Fraudulent Billing Practices - SCAM
I had an account with DTV in Colorado in 2006 and 2007 before moving to FL on August 27, 2007.
Today I received an invoice from DTV for $41.84 for three alledged pay per view movies from NOVEMBER OF 2006. Today's date is June 9, 2008! This is AFTER they'd withdrawn nearly $500 from my checking account debit card for the 'Final' billing in August of 2007. (remember you have to give them a credit card when signing the contract - BEWARE - of DTV's Scam/Fraudulent Billing practices) Part of that $500 was for a DVR receiver that I mistakenly thought was mine to keep. It wasn't. I sent it back.
DTV's explanation of how they could charge for 3 movies almost a year and a half later and over 9 months since the account had been closed and the receiver returned?
The ACCESS CARD inside the returned receiver (received by DTV 9 months ago) showed three PPV movies. I didn't have a phone line in the apartment where the billing originated and because of that, if I'd ordered a movie, I'd have had to CALL them to have them send it to the dish. Not to mention, doesn't a FINAL bill MEAN 'final!?'
And WHY hadn't they CHECKED the receiver until 9 months later FOR the access card? Isn't there a statute of limitations on DTV's B.S.??????
Needless to say, I will NEVER recommend their company after all the b.s. they've pulled and I'm currently waiting for a billing supervisor to call me back. They wanted to have me write a letter to them which I told them I wasn't inclined to waste any more of my time dealing with a SCAM DIRECTV company.

Bait & Switch
I too have been mislead by Directv. I was contacted in late Dec by a salesman asking me to return to DTV. He made me grand promises - Great package, FREE equipment, DVR service, 2 extra receivers for free with no monthly lease fee, $10 off for 12 month as a programing credit, $50 off on my first bill, and an additional $10 off a month for returning to them. Total cost a month to me was to be $54.
When the technician came to hook me up, he had installed all the equipment and then called the service center to activate my service. He gave them all the pertinent information and then they asked to speak with me. Immediately, the saleswoman on the phone began quoting prices to me - that of course did not match what I had been told. I politely told her that I would not have a price discussion with her, that I had made a verbal agreement with the salesman on the phone, and either they honored that agreement, or that we had no agreement.
It has been 5 months and I am still fighting with them, calling them every couple of weeks because some credit is missing off my bill, or I am being charged lease fees that were to be waived, and I am now being charged for the local channels that were to be included in my price, and the list goes on, Every month, my bill has increased. Only one time did it come in at $54. The last bill I received was over $80. I asked that they disconnect my two extra receivers (that I was to get lease free, which I'm not), and now they want me to ship them back. So much for "Free equipment".
I was also recently told that one of my credits required me to submit a rebate form. I had not been given this information until May. The website address I was given did not work. When I finally made contact to get the correct address, I found out that the rebate that I was to be getting had expired...in March.
What a crock...My problem is, that if I want TV, I have to deal with them or Dish Network. Cable is not an option where I live. My husband and I did without TV for almost a year, and I am leaning toward that again.
Any suggestions on how we can ban together and get them to come clean??

I regret the day I signed up with this service
I cannot order pay per view movies through my TV, and when I buy through the internet it tells me I have not purchased this movie and cannot watch it. Every time I call their "Customer Service" (Which is in a whole different country) I repeat the same story five times and receive the same rehearsed answer. To them some how my pay per view just magically stopped working. I would much rather them tell me the truth, that they are clueless and their product ***, or at least speak to someone who listens and understands my complaint.
Fast forwarding and rewinding is a chore in itself, and the excitement of wondering whether my show will be recorded or not is always an adventure.
Needless to say I will be satisfied once I cancel my subscription and would not recommend using this company. This company has the worst customer service I have ever experienced, and no my problem has not been resolved Direct TV.

No service
Saturday night and 12 Laps to go in the Nationwide Nascar series. The ESPN2 channel stops broadcasting and all I get is the DirecTV Logo. 15 minutes later it comes on with car 88 in victory circle. He was in 3rd place with 12 laps to go.
DirecTV failed to provide me with the exciting racing that took place in those last 10 laps. Will they refund any portion of my monthly payment? No they will not!
Just goes to show when you see their commercials, they are be deceitful!

Bait and switch
The City of Los Angeles has brought a lawsuit against Times-Warner for not providing services to subscribers.
I write to tell you of another 'bait-and-switch' that DirecTV is attempting to pull against my mother, a San Pedro elderly resident. She switched from Dish Network almost two months ago because DirecTV offered a few more high definition channels.
The original offer was for up to three TV connections at $29.00, I'm sure you've seen the many mail offers.
After a long discussion with the agent over the phone we agreed the monthly charge was to be $51.00. The charges were higher because my mother needed one high definition desk-top receiver and one regular receiver, plus the high definition service. We agreed to the higher $51.00 fee.
Dish Network would have charged is $49.95, but they offered a few high definition channels less. We all thought it was worth the extra $1.05 to switch.
Needless to say, my mother was very upset to receive her first bill at $73.38!
I called DirecTV on her behalf to straighten the bill out. I finally told the agent that we agreed to pay $51.00 and that we refused to pay the $73.38 they demanded. The agent finally said fine, send in the $51.00 payment.
This month we got another bill for $77.76! A second phone to complain got me nowhere and after a very long discussion with the agent I was finally connected with a supervisor.
I told the supervisor that we would not pay that kind of money because that was not the amount we agreed on. At this point the supervisor said no, we agreed to those higher charges and after all, DirecTV was giving us 'free' HBO for three months and that should help make-up for the higher cost!
I then told DirecTV to come and get their equipment because we were not going to be cheated or coerced into paying that kind of money for their service. We told her we would only pay the original $51 we agreed to.
At this point the supervisor said, "That's fine with us BUT, you will be charged $400 and more because you are ending service early". She also advised that DirecTV would be charging my mothers American Express card for all charges in mid-July no matter what we said.
Needless to say, we are extremely upset and feel almost robbed by this dishonest company. How many other Los Angeles residents have been cheated by this company? Please know that we will do everything possible to help see this bait-and-switch end. If it requires a lawsuit, we will cooperate with the city in every way.

Rip off
DirecTV is a national consumer rip off retailer. They offer great deals take your $200 immediately and say a contract was agreed to verbally which was out and out lie. Nothing was agreed to unless their service and installation was approved by me.
One day later they took another $100 unauthorized money out of my account and told me that they will charge me another $400. for early cancellation of their "contract» Two of their contracts start that a person over 18 has to be here to sign--no one signed anything I had to leave for a doctors appointment and my husband who is blind was the only one here and is not allowed to sign anything

Horrible company
I had DirecTV service for a little over three years. It began with technical issues we had with our satellite. On nice days our satellite would be fuzzy and shut down. After numerous calls to the technical team they basically told me there was nothing they could do because the readings they had at their office said the system was working properly.
This went on for a few months and they it seemed to fix itself, all without help from the service department. Recently we decided to switch to another company because it would save us money each month. When I called to cancel the problems really began. First off they explained to me that the DVR we had was only a lease when I was specifically told when we purchased it that they were running a special and we could purchase the DVR for $99. They of course said that they informed us but they never did.
Aside from that lie then I specifically asked if we would be charged any cancellation fees. I was told twice that we would not be charged anything because we did not have an outstanding contract because we had previously fulfilled ours. The customer service rep then told me that we would be receiving a check for the month of service because we were canceling within two days of the new month. I was told the check would arrive in 4-6 weeks. Well it has been almost 8 weeks so I called last night and not only were we not receiving a check but the money we should have been receiving went towards the CANCELLATION FEES. I was furious when I heard this. I explained everything to the rep and he basically said that we didn't fulfill our DRV agreement of two years. I spoke to a supervisor who explained that she would forward the complaint to the appropriate person but I am sure they will simply wipe their bottom with it. This type of behavior and lack of any response demonstrates to me that Directv obviously doesn't care about their customers.

Unauthorized charges
I entered into a two agreement with DirecTV ad after 20 months, the DVR became defective and needed to be replaced. DirecTV sent a replacement. After a total of 27 months I cancelled my service and got charged over $204 for an early termination.
DirecTV automatically renewed my contract when they replaced the DVR previously. They never notified me of the extension or requested my approval.
Maintenance service is not included in their contract commitment and must be purchased separately.
Because of their inability to comply with their original contract term of two years, I was being charged a penalty.
They also have an endless supply of "Supervisors" to read a script that this is their corporate policy.
BUYER BEWARE. D|O NOT DO BUSINESS WITH DIRECT TV.

Rip Off
My experience with DirecTV was of being over billed, charged for "free" services with a back out credit not issued until the next month, overly complex billing to confuse and disguise the true cost, scripted customer service from India, poor TV reception, a total reluctance by DirecTV to correct the over billing and to fulfill their end of the bargain and a $400 fee to get them out of my life. This is one company I wish I had never encountered; they are, quite simply, crooks with little to no regard for their customers, other than their bank accounts. I should bill them for the hours spent on the phone trying to get the bill corrected. AVOID THESE PEOPLE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

Extra charges
I had relocated to Ga and in the process I ordered direct TV . Well I only authorized 19.99 to be charged to my debit card for shipping of the equipment they said we were approved and that is all we had to pay to get started. THAT WAS B.S. when I cancelled the service even before they were supposed to hook it up because they couldn’t find a confirmation number. when I gave them what I was given I said cancel the order do not send me anything and do not charge my credit card the rep assured me they wouldn’t the next day my debit card is charged 347.28 cents . WHICH I NEVER AGREED TO > they are scandalous it made my bank account negative ( we just moved ) and screwed me up thank god I had bank of America and disputed the charges and finally they gave the money back . Horrible horrible horrible!
