Fees for canceling service
I called to cancel my service to save us money and they are claiming that I am in a 2 year contract that I knew nothing about. We have been with them since 2003, but last summer we had one of our boxes go out, so we bought a protection plan and they sent us out a new box. I guess in doing that, they sent us a leased box, which we are paying a fee for every month now ($5), in addition to the protection plan fee($5), but we were also bound into a new 2 year contract. I was never told of this, never signed anything agreeing to this. In order to cancel they want to charge me over $400.

Customer Service
I actually really like my DirecTV service--have had few problems and if there are any they can readily be fixed. What I do have a problem with is their customer service reps who are clearly in Calcutta or something.
I'm not some xenophobe. I love foreigners...at my cocktails parties...NOT when I'm trying to explain a problem or issue in customer service. They respond like "Hindi Robots" as they are trained to repeating in monotone "yes, m'am, " "no, m'am." And it's infuriating on a human level but also on a socio-economic level. This country is in financial dire straits and DirecTV is so inhuman as to hire foreigners for cheap labor. I'm sickened by this. I am going to be shopping for a new satellite/cable provider.

Don't trust them!
Ordered HDTV 4 weeks ago, and was told they can't install till 6 weeks forward...HMMMM. Was told I am a valued customer and get free install and free upgrade for box! This week got bill for $524 and haven't even got hooked up yet. When I called, (not able to get live person for long time) the gal told me I still have to pay $100 for box upgrade but would be credited for the rest. I don't think so! Cancelled my order and seriously considering other options for TV service. How did TV get so damned expensive anyway? Just curious.

don't give what they offer
when i called to let directv know that i had a problem with my installation, in one room i had no signal/and he didn't set up the bedroom tv .they made me fell bad about my self that i was silly enough to fall for there lie's.they made me fell like i was a liar, that i was in the wrong .i was also told i would get a HD DVR WHEN I CALLED THEM ON IT ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD THE WRONG PLAN man if i get the chance to tell my story to someone who really care's

UNAUTHORIZED DRAFT
Two months ago I was laid off as well as my husband and we couldn't afford to pay the bill so when our service was interrupted my husband called and ekplained our situation and wanted to cancel our service but a representative explained to him that we could put our account on hold for six months and at that point we could decide what to do and pay whatever fees were due at that time. It sounded perfect. We figured by that time we will have found work and been on our feet again and if not, we could cancel it then. In the meantime we haven't had any kind of service from them...TWO months later however, $456.06 was drafted out of our account to pay them! we didn't get a letter or even a phone call whatsoever! I called and explained the situation and asked what happend to the 6 month hold. They said there is no such thing as that, they have no record of anyone telling us that, they have EVERY right to draft the money without letting us know and they CAN NOT give us a refund. I talked to a superviser...no help. I called three separate times explaining that this agreement is NOT in my paperwork from them and they told me to go online and find it and there was nothing more they could do! My bank account is negative 100 dollars now and I don't have enough money for groceries let alone rent and bills...do you think they care what happens to me, my husband and our two babies??? NO...they were sooo rude! they didn't even pretend to care. THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN...this is just insane! BBB NEEDS TO GET INVOLVED HERE...THIS IS JUST PLAIN RIDICULOUS!!!

refund of monies due
I am a disabled senior citizen living on a fixed income. After a year of bad service, bogus charges, etc I cancelled my DirecTV service. I notified them 2 weeks in advance. The boxes for returning the equipment arrived 2 weeks after the cancellation and were damaged. I called DirecTV and asked if they wanted their equipment returned in damaged boxes. They said no and would send out new boxes. I was out of town over the holidays and when I returned I found the boxes and returned them the same day. DirecTV received their equipment back on the 21st then on the 23rd they took the equipment charge out of my bank account without authorization. Now it's over a month later and still they haven't returned my money. I can not afford to wait any longer. I've called and talked with numerous people, each of whom has EXPEDITED the refund...NOT!!! I plan on filing a complaint with the BBB and notifying the local TV & Radio. This is ridiculous. They committed fraud when they charged me for equipment they already had in their possession and had already "logged" into their system. I will never do business with them again and I advise everyone else to steer clear too.

Leaves another holding the bag
I had to cancel DirecTV when I moved in October 2008 due to no line of site on my new property. I had a $140.75 account credit that as of January 6, 2009 I still have not recieved. After hours on hold and being transferred and disconnected I have decided to start posting everywhere to warn people of DirecTV and its rude CSR's and Supervisors who don't take their jobs seriously.
And it doesnt seem as if DirecTV takes serious the complaints against them. Filed with BBB and still no response.

not a complaint persay
Not a complaint really its just ive noticed alot of the threads on here could have been avoided by reading the work order!!! i actually had a customer ask me "do you read everything you sign?" ARE YOU SERIOUS! yes of course i do. now im n0t saying all dtv employees are great...infact most are just worried about time on the phone... but there are some who really do care about getting your prob resolved and trust me the calls are constantly monitored so if you were just flat up lied to then that rep was prob not there to much longer. i understand you have problems but don't take it out on the next rep you talk to its not their fault and they have no idea whats going on with your account just explain and let them try to help. and remember there is a button that can be pushed to give stuff free and every rep has credits you just have to know how to work it mainly...BE NICE!!! don't start screaming the second the phone is answered...just a thought

Thieves!
I do not have an account with direct TV, and they illegally withdrew 1300 dollars from my bank account... how can they do this... all my money is gone and Bank of America is taking their sweet time doing nothing on my behalf . To my understanding stealing money was against the law, but I guess if you are a big company these rules do not apply... what is a person to do? However I will spend every moment making sure action is taken to resolve this problem... I am seriously pissed off... Consumer warning: If Direct Tv and steal from me, it can happen to anyone

No customer service
I have experienced multiple issues with Directv. Let me list just a few of the problems I have experienced with this company.
This month (1/09) I called Directv to downgrade my service. I asked them to shut off one of my receivers upstairs. (The television broke upstairs). They told me they would send out a box and mailing information to send back the receiver. I am still waiting for this material. I will try calling them again to find out when I should be receiving this material.
In addition to this problem, I have experienced multiple issues with my receivers. The receiver I am wanting to send back completely reset itself several months back. It went back to the beginning when you are first installing directv. I tried on several different occasions to get through to them at their 'generic number'. I went through their automated system. Eventually, the system told me they were experiencing high call volumes and to call back later or go to their website. Then the system hung up on me. Finally, after writing the BBB and complaining they called me. The person on the other end was not helpful and had no idea why the issue occured. Her answer to the problem was that there was a new update that should fix the problems. This is just one example of poor customer service.
I have also had multiple problems with the HD Receiver. It has frozen up on several occasions. There have been multiple times where I had to turn the power off to the receiver to reset the receiver. This has been a huge waste of my time. In addition, I have had 'technicians' come out to our house on a couple of occasions. During one visit, the technician had to replace the small piece that hooks to the back of the receiver. Prior to him coming out none of my HD local channels would come in on the receiver. Not that it matters, but this occurred during football season.
If this wasn't enough I have had installation problems with directv too. When I first had the service installed the 'installer' asked me where I wanted him to install the Dish. I told him the roof of our house. He then told me that was a problem because he didn't have a latter that would reach.
He then offered to put the dish on a wooden stake in the yard. I explained to him that I was getting married the following week at our house and did not want the dish out in the yard during our wedding. He promised he would come back and install the dish on the house prior to my wedding. No one showed up.
I have never experienced so many problems with a company in my life. The worst part is directv in my opinion doesn't value its current customers.
