Sloppy service
This experience has been going on from August till September and i'm not sure that it is done. First thing read the entire contract, small print and ALL. I say this because when you cancel even after your contract is done, you will have authorized them to charge the final bill to any credit or debit card you have on file with them. When you call to cancel they will tell you that they will prorate you bill and send you a bill for the final amount. I never got a bill and wasnt given the opportunity to pay the bill myself with the card of my choice. They take it upon themselves to chose which card you have on file to pay their final bill. They talk out of both sides of their mouths.
About a month before I'd cancel one of my 3 receivers. The told me they would send a box within 3 days for the return of the receiver. That box didnt come until I told them that they never sent it on the day I canceled. They said they would then send boxes for that one and the other 2 that I had now canceled. The box for the 2 came no problem and sent them on to them. Day later a box came for the single one. The model and all info was wrong. Knowing that they will charge you if they claim they dont get the receiver. I called and they said they would send the proper labling info. 3 days later fedex brings a second box for a receiver when the appropriate lable would have done. I boxed the receiver up and before I could get it sent back by Fedex they sent another box and lable for the same receiver. I sent the receiver in the 2nd box. Month later they send me a bill for the receiver claiming they never got it. I know that Fedex picked up the box. After over an hour on the phone with a customer service rep whose computer continuously shut down. She finally found the receiver and sounded as if it were my fault because their were so many boxes sent for the receiver. Thats why they claim they couldnt find it at first. Pretty damned sloppy huh? Thats not the end. Today September 12 I got a collections bill for the receiver amount. Can you believe that afster the rep told me that they were going to escalate the finding of the box that they sent the bill to an outside collection agency. I cant believe that they didnt charge the card again which would have sent the account into the red and caused an additional fee. Directv is very sloppy in their account closing practices. I was told that this would not show up on the credit report. I am going to wait 30 days to see if they are lying about that. If so, I plan to see about filing suit against them for fraud or something. The programming is excellent but closing the account is Hell. READ THE ENTIRE CONTRACT AND MAKE NOTE OF ALL CORRESPONDENCE.

Unauthorized bank debit
I had been a Directv customer for 1 year and moved to a place that did not have Directv capablilities and had my service cancelled. Directv debited my bank account for 407.00 after I had already spoken to a rep who told me that I would not be charged a cancellation fee. The accounting department would not refund my money nor would my bank and Directv gave me the president's name and address.

paying for service I'm not getting
I recently purchased the NFL Suday Ticket from Directv. Already paying for high definition service, I was under the impression that the football games that I would be watching on the ticket would be in high definition. They were not. I called customer service to ask about this and was told that in order to watch these games in high definition I would have to pay $99.00 for another package. I feel that Directv should have made that clear when I ordered, which they did not. I feel that I paid too much money for terrible service. I will be switching my service.

billling
When I signed up for satillite svc I was given 4 receivers. I was not told at any time that there would be a $5.00 monthly fee for each receiver. I spoke to several representatives and they al assured me the receivers were free. At now time was I told of the monthly fee. Is this bait & Switch?

Bad service
On or about July 29, 2008, I was contacted by sales rep for DirecTV notifying my that my present equipment was out of date and soon be unusable. I agreed to their suggested upgrade of HD receivers. Their first technical rep, a contract firm from San Antonio- Mastec, arrived Aug 6, for which I took a day off from work. He installed two HD receivers and said that the satellite would have to download the software before I would receive the new HD channels for which I was paying. The tech realized I had the wrong satellite dish, but could not install the correct one because DirecTV didn't have the correct work order.
After several days, DirecTV scheduled another tech from the same company. On his service date he installed a new dish, but informed me that I had the wrong transmission cables for HD service from the dish to the receivers. The original tech should have installed new cables. The problem is that the original TV cables were RG59 which were not thick enough to carry the HD signal spectrum. RG6 was the required cable. This was another day off work for me.
When the third technician arrived Aug 26, he marveled that I was getting any signal at all. The original cables from the satellite were RG59 and were spliced into a previously existing TV cable installed by the previous home owner at least eight years before. There were no RG6 cables in the home.
I had already been paying for HD service from DirecTV for two years at $9.99 per month with their physical system incapable to carry such system. With their initially shoddy technical workmanship when the dish was first installed distorting the services DirecTV was claiming to be supplying me, I have invested about $11, 000 in television and audio equipment trying to compensate for it thinking it was my equipment not theirs.
The gist is that DirecTV knew what equipment was installed in my home to enable them to sell services to me. They had poor if any quality control over their technical installation and service contractors and took no action to correct any systemic problems with them. They therefore knowingly billed me for services which they knew they were not supplying all the while advertising a higher quality service which they were incapable of delivering to me, intentionally defrauding me. My losses cover the HD fees I have been paying, and considering the poorly installed original equipment, the entire fees billed over the history of my account, and the TV/audio equipment I purchased over the years trying to improve the reception.
If they knowingly sold me an HD signal to be transmitted from the satellite to my TV over inferior cables without making the technological changes or before the changes were available, then they my have and are possibly still defrauding millions of customers.

billing
I feel that I am a victim of a “bait and switch” tactic on the part of DirecTV. I signed up for the Choice Plan after a representative quoted a monthly charge of $39.97 for 4 months and $55.96 after the promotional period; premium channels were included for 4 months. I asked and was told that this was an all-inclusive price except for taxes and $5.99 for insurance. The representative also told me that in August 2009, I could call and the $55 price would be extended for an additional year. I was informed that the first bill would be $67.97 but then the bill would revert to the promotional price. The first bill and each one since has been $89.97. When I questioned the billing a DirecTV representative rudely denied that I was ever offered the $39.97 price. I had taken notes during the initial conversation with Direct TV so I am positive about the terms I was offered. Although, the representative insisted that Direct TV never would have offered me these terms I went on your web site and the terms I was quoted are featured there as one of the available packages.
I was very satisfied with Comcast and only switched to Direct TV after being quoted a much lower price. I am a widow on a limited income and a $50 monthly savings was a powerful incentive to change carriers. Now, I have ended up with inferior quality cable service at the premium price I was paying Comcast. This is not an acceptable outcome.
I want Direct TV to honor the price they quoted me or release me from a contract that was obtained under false pretenses. I have already filed complaints with the FTC, the Better Business Bureau, and the Local Franchising Authority and plan to pursue this matter vigorously until I receive satisfaction.

Unauthorized Credit Charges
In August 2008, my directv service was disconnected for non payment. I only owed the one month, which I do not dispute. Two weeks later, I received an email stating that they had discontinued my service. On 09/29/2008, I attempted to pay my electricity bill with my credit card. To my surprise, the charge was declined. When I checked my balance, DirecTV had charged my card, $179.17. When I called them, I first spoke with a girl who barely spoke english, becoming increasingly frustrated, after spending 10+ minutes on hold, I asked for a supervisor. I was then transferred to a Gentleman named Dax, Dax refused to give me his last name, but informed me his ID # was 100292449. I explained to him what had happened, and that my car had been charged for more than what was owed. I had service for more than 4 years, so there was no early cancellation fee. After he reviewed my file, he agreed that On 09/22/2008, DirecTV had cut my new Bill, now note that I had NO service for the month of August. On the same day, 09/22/2008, they [Directv] charged my card for the same amount that they billed me for. This bill was not mailed to me, emailed to me, nor was the charge authorized. I did not, nor have I ever, elected for automatic bill pay. THE CHARGE WAS MADE WITHOUT MY CONSENT!! After getting a long speech from "Dax", I hung up the phone. I am sure I will not hear from them again, but he assured me that I would hear from his supervisor, whose name is "Marlon" his voice mail number, NOT A REAL VOICE number, is 956-784-7088. So on 09/22/2008 DirecTV cuts a new bill with inflated charges, On 09/22/2008, they also pre-authorize my credit card for the amount of the inflated bill, On 09/27/2008 they post the charges, aparently this 5 day period was to see if I would notice the charge. On 09/29/2008 I spoke with "Dax", and reluctantly I will see if they will keep their word. I will update this post when they do. Until then, Beware of DIRECTV!!! I would entertain hearing from any attorney who would like to file suit against DirecTV. Please note the following information listed below my name and account number is information that was cut and pasted directly from their website. If you notice there is NO automatic bill pay selected!

Scam charges
DirecTV submitted a $646.12 charge to my bank account without authorization to collect on my daughter's account because I had made a payment on her account to help her out several months prior. I did not sign a contract with DirecTV, nor was my banking information given to them to use on the account when it was started a year ago. I had used my debit card to make a payment for my daughter when she got behind and was not aware by doing this, they would keep my information on file and use it for this type of action.
I called and talked with 9 different people and got 9 different answers from we will refund you your money to we can't do anything to help you because we had a new policy to be put in place 4 months prior that anyone who uses the debit card to make a payment on an account is giving permission for DirecTV to use thi card information for collecting past due bills.
My last conversation talking with someone in the Office of the President, I was told they would refund $203.50 for the return of the cable box but that was all I would get and that would be processed immediately. One week later I am still waiting for my $203.50
This action by DirecTV has caused me to not be able to pay my rent, therefore, eviction notice can be served on me at any time. My husband has been out of work for 4 months due to serious health condition and may never be able to go back to work so this action by DirecTV has put severe hardship on us financially.
Our bank was contacted immediately regarding this fraudulent activity and tried to help by faxing over the bank information to DirecTV showing the debit transaction on our account not my daughter's. Now the bank is telling us their is nothing they can do because of the DirecTV policy. We are not finished with the bank yet either!
DirecTV should not be allowed to just take money out of people's bank account, especially when there are not contracts signed and authorization was not given. This type of activity by big companies like DirecTV need to stop!!!

NFL Package
I am sick and tired of Directv having exclusivity for the NFL package!
It was bad enough that I had to mess with this company to begin with, but now I am having to pay for a monthly service fee for programming that I will never watch!
I would love to have the NFL sell the package to multiple cable companies instead of getting in bed with these yahoos!
the customer service sucks, and you never get resolution when you have a problem. I have had two moves with their "relocation" department and in both cases I have had the service disconnected and multiple fines on my account. After several 4o minute phone calls, they credit my account, but this time they are making me buy their monthly service in order to get the NFL.
Directv sucks, and the NFl should definitely get away from this company. I don't know if I will be able to get the NFL without a long-term agreement next season, but if they do, I am out! I have season tickets to the Broncos and it will be too expensive to pay 12 months per year to watch NFL Package for 8 games!

Movie purchase
The week of Sept. 15th 2008 I rented a movie called Nhims Island on Directv with
my Tivo box as I have many other times for the last 10 or so years. My family
has 5 children and they are like all children watch one over and over and over if
they like it. This time was different when we sat down to watch the movie the next
afternoon, the screen said this movie will be deleted at 8:00 pm exactly 24 hours after it was rented. This in not right, even if I went to block buster or some movie
rental place I have it for 5 days. This is wrong and I do not like it. It is wrong to change the menu in the middle with no warning no notice it is wrong...
