customer service
I disconnected from DirecTv 1-12-2011 and - after an unnecessarily long termination phone call where the customer service rep quizzed me on why I left and would I return as a customer if they offered blah blah blah (non of which they offered while I was a loyal customer)- returned their receiver and access card on 1-22-2011 in the box they provided. Got 2 statements afterward showing no balance due. On 03-15-2011, they sent a bill of $4.23 for a PPV movie dated 01-28 (no year.) When I called to inquire, I was told it was rented/viewed 01-28-2007, more than 4 years earlier. Since their on-line statements only go back two years, I had no way to show that, either I already paid, or that (as I believe) the movie was a "free" rental they offered to promote the PPV service. No matter whether I paid for the rental or not, billing for services provided 50 months earlier is certainly not going to convince me to reconnect.

Unauthorized Billing of Credit Card
Woke up to find $234 dollars missing from my account this morning. Seems I paid a bill for a friend of mine a while back and Directv's policy is to save the credit card number of every payment made to them to use for future usage in case they ever need to collect a debt. Turns out this friend owes them quite a bit of money and hasn't paid them. Sucks for them right? No, sucks for ME! Because Directv decided that because they have my credit card information the debt is now MINE!
I'm sorry, but if you can't figure out WHO owed you WHAT, this is a simple case of... is the person whose name the account is under the damn card holder? No? Well then you can't charge the card!!! How hard is that to figure out? I called them up, was told to fax them my bank account statement showing the hit to my account and fax them over some stupid release form. P.S. it's now a week later and they still haven't reversed the charge.

Directv scammed me

Billing
I chose to switch from Directv to another cable provider...after I just switched this last month, Directv just sent me a bill saying that in 2005, (6 years ago) I had ordered a movie that didn't show up on the billing...they cannot provide proof and the supervisor "David" told me to suck it up that they don't have to provide any type of proof--to pay it or go to collections...He then hung up on me...when you call back, each rep will say the exact same thing to you...I am so upset that they can take advantage of comsumers this way and out of the blue, send a billing from 6 years ago stating that they forgot to bill you and cannot provide proof...Will NEVER do business with DIRECTV ever, ever again! I want consumers to know that they are doing this to people!

Billing
I was overbilled by $75.00 and my service was interrupted for a past due balance of $77.00. The overbilling was the result of my upgrading my service to the Premier Package and returning a non-DVR receiver I had in my bedroom. When I called to correct the matter I was told by AN AUTOMATED SYSTEM (a recording) that no one at Directv was willing to speak with me until I paid $233.00 (equal to the past due balance and the amount due for next month’s service).
After I paid the balance and Directv accepted my call I was told I wasn’t overbilled I was charged the correct amount but they were willing to offer me $30 off the Premier package for 6 months if I didn’t cancel. Imagine my surprise since that was the deal I was offered when I signed up for the package to begin with.
The remaining $45 dollars in dispute was because I had not returned my receiver. Well…regarding that…I had waited 2 weeks for the return box and had called 1 week prior to my cancellation to inform them I had yet to receive it. They went ahead and charged the non-return fee regardless of their mistake. The box had gone in the mail before cancellation but it still takes an additional week for that amount to be credited to the account (or so I’m told).
So…they do have good service but they hate the fact that they actually have to “Deal” with their customers. They just want the money and for you to “SHUT UP AND PAY ME”.
Also, apparently their Legal Dept has instructed them to never admit fault in any situation...or so it seems. They gave the discount I was promised but explained that I didn't qualify for the discount when I intially signed up for the service but now (27 days later) somehow I do. They never acknowleged the fact they forgot to send me a return box but they sent it when I called and have now credited the non-return fee.
DISCONNECTED FOR $77.00...less $30 for the discount I was promised...less $45 because they didn't send me a return box = $2. Frankly, I have no idea what that $2 is for and the way they write their bills (not unlike your cellphone company) not even a tax lawyer could figure it out.

Service
Directv was installed 2/28/11. The installer was clueless and said he has no idea how surround sound is connected. He tells me I have to use two controllers, one for turning off and on the tv and the second one for turning off and on the Directv box. At the same time I can't increase or decrease my volume on the Directv controller with out moving the toggle switch from Directv to AV2, change the volume then moving the switch back to Directv to change the channel. Three times in one day we turned off the TV and when we turned it back on there was no audio. We had to reboot the system to get the audio back. Everytime I called all I was told was "I am sorry" then either transfered to someone else or disconnected. Finally I got the name of the President, Michael White (303) 712-4600 located at POB 6550 Greenwood Village, CO 80155 (must be cramped in that POB). I didn't get to talk to Mr. White (of course) but did speak to Mike ID#U143. He was "very sorry" but would not let me out of our contract and for me to receive the services I requested in the first place I would need to pay an additional $200 for the two HD DVRs that I would need for the whole house package. I refused!!! He kept reminding me that these are discounted (origional $199 now $99) WELL THANK YOU but NO WAY!!!
There is so much more that is wrong with the service.
I am exausted and all my anger got me no where. I am stuck with crappy service and "I am sorry" mode til my contract is up.

Billing Errors
I had been with Directv for 10 years prior to moving to Cox Cable. During the 10 years I was never late on any payments and for which they expressed that I was a wonderful long term customer and they were sorry to see me go when I cancelled my service. Also, during this time I never had our phone line connected to the services so PPV services could not be ordered without directly contacting them via their on line ordering or via direct telephone conversation. I also had never in the entire 10 years ever ordered any pay per view services via their on line ordering or via phone. After I had cancelled my service I dutifully sent them back the 3 cards out of the receiver boxes. Upon receipt of my final bill I noticed 2 charges for PPV movies. I called them and they explained to me that it was for two movies from November 2002 and June of 2004 that was attempted to be accessed but they weren't viewed since there was no phone line attached to the receiver to be able to download the movie. They refused to remove the charges even though the transaction was never completed. Mind you that these charges are 7 years and 9 years past the date they were attempted to be accessed. All I have to say is beware to all Directv customers; when you turn in your receiver cards you may have PPV access attempts saved onto your receiver cards that they will bill you for. Thankfully mine was for only two PPV the charges for which they can choke on.

Auto payment change date
To get the special NFL package last fall I had to enroll in auto-pay. The past five statements I received had a due date of the 24th. In February I went on-line on the 16th and paid using a one-time payment option with a real credit card so my debit card would not be used. This was fine, no problem. My March statement showed no due date becuase they processed the auto-pay payment on the 10th, the same day they created my statement. After 3 phone calls, supervisor and manager request I learned that when I used the real credit card "on-time" they put it on-file as my auto-pay card. There was no due date because they said credit cards are charged in-advanced, debit cards processed 10 days before the next statement. How can this be right? How can they change the due date from one billing cycle to the next without any notice? I never authorized re-billing on the one-time card.
Dealing with the billing issues is one thing but the way I was treated was just a joke. I spoke with 2 CSRs, one supervisor and one manager. No-one was authorized to make any changes to my account and the manager directed me to their "investor" section of the webpage where I could file a complaint with the president of the company. She (the last manger) said if I still have a problem, contact my credit card company and dispute the charge. I am so sorry I signed up with them for two-years!
