5.5 year overcharge + equipment fraud
After being a customer for 9 years, I called to tell them I was cancelling service. They told me that they would send me mailing labels so I could mail back their equipment. In the course of the conversation, I discovered that I had been billed for an extra receiver every month since we had been in this house (67 months). I did not know that there was no charge for the main reciever. The reciever in my son's room quit working in 2006 and we mailed it back to them at that time. The supervisor just told me that I have had 4 years in which to make sure they received the receiver back and since they have no record of receiving it back, I would now have to pay for the missing broken receiver, plus I would not be reimbursed for the overbilling since they assumed that we were still using the service from that receiver. He refused to give me his supervisor's name and phone number. Does anyone know who/where I can call to lodge a complaint?

unautorizhed charge
I was charged ($431) the 2 years contract on my credit card WITHOUT my authorization and I am trying for 6 months already to get my money back from DIRECTV and until now I have not received anything. Everytime I called DIRECTV because there is no office where you can go and talk to SOMEBODY, they just told me to wait for the check which never arrived.

DIRECTV FRAUD!
January 29, 2010
Fraud and added charges
DIRECTV has always been a crafty bait-and-switch group that hides behind "packages" to cover extra fees. I have had a basic package for years and through another ploy of theirs, pro-rated payment, I pay roughly $80 per month. I received a call from a rep offering FREE NFL Ticket and HBO/STARS (The have some fancy package name) and having been burned before, asked multiple times if I would be charged. I was told that if I cancel before the end of my Jan 22nd billing cycle, I would NOT be charged. I payed $80 on Jan. 7th for the timeframe of December 23rd - January 22nd. When I canceled my "free package" of HBO and NFL on Jan 6th, I was then charged a "partial" service fee for Jan 6-22nd for $40. They also attempted to charge cancellation fees of $10 which I did get waived.
After numerous calls to brain-dead CSR reps who use company rhetoric to say "You got this package free, but paid for this package offer" I am frustrated and have been directly lied too by the rep which is fraud. My $80 bill should have covered the month of January but they are saying I basically started new service when I canceled a FREE offer that I didn't even solicit. I have to now pay twice for the same January service. My regular $80 bill that covers month-to-month service and has been the same for 3 years, suddenly jumped to $140 for January BECAUSE I CANCELED FREE OFFERS FROM DIRECTV.
It's illegal, it's frustrating, and you can't do anything about it with the CSR 800 number.
I warn anyone offered free upgrades or packages as a "loyal" DIRECTV customer... it is fraud, they will lie to sign you up by canceling existing plans (even though they say they will not) and then to resume service means you will be paying 2x for the same service.

overcharged & misled
We called Directv just for a change from the provider we we're using. We ask how many boxes would be installed, would the DVR work for 2 rooms would one box work for 2 rooms and so forth as we didn't want boxes in all the rooms, they told us yes. We assumed the service would function the same as the other providers did and Directv would be cheaper. We ask if we could cancel if we weren't satisfied, they told us yes, as long it was within 30 days we wouldn't be charged anything. So the guy came to install it and right away I knew I wasn't going to be pleased. He brought in 4 boxes to be installed in 4 rooms. Said he needed to rewire everything, he did and it took him 7 hours to get everything done. We were completely dissatisfied. Nothing was the way we wanted and we DID NOT have the DVR that would do the things we wanted. We sent the equipment back. We received a bill for 450. We called them and they said, we have the equipment there's nothing to worry about you don't owe a thing. Today I looked at my bank account and they've pulled out $430, unauthorized. I called and they said it was because we ordered a DVR and canceled early. I told him we sent it back and we're told we didn't owe anything, he said it didn't matter they wouldn't put it back in. Then he ask me if I would like to come back to their company they would put it back in. We will dispute which I doubt will do any good. But I will never, ever go back or recommend them to anyone.

1 yr or 2 yr contract
My experience with DirecTV, well less than professional. i got slammed by a company called Fundish who filled us full of lies to switch from DishNetwork to DirecTV. the installer says 1 yr contract, Fundish says 1 yr contract, Dishnetwork never asked me to sign a contract in the 10 years i was with them. i called a number that i thought was dishnetwork and Fundish answered, said they were owned by the same people, its all good. after moving and job situation, i wanted to cancel DirecTV (over a year) and they wouldnt let me and billed me 240.00. early cancellation. i argued, asked to speak to the president or ceo, but they wouldnt let me. said the president couldnt help me. i hope someone reads this. i wish a multi year contract was illegal so they would all stop doing it, TV and cell phone, its ridiculous. to much can happen to a person in 2 years or 1 year for that matter. absolutely an unfair billing practice.

Installation/Cancelation
I called DirecTV on or about 11/17/2009 as we were currently a DirecTV customer and were going to be moving on 12/4/2009. After reviewing the website and it showing that the moving is "free and easy" and "3 months of great premium channels FREE", I was under the impression this would be a very quick, painless and free transfer to another home.
During my call, the representative informed me of a $19.99 fee for moving. I said that the website indicated "free" and he said that all transferring is free but that a service fee does apply. He then explained that I can get an additional DVR for free and also choose between the NFL package or the Starz/Showtime package and get that free for 3 months. I chose the Starz/Showtime package.
When the installer came to my house, he informed me that his "basic" installation would not work for our additional DVR. The one on our main floor would work but the one in our additional living room wouldn't. He said he could do an installation where the cable would come in from the opposite wall and that would be a charge of $50. Or, he could do a full nitty gritty installation where everything is setup perfectly and that would run up to $400. We chose the $50. The way he explained the installation was that the current cable TV outlet would be on one wall and the other cable outlet for the DVR service to work would be on the other wall. With us showing him the TV would be in a corner, we understood the cable outlets to be on each side of the walls of that corner.
After we were finished moving in that day, we started setting up our equipment. We couldn't review all of his installation at the time of his completion because of the moving and the large amount of stuff in the house that it was difficult to get around. We found the installation that he did was that he did leave the main TV cable outlet on the one wall behind the TV but the other cable outlet was way across the room. The main cable outlet is on the East wall and the one he installed is on the West wall - all the way across the living room and our office (in a corner). We then noticed that when he did his installation, he "took" the existing cable internet (Comcast) outlet so when Comcast came an hour later, they had to install a brand new cable and internet cable outlet since their cable outlet was now gone because DirecTV took it. The next day as we started washing clothes, we entered our laundry room only to find the electrical box the DirecTV guy had used (my husband had showed him where it was) was dangled from above our washer. It had been in the ceiling but he left it dangling in mid air.
We really weren't sure what to do at that point. We proceeded to call DirecTV to have the installer's supervisor come out to look at the job and determine what can be done to rectify the situation. They told us we'd be contacted that day. After nobody called us, we called back the next day. The rep said that nobody would have called same day so he apologized for that information. He sent out a request to their third party installation crew to call us as he didn't see any request ever being made. We waited about 48 hours and never received a call back. We called DirecTV again and were told they needed to contact this third party again and if they still don't respond, DirecTV doesn't pay them. I told them that we wanted out of the service but he said that I couldn't because we signed the contract. That is when I found out that the $19.99 I was told was a "service fee" was actually for the DVR. We received $100 off for being a "good/loyal customer" so that amount was for the DVR - not the service fee. If I had known that, I would never have gotten the additional DVR. I thought I would have to pay the $19.99 no matter what and get the DVR for free - not the other way around. The rep would not let us out of our contract as he wanted us to give DirecTV the chance to make things right. He told us the 2 year contract was for the price of the DVR as well. After 45 minutes on the phone with them, I was so upset that even if the installer called, I didn't want to have them come out. I really just wanted out of DirecTV.
After this, I had to go to Arizona to take care of my mother after total knee replacement surgery and then it was the holidays so we didn't have any time to take care of this very stressful issue of DirecTV. I contacted DirecTV on 1/26/10 to determine the exact amount to get out of their contract. It is $480!!! That is certainly not the price of the DVR. Nowhere I have been told what this 2 year contract amount would be if I want out of the deal and, furthermore, one rep told me it would the price of the DVR. I really thought that when I called in to find out the amount of getting out of the contract that it would be $100. I would live with that. But when I found out it was $480 - I was livid!!!
Also, their website says that you get the premium movie channels for free - that is not true. I called in around 11/17/2009 and didn't have the new premium movie channels until 12/4/2009 (move in date). However, I got charged for the partial month in November '09 for $12.00. I called in to DirecTV and they said that the $12 would be removed after the 3 month "free" period. So, they charged me $12 for services I didn't even have yet and they would take it off my bill until after our 3 month free is over. They said "it will automatically be removed."
All I want is to get out of DirecTV and don't feel I should have to pay the $480 when I tried to get out of the deal within a few days of the installation. I want to go to Comcast Cable TV as I don't have to worry about installation as we have TV outlets all throughout the house. The prior owners had Comcast cable and we are just done with DirecTV.

Programming changes
Let me start by saying I have had Directv for 14 years. Since the package I started with is no longer available, I was told I would be grandfathered in & not lose any of my channels. They recently took ESPN Classic off my package. When I called customer service I was told that I would have to upgrade to their sports package in order to get ECL back. I believe it would cost $13 more a month and include channels I have no desire to watch. After going through 3 different people, trying to explain to them I was told many, many years ago that my channel lineup would not change, I was basically told too bad, nothing they can do. I have had my issues with them in the past, bad equipment & information (being told I would receive a brand new TIVO to replace what turned out to be a defective one I had just purchased, only to receive a refurbished one), customer service people who don't know what they're talking about, etc. but have stuck with them because they are the only ones who have the NFL ticket & it looks like they'll have it until 2014. Basically they are trying to force me to pay for channels I don't want in order to get the one channel I do want.

Fraud
I let somebody else used my card to paid on their account and in return they gave me my cash money back in my hand for paiding their billed online. I did this because their sattelite services would be disconnected because it bill was due and they didn't have time to mail it their services would have been disconnected. Well, six months had pasted and Directv Services went into my account and tooked $433.73 for somebody else finally billed. I want everybody to know that I didn't give them authorization to paid somebody else billed. When I tried to talked to their representive they told me that they couldn't discussed somebody else account. Then I was told that I would have to take that person to court because they wasn't refunding my money back to me. They said because my card was on that person account that they can used it to paid for their customer account finally billed. They stoled my money out of my account which was around xmas holidays of 2009 and I am disable my children didn't have a good xmas because they tooked my funds.
