Liars
I wanted only a very basic package. The salesperson promised me a $29.99/month deal and did not mention that it was only for the first 12 months. After my first bill I called back but they politely explained that I was not eligible for the credits and that they could only drop my monthly payment to $40/month. After much haggling, two supervisors, and about three hours on the phone I played-back the conversation that I recorded with the first salesperson. It took only a couple of minutes for them to give me more credits to drop the monthly bill to $35/month. This is still more than they promised but I cannot justify more time haggling with them.

Bad service
I signed up for $29.99 and taxes for 150 channels, I insisted that the representative makes sure of his offer because I did not want any surprises in my bills. My bills started coming at $34.99 and taxes. When I tried to explain it to them, they thought I was trying to be smart and get a lower price. I had the confirmation number and the name of the agent, but they didn't care. Now the reception on most of the channels I watch is really bad, I called customer service, and they said a technician has to come out and there will be a one time fee of $79.99 or I can choose to pay $29 at first and 5.99 for 6 months. So I guess I'm gonna have to be paying a higher amount than I was offered, and not able to enjoy my shows for 18 months...

They're a joke
Direct TV what a joke their customer service and their morals suck. I signed up at the beginning for auto payment and they said I didn't and my service was cancelled. They said I couldn't sign up at my first initial

contact with them, to have auto withdraw. They said I had to call after the service was installing. What a joke!

Then they charge me an initial start up fee. I have had nothing but problems with direct from the start. They are very good at stealing legally. I even referred a neighbour when I first got direct. Then I called direct to complain about my bill, because I was not receiving my referral discount. They said that my 5 month discount had ended. I told them that I had only had their service for 3 month, so how could my $50.00 be gone. Because they pay it at $10.00 a month. Direct representative had no excuse, but reinstated my discount for one year. I believe it when I see it. If you have direct TV watch every monthly billing transaction, they are the best at bad corporate America. If their even an American own company.

Wrong charges
Direct TV is working with me but this company was very hateful this morning by phone. Time 10:15 - June 18, 2008. I contacted Direct TV right after and they told me it was not a problem they would be working with me as previously discussed during my off time from surgery in May...I would love to nail this company because they are the very one giving others a bad name...Direct TV told me it was noted in my record and there was not a problem and if the company called back refer them to Direct.

Unfair to customer
We were promised Yes network with upgraded mlb package and then found out that we did not get to see Yankee games the day we moved in when we were assured that we would see the games with the YES network. We signed up for a Verizon bundle package and Verizon has a 60 day cancellations policy and Direct TV has 24 hours... needless to say they charged us $450 cancellation fee. We tried to talk to some and returned our equipment and paid $230 for installation with no refund...We are now getting collection notices for cancelling for service we were promised and did not receive. I want to know who thinks that is FAIR PRACTICE. I think Verizon should be just as responsible but they said take it up with DirecTV but the bundle ordered was with Verizon.

Unable to install - charged early cancelation fee
I signed up for DirecTV in January 2008. Had an unplanned corporate relocation that took me to another state. Called DirecTV and paid the $50 to transfer and install the service at my new house. The tech arrived and after assessing the property for about 30 minutes, I was told there is "no line-of sight" and the dish could not be mounted.

Called DirecTV and asked them what my options were. They said I could cancel the service, but would be charged an early cancellation fee of $440. The rep said she would submit this fee to the billing dispute department on my behalf.

A month later, I have a bill for $440. I again called DirecTV and was told by the incompetent rep that it was a "valid charge". I was again told by an even more incompetent supervisor that it was a "valid charge". I asked this supervisor how they could possibly charge me for disconnecting a service they COULD NOT INSTALL. Of course, they did not have an answer and referred me to the billing dispute department - the same department that deemed the inability of providing service not a resaon to cancel. I guess they expect me to keep paying the monthly fee, even though they can't provide service.

I find this absolutely amazing. Now I have to submit yet another dispute.

Is it just me or are they insane?

Customer Service
I switched from Charter Communications in September 2007 so my husband could get the "Sports Pkg" that DirecTV offers. What a mistake! I can't go back to Charter because DirecTV made me take a 24 month contract!

I left my husband 3 months ago and had DirecTV moved. It has been such a problem since getting customer service, can't get an online account set-up. It keeps showing the previous acct activity but they can't change it and wants to know why I want to change my account number???? I said, Well it would be nice to have my "current" account show up so I can view my statements, pay my bill, etc.". But they couldn't change it.

My HD channels keep going off...just a black screen. They can't seem to get that corrected either.

When I call I spend at LEAST an hour and most of the time MORE on the phone just waiting for a CSR.
They have no other contact information listed on their Web Site so you can write a letter or anything.

I WANT OUT OF THIS CONTRACT. I've got til Oct of 2009!!!

About 2 months ago I called Direct TV after getting the phone number online. I had a very specific need and currently had a hd cable provider but I did not have the local channels. I was given a very reasonable price for the package I wanted which included 2 hd receivers free and internet service. Well once it was installed I did not have any of the packages I wanted and I also found out they did not offer internet and I did not get the local channels. Also the price that I got on the phone direct TV would not live up to they said I had no choice I had signed up on a 2 year contract even though I never signed anything. Just the fact that everything direct TV said was a lie and I would suggest no one sign up for their service.

And here is the topper I called 2 weeks in advance to set up to move my service to my new house my wife took off work because the hours they gave us were 12 to 4 and now they say the work order did not get put in so we are screwed.

Poor service
The DirecTV satellite receiver I had had since 05 July 2003 ceased to function in January 2008, but fulfilled its original 12 month contractual obligation. Since my DirecTV service is bundled with Qwest hone/broadband service, I contacted Qwest with the issue. I was transferred to a DirecTV customer service

representative. On 22 Jan 2008, DirecTV sent me a replacement receiver; the older non-functioning receiver was not to be returned. A few days later, he

replacement receiver & remote control arrived with n operations manual (and nothing more); from a ticker and surface mares, the box was a previously used unit. DirecTV monthly fees were periodically raised from $34 to $55 to exceed my budget. The week of 09 Jun 08 I contacted DirecTV via Qwest to terminate DirecTV service. The service was terminated. On 16 Jun 08, I received a DirecTV

bill for $260 alleging I had terminated the 2 year contract early. The bill also informs me that if I fail to return the equipment, I will be charged a "non-returned equipment" fee. At no time was I aware that receiving a replacement box would obligate me to a 2 year contract. As a loyal, consistently paying customer for 5+ years, this is an unethical business practice. 16 Jun 2008, I contacted DirecTV by phone. I voiced my complaint to 3 managers, each of higher rank. The ast, "Regina" would not reverse the charge and would not provide me a name to whom I should address a letter of dispute; she abruptly hung up on me.

I want DirecTV to 1) negate the fraudulent $260 "early contract termination" charge, 2) forward a "0" balance due statement to me, 3) abandon this (and all) unethical business practices and policies, 4) initiate policies that REWARD loyal customers instead of penalizing them, and 5) empower customer services managers to "serve the customer."

stealing money out of my bank acct.
Just like thousands of people out there, directv did a ream job on me. We were assess $463 for early cancellation fee, even though we were with them for more than 5 years. It came down to when their product the box broke last dec. and ask for a replacement. When we cancelled last March '08 they said we owe $463 for early cancellation, we complaint to probably no less than 20 customer service/supervisors, and letters mailed, but only got crap from them and no response to the letters. So I decided to e-mail the board of directors and some ladies name you suppose to complain too. Within an hour I got an acct. management person willing to work with my complaint (or so you think). He comes back after some couple of hours (or lunch) and said that it is within their rights to steal the money out my bank even though I'm not on the contract/acct. So $463 and multiple bank fees later and to this day I'm negative almost $800.
