How unprofessional
I can't believe the dissatifaction with this company "DIRECT TV". My TV looses the signal about every two to three times a week since the installation on 7/23/08 and they want to charge me to look at it. The system is about 16 mounths old and has never worked right. The coustomer service is just terrible! The had a rate increase after 12 months of service that they just passed along. Just found out that I am locked into an 18 month equipment contact which i will again be charged to come out of. I made a big mistake with this company and can wait to cancel at the end of the contract!
BE AFRAID!!! use another company!

No refund for faulty merchandise
We recently added a new HD receiver to our DirecTV service. We got it in the mail and hooked it up and everything was fine until we noticed that the receiver was not broadcasting in HD. We called customer service to troubleshoot the problem and that did not work. A few days later, we noticed that we had an $108 charge on our credit card bill for hardware from DirecTV. When we added our new receiver, there was nowhere that said we would be charged for it. We called customer service again and the woman we spoke with said we shouldn't have a hardware charge for that receiver, to call our credit card company and have it removed. The credit card company said we needed to call DirecTV back since it was them who issued the charge. We called DirecTV back and the supervisor we spoke with said they would be happy to take the receiver back and send us a recovery kit, but they wouldn't give us our money back. Uh, what? Who returns something and doesn't get money back for it? Not only were we not told that we would be charged for that receiver, but it didn't work! He said it was their policy not to give a refund for faulty hardware. Excuse me? Who has ever heard of a company not giving money back for faulty merchandise? How is that policy legal? Finally, we spoke with a different supervisor who said he would escalate the problem to their finance department. We are waiting to hear back from them before we return the receiver, but we have to wait 15 days for them to get back in touch with us. Ugh. This is so annoying! The only reason we have Directv is to have the NFL Sunday Ticket, if they don't give us our money back for the receiver, we'll be forced to cancel our service despite the fact that we'll be losing Sunday Ticket. Nuts! This isn't the first time we've heard of terrible customer service from this company!

Fraud, Fraud, and More Fraud
I had been a Directv customer for 6 years when I asked to be upgraded to a HD Receiver. They sent me a receiver. When I tried to connect the receiver a message popped up on the screen telling me to call customer service. When I did they informed me that I needed a new dish, so I scheduled an appointment
for a technician. The technician arrived and told me the new dish which was much larger didn't fit on my balcony in the city and didn't get "Line of Site", so I cancelled my account and returned the receiver. A month later I received a bill for $413.84. I called and they told me I broke the verbal (which is questionable legal practice anyway) contract because I didn't complete the 2 year service. I wrote them two letters and called them over 20 times, and every time they told me it was a valid charge. There were four or five representatives who told me that I shouldn't be charged, but they said they were powerless to do anything about it. One person who seemed to try very hard was a person by the name of David in "Retainment". His DirecTv employee number is #413235 (his manager is named Basil). HOW COULD IT BE A VALID CHARGE WHEN I WASN'T ABLE TO EVEN USE THE EQUIPMENT THEY PROVIDED ME AND BASED THE CONTRACT AROUND...
Now they have a collection agency calling me twice a day, and I am left helpless. I will probably get a bad mark on my personal credit report because I cannot in good conscience pay hard earned money to a company whose engaged in fraudulent practices.
UPDATE: NOW THEY HAVE POSTED TO MY CREDIT REPORT. I WILL NOW CONTACT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND SEND EMAILS TO LOCAL NEWSPAPER AND TV NEWS. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!

False representation
Had Direct TV installed 2 years ago and 2 weeks ago I informed them I was cancelling my service with them. They informed me I still had 1 year left according to there records.
It seems that a year ago my DVR died and I replaced it with one I purchased from Ebay and that caused my contract to be extended fot two more years.
No one told me this and when I contacted them 3 weeks ago before canceling the service they informed me that they would reset my contract to it's original date and there would be no cancelation charge.
THEY LIED.
After getting off the phone with Mechall 8972 I was told that I was lieing and no one ever reset my original date.
TRUST nothing what they say,
My advise is stay away drom these thieving liars and always get emails don't take there work.

Billing Practices
DirecTV has lied to me repeatedly. From day one when the telemarketer with DIRECTSTARTV called to offer me service to the last contact I had with this company nothing but lies. On the initial call I was promised local channels which I could not get with the present satellite company I had, so I signed a 2 year agreement. Well, guess what, after the initial installation, I called customer service because I could not access my local channels. Then and only then was I told I could not get local channels. I was promised HBO & Cinemax free for 3 months. It was cut off after 2 months & only restored for one more month after a lot of wrangling with them. Then after 2-1/2 years, I decided I had enough crap from this company disconnected my service & went back to the original company I had. I received not one but two statements from DirecTV showing a credit balance for $43.04 because I had overpaid them. When I received my refund check it was for 33.04!! This $10.00 dispute is yet to be resolved. I have written the BBB & DirecTV Headquarters. No response from the BBB yet. This company is a rip-off. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. THEY ARE CROOKS!! I would like to know where my $10 went.

lying during sign-up
My 90 year old parents had Directv for 21 days. I signed them up using my credit info. Directv lied to me and misrepresented their service to me so badly, that I would not believe it had I not heard it with my own ears. They lied about:
1. Their website and Dominic (customer rep) promised a free DVR. When it was NOT delivered I called about it 4 times and each person gave me a different story until the 4th person I spoke with finally told me that I did not request it during sign up so now must pay $179.00 with a $99.00 rebate.
2. Since my parents are 90 I drilled them about the contract terms and was lied to: " No contract. $20 max fee for canceling at any time"... actually they are trying to collect $20 for 24 months and I now have their personal credit company after me for $499.00.
3. The website and Dominic (customer rep) promised a rebate for a year from $55 to $35. However, The website rebate sign up page did not work. The phone calls made did not work
but, an email did work and after 14 days we received a card stating we had a rebate, but, the bill received still showed $55...so back to the phone.
This service was CX after 21 days because my 90 year old father could not operate the remote control and was unable to turn on the TV, Turn off the TV or to change the channel. Frankly I could not operate it either though my younger sister had no problem.
During that 21 days, I was on the phone trying to resolve the above issues a total of 8 hours. I was treated very rudely, was exhausted, frustrated and sick of dealing with obnoxious and unhelpful people.
If you deal with this company, record all your phone conversations.
I am off to hire a lawyer to deal with this mess...beware!!!

Programming
I had initially orderded a spanish program package since my husband is a huge soccer fan; however he had to start working two jobs and does not watch TV anymore. I received a flyer in my mail with packaging offers. They were great, offered free DVR at $39.99 month. I called and I was advised this is for new customers only. I asked the representative why did they send me the flyer to my home then. They obviously have my information on file and know that I am an existing customer. His response was that this is sent throughout the US to everyone. Since I was calling from work during my break I requested that my programming be downgraded to the next lower level. I called later that evening from home; I explained my situation and the rep went through some options; the first was around $24.99 but was very basic; the next one was around $55.00 a month; I told her I may just cancel the service. The rep sarcastically advised me that would have to pay a $400 dollar fee since I was under a contract for early termination. I was not aware I was under contract; I think like many other people I did not read the fine print. I was frustrated so I hung up. I received a response to an email I had sent requesting that the company do the right thing and work with me to keep me as a satisfied customer. I pointed out in the email that it costs more money to attract new customers than to keep your current customers happy. The email response gave me a pin # so I called thinking ok, it sounds like they will work with me. Of course not! The rep offered me choice extra at a reduced rate of $50.99 for six months; a ten dollar discount. I explained I just wanted the english equivilent to my spanish prgramming that I get fo r$44.99 month. Christian, then went into the terms and conditions that I agreed to and saying she understands that I feel disatisfied with the free install the gave me and the special offer they had initially given me. I had to interrupt her and ask why she was bringing this up when that is not what I was asking for!! We went round a few times, I never raised my voice and really tried to get her to understand. She did not so I hung up and here I am now. I will have to finish through my contract through June 2010 as Christian also advised me then guess what?? I will cancel and I will always have my little two cents to put in to anyone who will listen not to do bussiness with Directv; who by the way self proclaim their #1 customer service status. Directv, just do the right thing for the cusotmer instead of getting defensive and hiding behind the terms and conditions of the agreement.

Robbers and Theives
On Aug. 10, 2009 I contacted Directv to disconnect my service and send a
final bill. I notifed them through my online account emailing costumer service.
We had decided to go with a different service that provided more and better
services for less money.
I was wondering where the bill was and why it was taking so long when
I received a phone call giving a recorded message that my account was
past due. I thought to myself this can't be right my account was to be
disconnected. This was followed by an email that stated that on Oct 21,
2009 my account was disconnected because it was past due. My bill close
to $200. I could log onto my online account pay my bill and have my service
restored. I didn't want my service retored, I wanted it stopped.
I contacted Directv to find out that I can't disconnect my service online.
I can contact costumer service, tech support, change packages, order
movies and pay my bill. To disconnect service I was told that I had to call.
They did recieve the email that I had sent stating that my account was to
be canceled. They also checked the reciever and found that it had not
been used since Aug 10, 2009. The service rep. could not help me with
a billing problem. She instructed me to go to my online account and email
a dispute to billing. Another thing I can do online with email.
I also asked why they would let an account go so long that it became past
due before they contacted anyone. I was told that accounts in good standing
can take two months or more before they can become past due and be
disconnected. My reply was "So since my account has been in good
standing, I get screwed. Since I'm being bill for something I didn't want
or use." The service rep. told me, "I wouldn't exactly say it that way".
I was also told that, "canceling your account is a very serious matter,
what if it wasn't me, or it was a mistake, there would be reconnection fees."
She asked me since I had been with Directv for 10 years why I changed
service. I told them the reason. Better service, more tv's (went from 1 to 4)
and all for less money. I was asked if I had asked about additional service
from Directv. I said no. To add tv's, local channels or other services
would add to a bill which was already high.
I informed them I'd be happy to pay the bill in full once it was corrected.
However I would not email, I would write.
The same day I talked to Directv (Oct 21, 2009) I received a box from Fed Ex
to send back my DVR. Inside the box was insturctions on how to do this.
The paper from Directv clearly stated that I had seven (7) days to return the
DVR or I would be charged for it.
We boxed it up, contacted Fed Ex and the box was picked up.
On Oct. 27, 2007 Directv deducted almost $400 for the cost of the DVR from
my bank account. This was only the 6th day.
Again I contacted Directv, the service rep can't help me, again. I demanded
the money be refunded to my account in full. I was told that when the DVR is
returned (to someplace in CA) my bank account would be credited.
The money they took out of my account was done so without my knowledge
or consent I discovered that they had taken the money when I checked
my bank account, which I do several times a week. They simply took it.
Directv User Beware they will rip you off.
For me almost a $400 rip off simply because I decided not to have Directv
and use another service.
This is now going to the Office of the Attorny General for action.

unauthorized charge
Begining of Sept, we were moving. I called all the utilities to either cancel or move services. I called Directv to cancel due to I was able to get cable. Directv tried to get me to stay but I said no. They said I would have to return the equipment, including the DVR I bought! I asked how and they said they would send out Fedex boxes and I just had to return them. They also said they would mail the final bill to my new address.
Weds Oct 14th I finally recieved the boxes from Fedex at the new address. I mailed them out Monday Oct 19th. The paper in the boxes said I had 7 days so I still had time and I had to travel quite a bit to a drop off area. On Weds Oct 21 I decieded to balance the checkbook. When I logged into my account I found a unauthorized charge of $623.00 taken from my account by directv on Oct 16th and I already had 4 bounced checks along with it. I called the bank and they had me come in to fill out a ACH form, which I did! Then I called Directv. I talked with one operator who said I never cancelled my service and this gave them the right to do this. I said I most certainly did cancel my service, how else did you know how to send the boxes to the new address. After a bit of back and forth I was hung up on, accidently I am sure. The next day, I called directv again. I talked with one operator who pulled an additute with me, then I asked for a manager and it took 30 mins to transfer me to someone else. The next person said the $623.00 was due to the equipment non-return and I would get a full refund. I said I recieved the boxes in the evening on Oct 14th. I was charged on the 16th, how was that enought time to mail back the items. She then said it was more of an insurance thing for Directv so they knew they were getting it back. I said I want to talk to another manager, and she transfered me. That manager said that I was mis-informed about the "insurance" comment. That that was not true. I was then told what my estimated amount of refund would be. $365! I said wait what the heck why is there such a difference in the amount taken and what I would be refunded. They said it was Fees and service charges, and 2 months of service. I said NO I only owe one month of service I was waiting on the final bill to pay it. SHe said I owed for Sept also. I said I cancelled the service and she said "oh we have record of a phone conversation from you in Sept. You will have to talk with such and such department to get this straightened out, I can transfer you". I said yes transfer me. And then a few clicking sounds then the phone goes dead!
Here I am Oct 29th. No money and no refund, though directv recieved there equipment a week ago! The bank said the only thing they can do with the ACH form is give Directv 30 days to return the money because I returned the equipment.
What I dont understand is how the bank can tap them on there fingertips for this, and leave me in such a hardship at the moment. I thought when you had unauthorized charges you had a protection. I thought that something like this was criminal! You know if this was me taking it from there account its theft but directv its not??!!?? I wasnt even given time to return the equipment before the charge was taken! The letter in the boxes stated I had 7 days! They took it out in 2!!! I wasnt even given the chance to pay the final bill myself, they just took it and then some! I have a whole month of service they charged me for after I cancelled! They took there good time getting me the fedex boxes, but they sure can take the money without my approval out of my account before I can blink!
The BBB, FCC, and Attorney General for Pa were also notified. Yet to hear from them but still complaints made! I noticed over 34, 000 complaints against Directv on the BBB site. Amazing, thats alot of complaints!
Save yourself some troubles and go with another company, Directv is just backhanded and sneaky! I found out way to late!
