DirecTV Reviews

They are money hungry
DirecTV Customer service and billing needs more customer skills. They do not contact you about your bill, instead they just shut your service off and then you have to pay a reconnect fee before they restore your services. If you have already paid the bill and they disconnect your services, they expect you to still have to pay a reconnect fee. They do not care about the customers and if it were not for the customers they would not continue to be in business. They do not try to work with their customers and the economy is in a slump. We need another satellite company to beat them out, then that is when DirecTV will act like they care. We need to do something about this company.

misrepresentation
Cannot receive local channels due to spring tree growth in my region. Asked prior to installation if a site discovery would be necessary... was told it was not. Asked how long the contract was; was told one year. It is 2 years. Asked if for some reason site position prevented from receiving channels if I could cancel subscription. Was told I could. Now told I cannot without penalties. Penalties are $400 to cancel subscription. Inquired about internet service but was not informed how expensive it could be in my area. Internet service in my area requires an additional dish and up to $400 to receive the service . There are only 3 days to cancel the subscription without penalties... hardly long enough to see if service will work as promised. I would and will not recommend Directv to anyone. I should have stayed with Comcast!!!

Customer service without a clue
If I had been told up front about losing my local stations and that I can not get recovery kits until after the service is cancelled I would not have had to speak to 5 different people. I called to ask that my account be closed on June 20th. I'm moving out of state and not taking DirecTV Service with me.

The account address was changed, I lost local channels, I called to find out why. I was told that

my account must stay in my current address and that recovery kits must be sent to my new address and I have to move the receivers with me and ship from my new address. How stupid is that? Now I must call in on the 19th give you my new address

and cancel my account!! You are back asswards people!!! I wanted to have a planned cancellation date and send back the receivers the week we move! But you can't do that!

Not being directed to a supervisor when requesting over and over again
Over a month ago I disconnected my service with DirecTV. I was told that the only thing I owed on my account was $4.??. I received the bill and paid for it immediately. A month later I am receiving a bill for PPV movies that I was sure had been paid already. I called 1-800-531-5000 and spoke first with Simon. He explained to me that my receiver, once received, was downloaded and three movies showed up from a year ago that had not been paid for. I asked him to explain to me how I have been watching movies this whole time and paying for them monthly right up until the time I cut off my service and he was unable to explain to me how this happened. So, I asked for a Supervisor. He finally transferred me and then I was disconnected.

I called back the 1-800-531-5000 and spoke with a very rude man named Michael. He seemed to know what was going on but was unable to shed any light on the situation either. So again, I asked to be transferred to a Supervisor and Michael refused to do so. He kept arguing with me and telling me that he doesn’t understand what my problem is and that I owe the money. I asked him over and over again to transfer me and he still refused. So I hung up and called a different number and spoke to a lady named Nicole who said that she would file a complaint on him on my behalf and explain to me why I have these charges. Finally, Nicole was able to explain to me what happened. Thanks Nicole.

I still do not understand why I was not transferred to a Supervisor? This was a very simple request. I never had a problem with DirecTV before and was going to sign back up with them but not now. I have never been so angry at a customer service rep in my life and will never sign back up with DirecTV.

DirecTV can thank Michael for that. I hope they review the tape and listen to him argue with me the way he did and discipline accordingly.

Don't use them
Direct TV customer 7 months. Cannot use hdmi cable as Direct TV is still "working with" hdmi cable manufacturers so that they equipment with work with all cables. I was told these 5 months ago. Now ABC has always had periodic break-up at my home in Oregon. Last week, lost 5 min of the Indy 500 race. No picture at all. Today trying to watch another Indy Car race. Worst break up ever, constant. Call Cust svc: poor csr has to tell me all the BS she has been told to tell customers that, once again, DTV is "working on the problem with local channels." Right... BS! I have had break-up for 7 months! Never buy DTV, contracts not a good idea. I will go back to cable and buy fewer channels. I chose DTV because COMCAST was charging more and offering less. I may go back to a big *** house antenna and put up with less TV, save $ and drop all the satellite, cable BS. DONT BUY DIRECT TV!

unfair contract
I have had the directv service since 2002. and since this time I had to replace three of their decoder boxes, which each one cost me 20.00 each to have it shipped to my home. Today as of may 30, 2008 i called to cancel my service and the customer service rep. informed me that still would owe around 220.00 for my leased not be all the way out. I said to her that I have had my service since 2002 and my orginial contract for 1 year has been up.
She said that in oct. of 2007 i ordered a replacement for a bad decoder box and that was a new order and that is when the 18 month contract was started. I said to her that I had the service in two rooms and I didnot change the service but the one in the bedroom was not working. She said for me not to get the contract I should of left the one tv broken in my room so I would not get another contract. I said to her that I had this directv since 2002 and I didnot think that replacing a broken recoder box was a new contract.

Wrong equipment, equipment that does not work, poor customer service, fraudulent practices
I ordered service with a DVR, to record programs. I never got the DVR. One of the standard receivers has never worked. When I call Directv to get these problems fixed, they try to sign me up for an additiona two year commitments, and tell me they are saving me money! I will never deal with this company again. Avoid them!!!

Late Cancelation Fee
I was wrongfully charged a late fee by DirecTV even though it was not me who cancelled my service but Qwest whom through I had signed up for DirecTV. Now I am getting harassing phone calls asking for the money that they say I owe them for a late cancellation fee - I say I owe them nothing. Now I am fighting back. I am looking for other people who have had similar experiences with DirecTV to join me in a class action lawsuit against DirecTV. If you have had similar experiences with DirecTV and would be willing to join a lawsuit against them email me at nomoredirectv [at] gmail.com

customer service/billing
I also am having issues with Directv Inc. I started their service, in April of 08. When the installer showed up to install only part of my order was here. He only installed one line to our HD DVR box and it never would record. He stole our satellite dish from previous company. He never had me sign the contract. I called, I have written I get no where. I cancelled the service and went back to Dish, which they have been great. I am now being billed for early cancellation with directv and they are not showing the partial pmt I paid on the day I started service with them. I seem to get nowhere. I have emailed, called, written to the only address they give. Nothing. I just get another bill for the same amount. I had service for 3 days. The service completely stopped working on the 3rd day and they told me it would be 2 weeks before someone could come out to repair. Bad customer service.

They will nail you with hidden charges
Be very careful doing business with DirecTV. They were nice when we first signed on with them a few years back, but now they seem more concerned with gouging us at every opportunity. We upgraded to HD and were socked with $150 in additional secret fees, on top of the $200 for the HD-DVR box and $20 in monthly fees we knew of and consented to. Customer Service once you sign on is nonexistent. The web page is spotty on information and connecting with a human being who can help you is nearly impossible. Get ready to be transferred a dozen times, placed on hold a dozen times and tour the world with accents you cannot understand.
