DirecTV Reviews

charges
I just wanted to let you know why I canceled my service today after 10+ years. I have had 4 receivers and maximum programing for a decade and I very unhappy with the service. Although I have been responsible for maintaining my own equipment and paying for service. I was unable to get all the programing that I have paid for because the channels did not work on obsolete receivers. Your company decided to eliminate programing for 2 of the receivers that I had but was still charged for that programing. I purchased 2 new receivers and paid full cost and did not lease them. Since one of the 'cards' failed after only 2 days I needed to replace it and they offered to waive the $20 fee for the new card. I do own these receivers and now I am being asked to return them to DirecTV with no compensation. I canceled the service before the cutoff and am willing to settle my balance but I am not willing to return equipment that I own and did not lease. I find that request untenable. I switched to cable over the holidays and find the service to be much more responsive and cost less than half that of DirecTV. I was also promised a credit of $20 a month for 6 months to make up for the loss of service while waited for the card to come in the mail. I did not get a credit but I was given is a change of service that added a DVR charge and my owned receivers became leased!

Where can I send to sue?

early cancellation/installation
As a part of the above bundled package, DIRECTv, allegedly, installed television service on Nov. 23, 2009. After 3 hours of trying, the installer could not hook up service properly or to my satisfaction. (see unsigned copy of work order) He gave me his personal phone number and asked me to call him if I experienced problems with what he had accomplished, or to finish the project according to my needs, but not to call DIRECTv right away. He did not avail himself to the completion of the install. As a result of the faulty install we had problems with the upstairs TVs that were linked together for operation. At times they found the signal, at other times they failed. On the 4th & 11th of Dec. we placed calls to Technical support and Installation Dept. to suggest they send a technician to examine the configuration of wires from the satellite dish to TVs, in effect a completion of the install. They could not schedule a tech until after the holidays, Dec 26th or 28th. When Charter Cable came to install phone service for our home on the 16th Dec the technician was less than impressed with how DIRECTv's man had effectively used a dedicated information cable for his Satellite TV hookup. Consequently, after our phone hookup the TV's were operating on interrupted signals and large in part failed to operate. When I contacted customer service the next day, Dec 17, to discuss the issue I was informed of there $480 early termination fee if I canceled service, and a subsequent conversation with technical support yielded another post holiday install/troubleshooting appointment. The telephone technician with DIRECTv was however able to support me with a self install that took approximately 45 min. to complete. I suggested that they have someone come and check my work that the present configuration of wires would operate properly. The technician told me that now that there was no current problem that she could not authorize that unless it were for a service call. A service call that they would not guarantee would be without charge. I called Charter immediately to restore my TV service with them, and on the 28th of Dec. they installed and I canceled with DIRECTv.
I have returned Verizons leased equipment and have made the necessary actions to return DIRECTvs leased equipment, in the condition that I received them.
As for DIRECTv since the installation of TV service was never effectively completed or a minimum standard of service was never given in numerous attempts, I feel I should owe nothing, but again would be willing to pay for 1/2 months service if you deem appropriate.
If any thing less were rectified in these cases, I hope you will inform me ASAP so that I can pursue legal claims. I have no intention of paying any more than stated above.

Terrible company
After assurance that I would have no balance when extending a suspension due to delayed construction, I have a balance. And their automated tele-marketing has been calling me 2-3 times per day with no recording on the other end... just blank.

After informing DirecTV that there are multiple problems, they've replied that there is a balance because I canceled my account (wrong) and it will take 2-3 weeks to make the phone calls stop. In my attempt to correct them, my email to them bounced back.

I'm looking for alternative providers and will simply go to the pub to watch Sunday Ticket.

Rip off
My complaint is against Directv. Last night at approximately 10:30 p.m. CST I ordered their NFL Sunday Ticket at the full price of $99. No where did it state that this cannot be cancelled once the season started. At 7:00 a.m. CST I called to cancel before I even had the opportunity to use the service. I was told I couldn't cancel the service. I believe this could constitute consumer fraud.

Service
I signed up for Directv and had it installed Dec. 24. Saturday they disconnected me because there was a family member who had an unpaid bill. I never even lived with this family member and they are penalizing me for his actions. For some reason his name shows up as a relative that lived with me. Now I either pay his past due balance or I stay disconnected. I paid $379 (needed a $300 deposit) and now I have no choice but to pay it or else I'm out that money.

Hell no! they can use these $500 for something more important like diapers and clothes for there 9 month old baby! so direct tv be prepared for whats coming to you!

Simply awful
I am p.o.'d by these banner ads. What I have found out by playing with the channels is that they are added or removed based on the channels you select to have in your favorites. For example if you put the channels that are directed at women (Oxygen, Lifetime) as two of your Favorite channels then you get an ad for the Jewelry channel (Home Shopping Network). If you take one of these channels out then the HSN ad gets removed. If I want to see ads I tune to a channel and watch or don't watch their commercials. I am not sure how they can legally place advertising in the channel guide. What I have been doing is telling DISH and COMCAST about this practice and they can use it against DirectV in their advertising wars. If enough people complain and switch to other carriers then they will listen. BTW this only happens on the HD receivers. We still have the SD receivers and they don't get these banner ads. If I wasn't so tied to the NFL Ticket I would have switched to DISH already.

deceiving and dishonest company
This company requires a 2-year contract, much like a cell phone contract and charges $20/month until the end of your agreement if this contract is cancelled early. This is supposedly disclosed in their service agreement, so check this carefully if you consider this company. I never received mine in the mail, but that is supposedly my fault as well according to DirecTV. When I signed up for this service with AT&T, I asked this question directly ("is there any kind of contractual agreement?") and was told that there is no such thing as a contract. That is why I went ahead and signed up for this package. I then needed to cancel, because we needed to move abroad for a job. I am now paying over $350 in early cancellation fees. They also charge extra for unreturned receivers. All this is OK, IF (and only if) these terms are disclosed to the customer CLEARLY and they were not disclosed to me, or to a number of other people I have asked. I hope that this is a fair warning to those who are considering signing up for DirecTV service, but if a company is deceptive to their customers - and this is obviously intended deception that works out well for this company - from the get go, I would not trust them in any way. I also spent hours on the phone and the internet asking for some kind of discount on this cancellation fee and was offered no such thing.

refuse to acknowledge my proof of payment
I paid a bill in March 2009, and directv refused first to acknowledge the proof of payment I sent, then told me it was really April I missed, then told me it was a matter of timing in how I paid every month and somehow still managed to miss a payment. They did not acknowledge any fax or communication I made, and I only saw the problem was still not resolved when the amount appeared on my next bill. When I telephoned, I was accused of not really sending things in, insultingly told I should just pay my bill, and warned bill collectors would soon be in charge of the debt. I called and politely insisted on talking to a supervisor, and after an hour on the phone of being polite to an infuriating woman who I sure was trying to get me to hang up, I finally got a hold of of a man who pretended to be a supervisor who, after checking with HIS supervisor, told me he was sending me information that would explain how I presumably owed the money. That was 3 weeks ago, and hasn't materialized. Today I realized I was being charge a late fee on the disputed amount every month, and opted to pay the money again rather that continue to feel so angry every month. I will cancel my subscription when my contract is up, and would sooner if I didn't know they would come after that money too. They owe me $36.96, plus $1.59 late fee for that last 8 months.

Bait and switch company
I canceled my DirecTV account 3 weeks into the service because I was lead to believe the cancellation fee was a flat fee of $20 at the time of sign up by the sales representative on the phone. When I got my bill, I realized this was not the case, tried to communicate to the company of the problem, was told too bad basically even tho there is no one you can talk to who can help you. I canceled because I felt the victim of bait and switch and they are still going after me for the money which is over $320. I now have health issues...
