Charged $186.64 for nothing
In October 2007 my receiver started messing up playboy movies started popping up on my screen, it would change channels by it's self, and sometimes i would have a black screen. I started calling and reporting it as soon as the trouble started. I called for something like 3 months before anything was done about it. Finally they came out and put in a new receiver. When I got my next bill there were charges for multiple movies any where from $15.99-$19.99 each. They added up to $186.64 more than my regular bill. When i called about it they said they got them off my old receiver. Number one I do not rent movies and I never have. And if I did I would not be renting the filth that was coming up on my tv. I also have a password on my account to ensure that no one else rents them. But it doesn't make any sense that they claim to have gotten them off my receiver in april and the charges were from last year starting in oct. plus the fact if movies had been ordered they would not have gotten them off the receiver they would have billed me for them at the time they were viewed. This bill did not have a name for the movies rented all it had was a date and a price, no other info. Even though I called many times about the trouble with my service it seems they had no record of me ever calling no notes no nothing. I find that hard to understand, but maybe that is what took them so long to do anything about the problem. I was told by a customer service supervisor to send this e-mail.
Thank you very much

Beware of Directv
I upgraded my standard service to HD in April. The tech came to install it and it was working fine. He told us when the leaves came out on the trees we would probably have to cut a tree down to improve our reception. The leaves came out and we lost HD, so we cut the tree down with not improvement. I called directv and they sent another tech out. He told us that we would never be able to receive HD because our land was too wooded and that we'd probably have to cut down another 6-8 large oaks to maybe ger reception. Of course we were not willing to do that and quite upset that we'd cut a tree down in the first place. When I called directv I was offered no resolution and was told that their policy did not allow for refunds once installation was complete and that they could send me another receiver but it would extend my contract even further. Needless to say I could not believe they would offer such a ridiculous solution. So now I'm in a 2 yr contract and out $214.00 dollars for a HD receiver that does not receive HD and service for a month that half worked. The only thing they were able to do after many phone calls and several long waits on hold was to remove the HD channels and not charge me anymore for them. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that she was busy and would call me back in 2 hrs. That was 2 weeks ago. I was also told that they did not have a number for the cooperate office. Beware of Directv!! As for me I have contacted the local tv stations, the BBB, and every blog I can find to warn other people about the fraudulant practices of directv.

It is a criminal company
DirecTV breaks laws all the time. My experience with this company is ongoing and I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau (DirecTV lied to them) and Consumer Affairs, the FCC and coming soon: State and Federal Courts. I see a "60 Minutes" special in the future. Please all join in for a class action lawsuit. This company is pure trash. Cancel your accounts with DirecTV and cut off their access to your accounts (they will illegally keep charging you) and protect yourselves while you can. This company is out to make as much money as possible before being shut down by the Feds.

Scam and rip off!
I, too, fell for one of their "perks" - free DVD player. My service was installed 12.12.07 & my salesman told me that I would be receiving the Redemption Form for the DVD player. After making 3 calls, I finally received the form 1/19/08 & noticed that the form had to be "postmarked by 12/31/07". Wrote note on it that service was not installed until 12/12/07 & mailed in necessary paperwork. After many calls about not receiving the free DVD player, DirecTV is saying that my promotion package expired 10/31/07 & I am not eligible for the free DVD player! Why wasn't I told this everytime I called for the form??? What lying rip-off artists they are! But, I am not done with them. I am living up to my end of the agreement and they should too. If I was to cancel my agreement with them, I would be penalized. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and the Attorney General's Office. I warned DirecTV that I would post a message on this website & also will post one on "Rip Off Reports". I want my DVD player and I WILL GET IT!!!

Fraudulently starts service without permission and then demands payment for it
I called in to cancel our DirecTV service in March 2007. The account rep told me I should place the account on suspension instead of canceling it, and she told me that I would have to call in to start the service up again if I desired. We have never called in to start service up again and, in fact, this family has been completely without television (from DirecTV or anyone else) from April 2007 through today. We have no intention of ever starting television service again, and we have been holding the modem in its original box waiting for DirecTV to tell us what to do with it. Nevertheless, service was re-started without our permission or knowledge in January 2008 and DirecTV now expects payment for three months of service. They terminated our service in mid-March because we hadn't paid the bill. (Although I told them on March 2, 2008, by telephone and letter to terminate the service, they refused to do so until they realized I wasn't going to pay.) The current balance is a little over $200.
I have been advised by Margaret and Sheldon at the customer service center that, if I agreed to stay with DirecTV, they would waive half of the balance owing, but they would not close my account and zero the balance. This alternative is completely unsatisfactory. DirecTV has and is committing fraud against our family by putting our account on suspension under false pretenses and starting service again without permission.

False advertisement
Switched from cable to Direct TV in December 2007. Ad states free DVD player and 1yr free protection plan along with some free premium channels for 3 months and HDDVR receiver. Sent in all necessary paper work, Multiple phone calls about free DVD player. They first denied that there ever was such a program. Then someone told me that yes it was coming in a couple of weeks. Never did get the player but after multiple phone calls got a credit. Now it seems they are giving me the same run-around with regard to the 1 year free protecting plan. First individual I spoke with said they never had such a program. I'm convinced they give you the run around hoping you eventually will give up. Might just be the worst company I have ever dealt with. They lie constantly. I cannot be the only one out there that has had this experience with Direct TV. My next contact is MN state attorney generals’ office.

Billing Dispute
For any billing problems/early cancelation charges call the DirecTv home office in El Segundo, Ca. The phone # is 310-535-5000. Ask for Bobby Vernon. He works in the office of the president as the Cusomer Care Manager for DirecTv.
He has the authority to correct all the billing mistakes and you do not get the run around from the customer service call center and being placed on hold for what seems like for ever.

Very upset at DirecTV billing
I had DirecTV for 5 years. DirecTV was unwilling to work with me on getting my bill down to affordable levels. No where online or on my receiver did it say that after I ordered ppv sports packages I couldn't get at least a credit for the unwatched portions of those packages. Apparently you are supposed to go to the website and find this out before you order them over the receiver I guess.
Anyways I am left with an 1100 DirecTV bill I refuse to pay. I told them they can stick their service where the sun doesn't shine and I will never deal with them again. I now have dish network and like it except for they don't have as nice equipment or as many sports/hd channels. The sad thing was I was willing to pay them $700 to pay off my account and they told me I owed them $900 and wouldn't back down.
I figured a company would take the $700 and be happy but I guess DirecTV doesn't think that way for some reason.

False advertising
I ordered DirecTV in March 2007 as a result of receiving numerous advertisements in the mail. One of the free offers was a portable dvd player worth $129.00. Since I had always wanted a portable dvd player, I decided to order the satellite tv (I was fed up with camcast cable tv). I followed all instructions as required, received everything I was supposed to except the portable dvd player. When I contacted DirecTV, I was told I was not eligible for the portable dvd offer and was given no explanation as to why. I sent a letter of complaint to DirecTV in October 2007, received a phone call that indicated my complaint was being sent to a resolution specialist. After that, nothing at all. However, I did receive in the mail a "consolation gift" of a standard dvd player, which could not have been worth more than $20.00. I contacted the attorney general's office in my state, Maryland, and submitted a written complaint to the consumer division. The responses received from DirecTV were ridiculous. I was told that since I did not call the phone number listed in the ad, I was not eligible for the GWA (gift with activation). I had called the well known number 1-800-directv. In fact, each of the two advertisements I kept from that period, had different phone numbers, but showed the exact same free gifts, one of which was the PORTABLE dvd player. There is nothing in the ads that say you must call that particualr phone number. I would never have guessed that a phone number is used as the criteria for being eligible for a gift when activating a service. I was never told otherwise from the first time I called to order the service until I received the letters through the AG''s office in MD. I guess my next step is to write a letter directly to the President of DirecTV expressing my dismay. I will gladly return the standard dvd player and would like a rebate of $129.00, a credit on my bill or the actual portable dvd player which I feel I should have received in the beginning. I wonder if anyone else had this same problem. I have not seen any of the same complaints after surfing the net about it. I appreciate any help someone can give me. Thanks.

unauthorized billing
DIRECTV kept charging my credit card even though I was no longer a customer, even though I repeatedly asked to have my credit card data removed from their files, (and was told it had been).
No matter who you talk with, they do not give straightforward answers to simple questions like, "Please tell me all charges to my account over the past 3 months." - and these 3 months were AFTER I had moved out-of-state and was NO LONGER a CUSTOMER.
All I've been trying to do is get a refund for the money they charged to my account after they shut down my account - - and they won't do it.
At this point, I have no idea what recourse is available to me.
Once an account is cancelled, NO company should have the right to KEEP my credit card info HOSTAGE.
