DirecTV Reviews

Contract
In April I bought a used TiVO DVR from Amazon to replace a regular DirecTV satellite box (DirectTV does not have TiVO DVR). I called DirecTV to let them know that I have TiVO DVR and that I want it to replace the standard satellite box. The talk me through the set up and I ask if they wanted the old satellite box back; they replied no. At no time did they tell me that my contract was extended for another 2-years.

When I received my April bill I was being charged for movies from the prior owner. I call DirecTV's customer service; that's when I found out they extended my contract. I told them that if they told me that up front I would have never activated the TiVO DVR - they were not co-operative at all.

I'm now stuck with a bill for movies I have not ordered and a 2-year contract. I've been a loyal customer with Direct TV since 2007. They have also lost a loyal customer...Can the Complaints Board Help me?

no service and being chargen for it
I have notified them since last year to fix the hook up. They send a service repair guy, it works if I'am lucky a week. I call again and I go through the ring around again. I don't know they don't just change the wire, they change everything else and charge me for a service that's not working. If there were a better service out here I would change in a heart beat. I wish the problem would be fixed once and for all!!!

Billing contracts
I have been a customer of DirecTV for many years and have an HD DVR and two additional receivers, and pay in excess of $80.00/month for services and equipment. The HD DVR quit last week, something that happens at least once a year. When the service rep said I needed a new receiver, this time he added that, in order to get the new receiver, I would have to agree to a new two-year service agreement. Since we expect to have to move somewhere in the next 3-6 months, I declined a new service agreement, and am returning the old HD DVR as well as the new one (which was not installed or activated). I am very angry and frustrated that DirecTV has so little regard for its long-time loyal customers that it would do this. As soon as we find out whether we really have to move or not, I will be switching to something else - cable if we move where it is available, and definitely DISH if we find out we can stay where we are. No doubt they will try something else underhanded when we tell them to come and get all their equipment.

TVs LOSE DIRECTV HD PRO IDIOM ENCRYPTON OFTEN
Seeking information; not yet a complaint. Our 100+ hotel TVs lose the DirecTV, Pro Idiom HD channel decoding key on a FREQUENT basis. (Simple: HIGH DEFINITION satellite channels lose picture, apparently because the signal to decode the Pro Idiom encrypted picture is lost from the system.) (Only HD, not SD) Temporary fix is to set bad TVs to specified channel & have decoding key resent by satellite signal--ok for a few days until decoding key lost again. Typical average is 2-8 per day REPORTED. I have heard other hotels may have a similar issue--if so, what are the details? OUR SETUP: New 32" LG, 1080P Flatscreen LCD TVs; New DirecTV equipment & installation. We have talked with the system installer, DirecTV & the TV manufacturer. No one has an answer & no one accepts responsibility. Efforts to diagnose & fix are ongoing. What have you tried; what has been said? Comments please.

Protection Plan forced on me
I am getting really tired of my DirecTV cable service. Besides that I'm paying $40/month for about 8 channels outside the regular broadcast channels (half of which suck anyway), they just recently stuck me with a Protection Plan for a minimum of 12 months. I made a service call and was told that because it was my first time, the fee would be waived. Now I go to look at the bill and yes they waived the fee, but they stuck me with a Protection Plan. I call and the lady says they have notes indicating that they informed me about the Protection Plan and even sent me an informational email (LIES!!!). She said they normally waive the service call fee by putting on a protection plan for at least 12 months.

The only reason I haven't cancelled the service is because of the kids channels that you can't really find on the regular local channels. And it feels like every month they raise the 2nd receiver fee. It was $4 until very recently, now it's $6.

I mean we're not talking about very much money here, but I just severely hate being bamboozled.

Thanks for listening.

technition installed product incorrect
I am filing a complaint because I recieved services at the above address on Tuesday, 4-19-2011.During the instalation process the technition blew our circuit breaker. We live in a duplex and our fuse box is in the basement of our neighbors side. He was not home so I could not flip the breaker, but the tech. just used an extension cord and plugged everything in across the room. Before he left I made sure to ask that when I flip the breaker is everything going to work properly? He reassured me that everything would be fine.
Our neighbor returned home Thursday, 4-21-2011. We went over and flipped the circuit breaker and I plugged in my t.v. As doon as the t.v. was plugged in I saw a big spark and I smelled burning wire.At the same time my second t.v. the recievers were connected to also shut down and smelled of burning wires. After this I tried turning the t.v.s back on and neither would work. The reciever to the main t.v. also stopped working and wouldnt turn back on. I have been resided here for over 3 years and have never blew a breker. I am in dismay that the tech. continued to install after blowing the breaker, not knowing if he would do it again with the next outlet.
Right away I was on the phone with Dierctv and that Friday they sent a supervisor to our residence(Zeke Garcia). He was in dismay as well to how the tech. kept going. Zeke took pictures and found the problem. The tech. hooked the satelite wrong. Zeke told us to email you and share our issue. We are out 2 high definition flat screen televisions. A 32 inch. Vizio & A37 inch Insignia, swivles left and right. We have no television. Please contact me. ZEKE GARCIA from dirctv has the photos. Thank you for your time.

Rebate
I signed up for direcTV service on a promational deal that is a two year contract. The first year at 29.95 per month and the second year at 69.95 or so a month. The problem i have is that in order to get that price you have to apply for a rebate from them online. So thats what I did or at least I thought I did. Now they are saying I did not apply for the rebate within 90 days and I don't get the promised promational rate I have to pay full price and I would have to pay 400.00 to cancel their service. They are the worst company I have ever delt with they just say we have no record of you appling for the rebate and now you have to pay full price and they wernt even interested in what I had to say about it. The reson I switched from Comcast was to try and save some money on my TV bill. But now itis going to cost more for less service and terrible customer service. Stay away from DirecTV!!!

scam
from day of installation of our directv it never worked properly.directv sent tech. to fix, worked for one day and went out again.canceled service after only three weeks-on the 1st of the next month directv took app. $600, 00 out of account, 63 years old and on a $638.00 fixed disability income. By doing this directv not only wiped out account but caused all checks for reg. bills to bounce, costing $35 per check. At no point that we are aware of, did we sign a contract, and even if we had, why can they charge for an entire year of service then take away said service? We have been violated no matter how you view it!!directv is wrong and should make this right-seeking legal advise on how to proceed...

being denied service for someone else account
i ordered directv and was approved for the best products. They ran my credit and charged me a processing fee of 21.84. i was setup to be connected in two days. the day of connection and was called and asked what relationship was i to a person that had a previous account with them and i told them and what did that have to do with me? Well because that person had also lived at the previous address i lived they were denying me service unless i pay her bill?? i could not believe that i was being held responsible for her account and then on top of that they refuse to refund my processing fee.. and i am worried that they may charge my bank account for her bill. is this legal??
