They lied, so we cancelled
Direct TV lied, they promised, ("You get $50.They get $50.") they lied! Instead they wanted to credit my account and my friends account, my friend doesn't have Direct so they told me I would get both $50. amounts .My bill would be $19.99 for 10 months $29.99 for 2 months and then $46.99 for 6 months, my first bill was instead of 19.99 was 46.99 we called and found that we were not getting the extra 50 credit so we cancelled the service and changed our credit card account before they charged the account.

Overcharged!
I noticed on 4/18/08 that I had a collection account on Experian Credit Bureau from DIRECTV in the amount of $166.00. After contacting DIRECTV I was told that my old account at my previous address had been reactivated after 3 months, without my knowledge or consent. Prior to moving, on 7/23/07, I notified DIRECTV that I would be relocating to Arizona. I was told to leave my dish, take my receiver and notify DIRECTV when I arrived at my new residence, this is exactly what I did.
Upon arrival, less than 3 weeks later, in the month of August I notified DIRECTV of my new address and requested my service be reactivated, within 10 days my service was in fact reactivated at my new address in Arizona, using all my previous information. My current account was reactivated using ALL my original information, name, D.O.B., and SS#, which in fact DIRECTV already had. Directv continues to hold me accountable for this account which they reactivated after I reestablished service at my new residence less than 3 weeks later.
I have filed a report with BBB and am currently discussing this situation with a family attorney.

Cancelled & reported to collections
Had DirecTV for 6 years. The reason I cancelled is because of their High Definition scam. I received these so called 80+ channels. Without notice, they turned a bunch of them (the popular ones) into pay channels. They told me they posted it on their website. I told them I am never on the website, how about an email, or phone call. They had no answer for that one. So I decided to cancel my service and use my local cable provider. I called to pay my past due and prorate charge, they told me that I could not, and that when you cancel, it would be automatically withdrawn. Well 2 months later, I received a call from collections agency for a "past due balance"?!? When confronting Directv supervisor, they said I have to write a letter (no phone #) to dispute my bill. I think they do this to add late charges to your account. They are one of the largest scam artists when it comes to cancelling services.

They've stolen my money
I had Direct TV for 2 years and not once did I get what I paid for. I cancelled the service because I started receiving no service at all. After spending HOURS on the phone with DirecTV after cancelling because I was not able to watch TV. Direct TV used a debit card (they stored card holder data) that I took off the account and stole $490.00 out of my account. DirectTV has said I do not owe this money but refuses to put back in my account. Every time I call it is always a different time span that they are going to but it back I have heard everything from 3 days to 8 weeks. The Money was taken out of my account in Jan 08, it is now April 08. ALSO, since cancelling DirecTV has called and asked what they could do to get our business back. ALL we originally wanted was to watch the TV Service that we were paying for. We were laughed at and hung up on prior to cancelling because we had no reception. WE NOW HAVE DISH AND SERVICE IS MUCH BETTER.

They've stolen money from me
On 03/12/08 I returned 5 receiver boxes to DirecTV after I moved and cancelled service with the company. Two weeks later (03/28/08) I was billed for these receiver boxes erroneously ($272.22). I immediately called to figure the situation out, and was told by the first representative that I would be credited within 24-48 hours for my unnecessary charges. I asked this representative how their company could still bill me after I clearly returned the items, and the woman said, "Well, the departments are in different areas, and don't communicate." ??? Ridiculous.
I then waited 48 hours and called back when no refund was posted. The next representative I spoke with told me that it would in fact take 10-14 business days, clearly a different timeframe, was very rude, and no matter how much I asked to speak with the "finance dept." I could not speak with them, and even the management would not let me speak with them, nothing was changing. I asked how I was supposed to believe that this was a true timeframe, since the first was different. They assured me everything would be fine.
This morning makes 14 days. Surprise, no money refunded. I called only to be told ONCE AGAIN by representatives that the time frame is actually 6-8 weeks, although my charges were made by mistake!!! I immediately requested the management, I spoke with Yesenia, who has now assured me that she is working to make this refund happen within eight business days from today. ???
I don't know what to believe or who to turn to. I feel as though this is illegal since I have returned the items they charged me for, and they have admitted fault.

lies and bad service
year ago i moved to palmdale, ca i tried to swtich my service to the new address and i call the company to change it and to have a new plan new chanels but at that time i was told if i get the dvr they will give a prize they never give nothing then i called to cancel the service but i found that i was i a contract and i never was imformed about it, then 2 months later a called to change the chanels to add more but i was charged more than i expected.moth ago the dvr broke down it just show a black square on the tv, i called they told me they will change it with no cost at all they never mencioned shipping or handling;now they charging me that amount and 2 more recivers because the thecnician never diconnect the old dvr, i called back again and the only thing they keep telling is everyboy has to pay shipping but iwas never tlod that.so as you can see they give only certain information ;only what the costumer want to hear from them, and they lie about the service and the prices they never gave.i like to cancel this account but gues i have to pay fee.and please do somthing thank you. lidia

Misleading promises and poor customer service
Basically the same thing happened to me. I had a two-year contract. Reception on my new plasma TV was always marginal at best with Direct TV service. I now have cable service and it is fine.
After 13 months of complaining and many wasted hours of written and phone contacts with Direct TV customer service, I recently cancelled my contract. They billed my credit card $125 for an early cancellation fee.
I was surprised as well to find out the equipment I got from Best Buy was a lease not a purchase.
I also found out that the original agreement that I signed (that the Direct TV installer required before he would do anything) had a fine print clause that said that any non-resolvable issues could be settled only by binding arbitration. I have since discovered that there is a mandatory $125 application fee to request a hearing for binding arbitration.
This company obviously knows how to stack the deck. This entire nightmare has cost me about $1000, about 50 hours of wasted time, personal embarrassment with family and friends, and confrontation with my condo association and neighbours for improper installation of the dish that Direct TV had installed, etc, etc..
All of the customer service reps I spoke with had been trained to read from a script. They offered the same canned responses. They could not give you the name of a supervisor or connect you to one. Their mailing address they post for customer service is a dead letter office. There is no reply or record kept of your correspondence.
After I cancelled my service I was told that they only installed dishes, they did not remove dishes. I had to call around and eventually pay to have someone to get the dish removed from my roof.
I will never recommend Direct TV to anyone. I am surprised that a company this size can remain in business with such disregard for customer satisfaction. I am planning to write a detailed letter to the editor of our local newspaper to request my concerns be printed to help warn the public.

Old recievers that don't work
Horrible customer service.2 of my 4 receivers don’t work, they were used when I got them. Now they tell me I have to pay 79.99 for a tech to come out. Told them do just cancel my service. Said I have a contract for another year, and I will be charged 20.00 for each receiver... each month. If I don’t pay they have a copy of my credit card and they will put it on that. That’s fraud and an unauthorized transaction. Have had them for 7 years and pay 100.00 per month for crappy cable. And horrible customer service if I can even get thru on the line.

Cancellation charges!
Directv service did not work properly. After 2 service calls and the problem remained I canceled. Directv sent me a $282 cancellation charge. I refused to pay and they sent me to collections. Filed a complaint with my attorney general's office and the cancellation charges were dropped!!

I am so sick of them
DirecTV is a joke. I have been with DirecTV since January of 2008 and we have had nothing but bad reception the whole time. My son's box in his room causing problems for his TV and so I called for a tec to come out. When the tech called they wanted to try and have my troubleshoot over the phone because if the problem was my fault they are going to charge me. I asked the guy how would you know if it is my fault if you do not come out. He replied nothing. I am so sick of DirecTV that after my contract is up I will be cancelling and go back to Comcast. I would not suggest anyone use DirecTV.
