Direct TV has quit showing our local channels, without any notice
Direct TV has quit showing our local channels, without any notice. I have been without this service for a month and a half. When I called Direct TV, to complain about not getting our local channels. I was told that they did not know what they were going to do, or when it would be fixed. I was then offered a 3 dollar credit on bill, that to me is an insult. Needless to say, when my contract expires...Goodbye Direct TV.

fraudulent charges
I am not surprised to have found the many many other unfair business practice complaints online, regarding DirecTV, including poor customer service, poor quality product services, billing disputes, and more. I have NEVER submitted or even researched complaining about something online, until today. I pride myself on being polite and respectful in order to get things resolved, which works almost all the time. Unless you are dealing with DirecTV.
My situation with DirecTV is unique, because I am not, and never have been a customer of theirs, however they recently charged $851.88 to my debit card. Apparently since I had at one point made a payment on behalf of a friend, 7-8 months ago, that person cancelled service, and DirecTV continued to bill him. Since his card on their files had expired, DirecTV elected to bill my card for the months of service that had long been cancelled, late fees, and cancellations fees.
I contacted DirecTV immediately, actually the charges were still pending. I monitor my bank account closely being on a very tight budget. I spent almost 2 hours, being put on hold, disconnected, transferred from one representative to the next and having to tell each person the scenario over again, being told they cant pull up my account information unless I have an account which I dont. Eventually I asked to speak with the highest supervisor there after again getting transferred by a representative to an out of service DirecTV number.
Finally, after additional attempts I made it to the claims department explaining that I wasnt a customer, and had been charged and believed it was not legal to keep my credit card on file, let alone charge it (which it is not). The claims person apologized profusely, acknowledging the mistake and said it would be submitted to claims immediately, which wont be processed for 8-12 business days... 8-12 Business days?! I explained my account is going to be overdrawn, that I am pregnant and very sick needing to make co-payments for upcoming dr. appts and get my medication. She said I am very sorry about your situation, there is nothing I can do. But once the claim is processed you can fax us your bank statements and submit another claim for the overdraft charges, I find this absurd. The claims person said there was nothing they could do to expedite the matter either and suggested that I contact my bank, which I did.
I spoke with my branch manager, he said the bank requires that I contact the party that charged my card to give them the opportunity to reverse the charges. I told him I had, and they wouldnt be doing so for 8-12 business days and I would be negative in my account if the bank didnt stop it while it was still pending. He said well if its pending they cant do anything anyways, and since DirecTV agreed to reverse the charges even though an undesirable amount of time, that the bank cannot do anything for 30 days. He even called legal, corporate, everyone he could to try and help me since I have a good relationship with my bank. Laws prevent the banks from doing anything once a claim has been filed for 30 days, that was a dead end. He suggested I contact an attorney because what they did is not legal. I spent about an hour in the bank, and another 30 minutes on the phone with the bank at home. Thats now 3.5 hours of my time.
I again contacted DirecTV, the customer service agents if thats what you want to call it... seemed as though they had been trained to read from a script, located in a foreign country. Each time you call their phone number, it takes 10-15 minutes going through the voice prompts and wait times. Again, I was disconnected time after time in the process of being transferred to the department that handles 'that'. Finally I got to an agent after asking for a supervisor who said she was not a supervisor, and she will not transfer me to one, because I am going to get the same answer no matter who I talk to. She stated that there is NO way to expedite the reversal of the charge fraudulent or not, because it is done electronically and their agents do not have the ability to over ride 'the system'. The agents were very snide, and had been trained to make no attempt to help, and to read a scripted 'it will take 8-12 business days'. That process was another 1.5 hours of my time, adding up to 5 hours of my time now.
I contacted DirecTV today, 1 week from the start of this (5th business day). I called to confirm the claim is being processed, how far along in the claim process it is, when I can expect it to be done, is it 8 or 12 business days? After explaining the situation to the representative, she said she if a claim was filed its in process and she doesnt have a way to pull it up and see how far out or when it will be done. I said okay, can you just pull it up to confirm its happening though? She said no, she would not because I already filed a claim and she doesnt have time to confirm something that is already being done. She is very sorry for my inconvenience, and to contact them if it hasnt gone through in 12 business days. That took me another 30 minutes, and 3 separate calls. 5.5 hours of my time so far.
I consulted an attorney who stated what they did is not legal, but the cost of litigating the matter would likely outweigh the winnings. Unless the course of their actions did result in affecting my pregnancy or compromising my babies health. Are you kidding me?
I dont even want money from DirecTV, I just want MY money back in my account today... I want a super aggressive attorney that wants to get rich suing the pants off DirecTV. Thats right DirecTV is so awful, that it would bring me vindication knowing that they had to pay a large sum of money fighting a legal battle and paying the attorney off. I just want justice. So, Mr. or Ms. attorney of my dreams, boy do I have the case for you!
If you are thinking about signing up for service with DirecTV - DONT! And if you are reading this because you are also fuming mad, contact me on this complaint forum... maybe I will have found my attorney by then and you can jump in on the action!

Avoid them like a plague
I am two years late in writing this letter but I will feel better just knowing that I finally got this off my chest. Around two years ago I was discussing with my neighbor how unhappy I was with Dish Network. He said that he had just switched to Direct TV and that if I switched I could give his name and account number as a reference and we would both get a $50.00 credit. I called the Direct TV number I found in an ad in the newspaper and spoke with a customer service rep. I told him what my neighbor had said about the $50.00 referral credit and he assured me that it would be taken care of. Throughout our conversation I asked him two or three times when he needed my neighbors information so we could get the credit. He kept saying that it would come up later in the transaction. When he finally got done taking all of my information he still had not asked for my neighbors name or account number. So I asked again and he told me that it looks like we did not qualify for the $50.00 credit as that screen never appeared on his computer while signing me up. "Sorry" he said. I should have cancelled right there but I didn't. I waited a few weeks and finally called Direct TV customer support and complained, the woman I spoke to took some information from me concerning what phone number I called when setting up my account then looked up my account on her computer. She came back on line and informed me that I had not used the proper number to be eligible for the $50.00 credit and that there was nothing she could do. "Sorry" she said. She could not tell me why the service rep who set up my account kept telling me that he would set up the credit only to tell me that I did not qualify or why he never told me that I needed to use another number if I wanted to qualify. I guess the only thing I can do now is go back to Dish Network as protest against the lies I got from Direct TV.

Unauthorized Charges
Signed up for DirecTV, then called to cancel after football season was over. They told me I could put my account on hold and restart starting the next football season for a better deal. I said I wasn't sure, they said they would call me before any restart to confirm, so I agree.
A year later, 5 charges of $130 on my credit card and no call to confirm the restart, and I didn't even know it was on as my box was disconnected.
Of course as you can guess from the all the other e-mails, DirecTV only cares about the bottom line, wouldn't give me a full refund even though they broke their promise and restarted service without my authorization.
Terrible business practices, they should be shut down.

Unauthorized Withdrawal
Authorized friend to use my card to re-activate his TV. I was reassured by customer service rep that this was a one time only charge. This was 11 months ago. April 17thi they took $238.24 out of my bank account, completely unauthorized. After speaking with 10 people, I still do not have my money back. I've had automatic payments bounce as a result. I've never had an account with this company and obviously never will. They keep telling me that they'll refund it and it will be back in my account within 4-5 days. Come and gone, no money yet. Then I have to get copies from my bank showing bank charges to try and recoup what was lost. No one there seems to know what they're doing.

The company was very unprofessional handling an ongoing problem
I was a Direct Tv customer for over six years and when i moved to a different area, the company was very unprofessional handling an ongoing problem regarding a supposedly unpaid balance on my account. I would never recommend Direct Tv to anybody again. The customer service is awful and not professional at all. After speaking to many different representatives on the phone and even supervisors, i was still being charged the same amount that was supposed to have been waived for being a long time customer. I tried to resolve this matter and i was always willing to pay any outstanding balance that i knew i owed them. Unfortunatelly, the last call i received was from a collection agency as if i had just ignore the matter all togetgher; i am beyond aggravated and annoyed with Direct Tv and for this reason, i will write as many reviews as possible to let people know how they will be treated if the ever had to cancell their account, no matter if they were great customers or not.

Billed me for NFL without mailing invoice
After having NFL the first year I enjoyed it. Next year they billed me for NFL without mailing invoice or giving me any heads up that I got it agiain. I had searched for it on my Guide button but I had no 700 channels showing no NFL, only when I called and complained that it was revealed that you press 702 on your remote, so I loss first months viewing, only because they did not notify me that they had changed to a secret way of viewing the NFL. Not only that when it was revealed I asked to speak to her supervisor she hung up on me. I do not like how they tap into your credit account and abuse and extract money out of your account without invoice. When I asked for invoice they said they had the wrong address.

Their equipment only warranted for 90 days, what a joke
Total rip off. From service to customer service to support to being nickled and dimed to death. Their equipment only warranted for 90 days, what a joke. After that it's "oh we can set you up on a twelve month service plan for an additional $5.99 per month so service calls are free", what a scam. Had direct TV installed eight months ago, first placement of reciever was wrong so I had to waste four hours of my day waiting for them to return and place reciever in a different spot. Every time it rains a little hard, or a little to cloudy, or a little to windy reception is bad, usually several times a month. It's costing me $320 for early dissconection fee, but to me, well worth it to get this toilet of a company out of my life. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, DO BUSINESS WITH A COMPANY THAT ASKS FOR YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER TO KEEP "ON FILE", you have no way out.

Their customer service sucks and they are dishonest
We were at Sams Club and was approached by DTV reps giving us this spill about a wonderful package that we couldn't resist. They advised us for the first 3 months it would be one price, and we would also have the NFL package, then for the next few months it would be another price then for the following 2 years it would be no more than 56.00 per month guaranteed. The following month when when got our bill, it was 88.00. We have called every month and gotten so many different answers that no one seems to know what they are talking about. One of their reps advise us that they don't offer the prices we were given. I told her we had a signed contract advising us of the prices..I HAVE NOT YET SEEN WHAT THEY PROMISED. WE DO NOT SUGGEST YOU GET THEM FOR A PROVIDER...THEY ARE CROOKS and do not honor contracts thru stores. Their customer service sucks, they are dishonest, we have issues with the unit when it storms.
