billing
Be warned. If you choose to install DirecTV, be prepared to keep hard copies of your bills and receipts for payment for at least 3 years.
I had service with DirecTV for years with no problems. However, when I disconnected my service, I paid my final bill. However, they have continued to sporadically sent bills for different amounts. They state that I missed payments before I disconnected--from 2 and 3 years ago. I did not miss those payments, if I had missed payments they would have been reflected in my current balance over the last 2 years.
I have paid my "final bill" three times. Since I don't have receipts from 2 and 3 years ago, I have no way to prove that I've already paid the bill.
The Fair Credit Act gives creditors a 3 year statute of limitations on collections, so be sure to save your bills and receipts. I have never had this problem with any other cable company. But, I will start saving my reciepts for more than a year and I will NEVER USE DIRECTV again.

New Equipment
I called up to process an order for 3 new hr24's the HD dvr's they worked with me and offered the receivers for $250. I call back 2 days later to process the order they said they can't do it i spoke with a supervisor and they were able to get me the receivers i wanted at $80 more at my cost. After ordering the receivers i get them delivered and not only they were not the hr24's i asked for but they were refurbished receivers. so i ordered new equipment at a price offered never got the offer previously presented and i now get refurbished receivers i went through 2 supervisors and 6 other reps. They all stated sorry that’s just the luck of the draw and we can't do anything further for your account you can always send the equipment back and kept quoting policy and never once was empathic.

Giraffe Scam
It started out with commercials about an obnoxiously rich man with an insultingly thick Russian accent. I daresay this has gone too far. Not only are the commercials objectifying to women, showing half naked models acting obediently enslaved, but dramatizing a foreign accent in a way that would be clearly insulting.
All sexism and discrimination aside, the real issue here is the website for the Russian petite lap giraffe farm. Seriously. http://www.petitelapgiraffe.com/index.php
Ignoring the purposefully destroyed English written to sound like broken Russian accents, the website advertises a farm for the miniature giraffes which the commercials feature. It has a supposedly live webcam to show the giraffes on the farm. All over the internet, there are countless accounts of those who have been fooled by the seemingly realistic website, but others who dug deeper found that the website is linked to DirecTV. The fraudulent site also features a history of the giraffes, some pictures, and a magic button to sign yourself on the waiting list of 800, 000+ to order a giraffe.
This would be a great advertising campaign if it weren't so deceiving. There are absolutely no disclaimers on the site. Not one. They even took the time to have a button to translate the page into Russian. And look! They have Facebook and Twitter involved now. As if the commercials weren't enough.
I searched the entire site cover to cover myself, and the only proof of it not being real is the little unholy Copyright mark in the bottom right hand corner of the page.
My point is to say that this was made too realistically. I, and many others, went a bit of time our lives thinking that there is actually a farm somewhere in Russia breeding tiny giraffes. This is an insult. I am very upset at DirecTV's campaign of sexism, ridicule, and fraud.

Stole Money from my Checking account
April 7th 2011- Directv Stole $469.96 from my checking account today. I woke up to a surprise. I did not authorize this. I was told that I did by signing my contract. Really what contract? They told me to read the contract.
We don't have one. We have not had one in over 4 years! Why don't you send me a copy of the contract I signed with you? No answer...Why because you don't have one. They told me the charges where for my late fee? Well, really you turned off my TV in January why are you charging me through March? Dead silence. I was on the phone from 8:30am till after 5pm this day. I talked until I was blue in the face. Repeated my story 11 times. To no avail. Asked for supervisor after supervisor no luck. They keep you away from those guys.
I told them to break it down for me. The charges were for the late fee and the equipment. Really, the equipment I bought at Best Buy in 2004? Why are you charging me for equipment that I bought and own. They said, because you have been leasing it. No, I have not, I bought it at best buy to avoid the lease charges. Well, when you upgraded the equipment you were leasing them. Really because that is not what your sales person told me. I was told that I had to upgrade to receive all of the satellite channels that my old equipment would not work. I was told there would be no contract and no lease just an upgrade to the equipment. Why was I lied to? Well, they said if you produce a receipt on that equipment then we will refund you the money. Really? Do you keep receipts from 6 years ago? Silence...
There really is no answer. I did not give them authorization to pull from my account in any way shape or form.
I did not sign up for automatic debit either-ever. I wrote the AG of Washington State for help.
They have got to be stopped... My bank did not help at all. They took there side...

Stealing my money
Directv just took the entire balence. Even after I asked them not too. I said that I had lost my job but I was willing to settle up my bill in payments. They didn't care and said that it wasn't their problem. So they just took the money. I almost lost the house I was renting because of them. I was with Directv for almost ten years! Customer loyalty means nothing to them.

falsely promotion
on 3.20.11 I called clear an internet provider and after completing the order I was then introduced to directv with an wonderful offer to get a bundle deal. Clear took $61.29 and Directv took $31.10 from my account. Directv stated they just needed a account on file. Once Directv technician came into my home which was on 3/29/11 after 7:30pm and before leaving I had to speak with another technician via telephone who needed a credit card number before allowing me to gain access to Directv claiming that he was not taking any funds from my account later to find out that $51.80 was removed the same day. Trying to call Directv to dispute the charges and to help me understand what I got myself into was like talking with walls. I was trying to explain my situtaion to no advil. However, I was inform by Directv supervisor that they have many retailer/agents that assist in providing services to their customers when ask for the number the person couldn't give it to me because, she claim she didn't have . I tried to get the number off my bank statement which was a fax machine. Directv have many retailer/agents misrepresenting their agency and railing in customers by any mean necessary and you can not drop the plan without paying twenty dollars a month for two years if you send back the boxes. I feel like I been violated on many levels through Directv and only have the boxes in my house for less then four complete days. This company is a scam and fraud the worst . I wish I would have read this site before getting struck with DTV and stayed with Cable Vision .

Bait, Switch, and Insult
I have been a DirecTV customer for over 20 years, but will not remain one for longer than I must. I am extremely angry with the company, the practices, and their "customer insult" people. They advertise that with an HD DVR and high-speed internet connection, the customer will have access to many movies and shows at NO ADDITONAL CHARGE. Their web site indicates this in no uncertain terms. So, I purchased the DVR and wireless adapter only to learn that it is NOT at no additional charge. I have learned that these movies and shows are, in fact, pay channels' on-demand services. (HBO on-demand, Starz on demand, etc.), and that unless I subscribe to those pay channels I cannot access the movies and shows. This IS an extra charge. I contacted their "customer insult" people and was told that it is "common sense" that these movies and shows are actually pay channels on-demand. I wonder how I've made it through my 54 years of life with no common sense?? Time-Warner, here I come!! My request to return for refund the hardware that I had purchased to access "Cinema" was denied. I would not recommend DirecTV to anyone.

Bogus service commitment
While speaking with AT&T U-Verse TV salesmen, they offered me a discount on my DirecTV service for being an AT&T Wireless customer. After being told that there was no service commitment, I accepted the offer. (Please note that it makes no sense for an AT&T U-Verse salesman to offer me a bundle with DirecTV that includes a service commitment, since the U-Verse salesman's goal is to replace my DirecTV service with his U-Verse service). Several weeks later, I received a letter from DirecTV stating that I had agreed to a 12 month service commitment by accepting this offer. I immediately contacted DirecTV, worked through three levels of call center management and was consistently informed that I had agreed to a 12 month service commitment and would incur a 240 dollar cancellation fee if I wanted to cancel my service.
Clearly the root of this problem was AT&T's salesman or his training. I will be contacting U-Verse tomorrow to attempt to have them correct this issue. But although AT&T started it, it is fully in DirecTV's power to correct: they simply need to remove the "commitment" from my account and waive the cancellation fee (I have not been billed since this started, so I haven't even saved any money with the discounted package). Their representatives stubbornly refused to even admit that they had that power, and demonstrated what I would consider the opposite of customer service with their continual stonewalling and lack of any desire to rectify the situation.

Please stop wasting our time responding to your PRODUCTS FOR SALE
Do you Complaints Board.com allow any retailers to advertise on your customer's bulletins? If so why? You do realize that every time those retailers advertise on the customer's bulletins that your website sends out messages to all those customers who had made a complaint on that bulletin and tells us to check this website for new complaints and then we end up seeing advertising about products we don't want to see or hear about which wastes our time. This has been happening to everybody on the DirecTV complains board three times in the last week! If this website continues to allow these advertisers to post their products without being deleted from the complaint boards then I will stop responding to any so-called new complaints on complaints Board.com! Please remove their advertisements from your website and block them from further access, if possible.

charges
I cancelled my account back in january of 2011 and I got a zero balance bill and just now in the middle of march I get bill for 39.48 when I called them they said that it was for movies order from ppv I told I never order such movies which mostly where porn and they said that when they scan the cards after I return the receivers this oders where still resgister on them they would not hear anything just that I had to pay I really tryed to explain if I had view this movies I would had paid for them but I never oder them nevertheless view them so there was no services render to me so why should I pay further more I explained to the super visor that I do all my oders thru the internet and that I had proof to that effect but all she did was kept on going on that I need to pay that why I am writting this so people out there know that they are nothing but a ripoff company
