVR. I relectantly got her one. When I cancelled my service they told me that I had a contract. I have yet to see a copy of this contract that I signed. They state that all of this was available on their website. The thing was I never used their website to sign up for this additional service. The representative did not tell me a thing about any contract that has cancellation fees. I owed them $220 which I feel is very unfair since I never had a contract with the company to begin with. They will not refund it. I thought their service was good and did at one time recommend it to friends, but after this I cannot recommend them to anybody. I feel I was misled by the representative on the phone and sincerely regret the way I've been treated and for having to pay this fee during a time I cannot afford it!

The reps are rude and give false information
The reps are rude, and give false information.. I did find a rep Juan in texas who was very very helpful. I really want him recognized. After hours speaking to 5 reps in different states he was the only one who helped me. However my upgrade is due Monday. They came last week took a day off work waited and everything was confused by miscommunication between direct tv and their techs. They are the worst please think again before you want to get this service. HORRIBLE I will tell everyone. The only reason we have it is for the football package. My son Has learning dissabilities, and he smiles watching his games. That's the only reason..

Direct TV has lied, committed fraud from day one with us
Direct TV has lied, committed fraut from day one with us. We were told we could get local channels and no contract. After hook up we were told we had a 2 year contract and no local channels. We could get the major channels at $3.50 per month per channel. These channels are New York, and LA. WE live in Texas! And cannot get NBC. I called to drop the premium channels, the next month they were not dropped and we received a $36 charge. I called and they stated "the last call was dropped". It was not dropped! It will cost us $300.00 to get out of this contract. You call that Customer Service. I think not.
