Good luck getting your money back
I called back in September of 08 to move my Directv service. I was generally pleased with them (despite the DVR wouldn't record many times and that service went out every time it rained outside) and I was only a year into my two year contract. When I called to schedule a move, the sales lady asked me if I would like to sign up for NFL ticket. I said no and we then set up a time for a tech to come out to my new house. I hang up the phone only to discover, she shut off my HD service. No big deal, I called back, spent 45 minutes on the phone with another guy who turned it back on and gave me $50 credit for my trouble.
The tech comes to my new house to set up service, only to find I have too many trees and can not get a line of site. I ask if this will cause any problems with canceling my contract, he says no. I call to cancel my service and they tell me they are going to have to charge an early cancellation fee of $130. I tell her it because there was no line of site, not a problem I can fix. She tells me there are no tech notes indicating a line of site issue and that she can't help me, I'll have to file with billing dispute. Frustrated, I hang up and then call right back. I get another lady who finds the tech notes and says no problem. I will not get charged the fee.
I then get a bill charging me for the NFL ticket I did not order. I also get charged for the early cancellation fee and my $50 credit also gets taken off. After another three people and two hours go by, I finally get someone who takes off the NFL ticket and early cancellation fee and puts the $50 credit back on my account. I then get another showing the NFL ticket charge still on the account, no $50 credit put back on, but the early cancellation fee was removed. I called again to get the NFL ticket credited back and the issues get "escalated". I end up paying the $20 balance and saying forget it. I'm done fighting this.
In November and December I received a statement showing a credit of $146.59. I thought great, they’re paying me back for the $75 service I never ordered and balance of what was over paid on my account. In January I call to request a check sent to me to close out my account. Vera tells me, no problem the check will be sent. Two weeks later I received a statement with a credit adjustment made in the amount of $146.59. I call back to find out what happened. I was told, this was only showing that I would receive my payment and not to worry, the check was being processed. Two weeks later, I call to check on the status of my refund. I was told it was in the mail and she promised I would have it by the end of the week. Two weeks later, still no check. I call back. The guy told me it was credited to my credit card ending in 1028 with an expiration date of 3/12. I tell him I don't have a credit card that matches that number. He sends me to another lady and 45 minutes later she tells me that the credit was taken away from me because they mistakenly credited my account twice for the early cancellation fee. I never received any notification I received this credit twice. I asked her about the NFL ticket and $50 credit I was also suppose to receive and she stated I was credited those even though I was not. When I asked her why was continuously lied to, she had no response. I basically ended up telling her to keep the money because the six months I spent fighting for my money just wasn't worth it.
In summary, they will tell you one thing, you hang up and call back, you'll get another story. You might get a helpful person every now and then and you think, great someone with a brain is going to right the wrong. When the problem doesn't get fixed and you call back, and they never have record of your call. They will steal your money and laugh at you in the process.

Pre-Termination Fee
I was a DirecTV subscriber since September of 2007. In April of 2008 I had to move to another apartment. I called them and requested for my DTV to be suspended while I'm still looking for a place to stay. They allowed me to have it suspended for 3 months, from May-July 2008. I contacted DirecTV in July 2008 before my 3-month suspension ends and I asked them if I can still have my account suspended or terminated because I’m still looking for an apartment, and I was told that I can have it terminated but I need to pay $80+ and have my cable box returned. So I agreed and had the amount paid in full and returned my cable box. In February of 2009 I got a call from a collection company telling me that I have an unpaid bill with DTV which is the pre-termination fee. I was so surprised because I did not get any notice from DTV so I don't have any idea or whatsoever. I called DTV again and asked them about the charges. I told them that I wasn't informed that I need to pay for cancellation fee of $224 what the rep told me is just the $80+ that's why I had my account cancelled. So the rep advice me to dispute it to their collection department. So I did wrote them a letter and told them my story. Today I got a reply from them, they said that what they charged me is really accurate, and they asked me to pay..hold your breath...$69, 012, 497. Isn't that shocking???? I don't think they read the dispute letter that we are sending them. Because they didn't even touch the question I have with them. It's like an automated thing. I contacted DTV and spoke to their supervisor but she's even worse!! She advice me to dispute the $69M again. Isn't that crazy!!! I don't know what to do now...Please help.

Refund of money owed
December 2008 I ended my service with directv. Since that time I have been trying to collect $97.15. Each time I have called I was told they will send a request to the finance department and that it will take 6 weeeks to get paid. The 6 weeks expired and I called back and was told once again that they would send the request to the finance department for rapid payment and of course it will take 6 weeks. The second 6 weeks expired when I called back for the third time in March 2009 and was told they know about the 97.15 and that they could contact the fiance department and it would only take ten days this time. As of yet no refund has been received.

Awful customer service
We recieved a bill last May, after about 2 years of service, with an additional $109.00 worth of Pay-per-view charges. Mostly adult titles. We had all pay-per-view activities blocked as we had an Alzhiemers patient in the house sometimes. The odd thing was the movies being billed for were rented 14 months prior. They say the equipment was sitting around and somebody forgot the card in the box. Which was mailed back from an upgrade done after we moved. When we contacted them about this we were told basically that they don't make mistakes, and we needed to pay it now or we would be billed for the remainder of our contract and shut off. We asked for a dispute department, and after several phone calls of people telling me in several ways that they own me and I needed to pony up the dough or else, we finally got one, we sent 2 letters, and 1 fax, and several unreturned phone calls.
Now, we have no TV, and a big bill, that has apparently been sent to collections. Since it is in collections, DirecTV cannot touch it, but the collection agency would surely work with me on this dispute! RIGHT!!! Has anyone ever had a collection agency 'work' on anything for them? I would love to hear about it. Meanwhile, I was told if I paid off now, and paid a hefty deposit now, She would gladly start me with new service. I calmly suggested some contortionist activities for her. Any ideas? Solutions? Related issues?

Harassment
My mom has been a loyal customer of DirecTv for around 8 or more years. She tried to get her package upgraded with the DVR stuff, and she was told that it was only for new customers. She then asked how she could reduce her bill, and had to change her package options several times before giving up and taking the higher priced package.
She was contacted by Dish Network who came came out, installed a 2 room package with DVR for what DirecTv was charging her for just ONE room.
Now they have been calling and sending letters nearly twice a week trying to get her back. She's told them she has contract with Dish Network and at this time is unwilling to leave them.

Billing Fraud
I was wrongly charged three payments to DirecTV and after making a phone call to their inept customer service, I recieved one of two reimbursements. After more than two weeks of excuses, I was forced to file a charge dispute wtih my bank tot recover the second. ( I was overdrawn on my account do to the charges).
Know that this has been resolved, I recieved notice that I owe them 248.0o and was told I had until 3/10 to make a late payment of 104.00 or I would be disconnected. On 2/23 I had a balance of -6.46. Two days later the bill was late. Let me also mention that my service was disconnected on the 27th of Feb. What happened to the 10th of March. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and will contact an attorney.
Their reasoning for this is that they were unable to credit my account due to the dipsute claim.(??????????????) So I owe them know?

charges for 2 more monthes after cancelled
In July of '06, I joined Comcast and disconnected Directv, called them and said that I was now using Comcast and not hooked to them anymore and the lady at Directv said okay and would I like to keep my account in case I may want to re-hook in the future. I said yes, you can keep my info just in case.
I was a customer for 2 years so there wasn't any penalty charges to apply but they charged me 2 more monthes of service. I called them up and said I am not using your service but they would listen. They sent it to collection up to this month and now they have a lawyer after me.
I wouldn't re-sign with those bastards again if they were the only communication company in the world.

NFL 2009 monthly easy pay offer
We ordered 2009 Nfl Sunday ticket and signed up for easy pay monthly installments of 27.99 for 10 months. We were then offered a credit of $10.00 per month on our bill for the next 12 months. Great incentive, but we only received the credit for one month. I called to ask about this credit and they said that the offer had expired in January. I had just signed up in January and the rep said that this was a new offer. How in the world does a brand new offer expire the same month it started. I was told by a manager that the rep didn't read the offer well enough. That it really stated that it was up to a 12 month credit if you had signed up 11 months ago for this service you would receive 12 months of the $10 credit. Still confused that if this was a new offer how could I have signed up for it 11 months ago! That would have been at the end of 2007 NFL season...

Charge on Account
On January 22, 2009, Directv put a charge of $417.05 on my Sears Gold MasterCard without my authorization. I DO NOT appreciate this at all.
Since then, I have contacted them on several occasions about this charge and they have informed me that it will be taken off of my bill. However, it still exists on there.
I am sending a complaint to you about this happening. NO ONE other than ME should be able to charge my account especially without me knowing about it, or authorizing it.
I am disappointed that this charge was allowed through Sears without consulting me first.

Early Cancellation Fees
Oh, I am so glad I found this format to complain on. I feel so much better knowing that I am not alone in my hatred for DirecTV. DirecTV's early cancellation fees are completely and totally deceptive and unethical. They should be held accountable for the rape of the American consumer. Their resolution services are just as bad. I signed up for DirecTV through Verizon (who BTW is almost as bad as DirecTV), but I digress. I was told by Verizon that I would only be obligated to a year contract with DirecTV when I signed up with them. I never had any dealings directly with DirecTV until I asked to cancel my DVR service. When the installer originally came out to install, he did not have 2 standard receivers so he sold me on one DVR. Of course, he didn't inform me at that time that the DVR obligated me to a 2 year contract. I would have certainly refused if he had. His English most likely wouldn't have allowed him to explain much to me anyway, but I sure wish he had tried. It does say in the fine print that getting the DVR obligates me to the 2 year contract. Verizon was charging me for things I never agreed to or ordered in the first place and after the first month of service (I never even used the DVR in that month either) I called DirecTV to cancel the DVR service. I even asked them at that time if I needed to send back the reciever and of course I was told, "No, we will just turn off the service and the receiver will function as a regular receiver." Again, no mention of the 2 year obligation. When I went to change my service over to Verizon Fios after the year was up, I then found about about the 2 year committment and the early cancellation fee. I was livid and explained to them about the whole verizon, install, cancellation thing. They, of course, did not want to hear it. I have to pay a $234.60 early cancellation fee or face a ding on my credit or collections. I feel so duped and completely taken advantage of. I also feel like consumers have absolutely no recourse in this type of situation which is why DirecTV and others like them continue to use these deceptive practives. PLEASE DO NOT USE DIRECTV!!! It's the only way to get the message across.
