No service
When DVR started making noise, I knew the hard drive was about to fail. I ordered a replacement, and when it arrived, I could tell it was a refurbished model (it stated that on the box). I called to ask for a new one, since I already had my current one for years, and it was making noise. They sent me ANOTHER one, and now the satellite can't find a signal. I have been on the phone numerous times over the last three weeks, always with them suggesting the same stupid solutions. "unplug it an plug it back in..." "...disconnect the cables and connect them back"
I then made my last call to tell them to cancel my service and pick up all their crap - I'm going to cable. On this particular day, I miraculously received service again! Getting all channels! Well, this lasted two days . Now I am back to another service call, bad diagnostic tests, and now I qualify for a case manager who will call me back in another TWO HOURS to schedule a service call! REALLY? I need a CASE MANAGER to fix my reception?? and I have to WAIT a couple HOURS to schedule a service call??? How many layers of bueracracy do they HAVE??
Comcast cable never looked so good! They have one more chance, then the dish comes off the house and on to the ground!

No Service and False Charges
As a DirecTV customer I experienced terrible customer service and dishonest billing practices. I would gladly take DTV to small claims court but I don't have the time. This is what I would guess their actuaries decided is the most profitable approach to customer complaints; bank on that enough customers would rather accept poor service and unfair charges than go through the hassle of taking legal action.
My service stopped working. I spent two months calling and emailing the company to have it restored. I kept records of my emails and phone calls. The phone technicians were unable to help me or my call would be 'dropped'. Several times, I felt that I had been hung up on. My emails were answered with prompt and polite assurances that someone would call me to address the problem. No one ever called me. I requested that someone come to my home to restore service. I was promptly and politely promised that this would happen. No one ever came to my home.
I eventually called, determined to stay on hold and talk as long as it took to get my service restored or to schedule someone to come to my home. After a fruitless hour the Wimbledon match that I wanted to watch was about to start, I was so exasperated that I decided to cancel my service and go watch at a friend's place. A customer representative promptly and politely told me that I would receive a refund for my last 2 months of non-service and that my account would be closed without the usual $200 early cancellation fee. I asked several times, explicitly, that he make sure that I not be charged the cancellation fee. He assured me I would not be. He closed my account and refunded my credit card for 2 months of non-service. The next day DTV charged me the $200 cancellation fee.
I contacted DTV politely and explained my situation, including the various reference numbers for my complaints and for the refund I was issued. The responses that I received were at first somewhat dismissive and eventually became explicitly dismissive and rude. Their message was essentially, "Too bad, stop annoying us."
I told my credit card to stop payment on the DTV charges. DTV hired disreputable collection agencies to harass me for the payment. The actions of some such agencies included calling me between 5am and 6am. I have phone records of these phone calls. Eventually, the powers that be (more likely some algorithm) at DTV realized that I had no intention of giving into their unprofessional methods. DTV then did whatever it is that one does to hurt someone's credit score. However, they did not hurt my credit score they hurt the credit score of my former housemate, the one under whose name the account was started a year and a half earlier. He did not care to stand on principle and ended up paying them and I ended up paying him back.
DTV owes me $200, an apology and several frustrating hours of my life back. I do not believe that my treatment was a combination of accidents and circumstances. The systematic way that my requests to DTV were deflected and ignored makes me believe that it is a deliberate part of their corporate policy not to admit fault or issue refunds when they are in the wrong.

Double Billing
We have been a DirecTV customer for many years. We have an automatic monthly payment for the service taken from our credit card. We didn't discover until November of 2010 that two payments per month starting March 2010 have been charged to our credit card. We called DirecTV immediately upon becoming aware of the problem. They said that they needed proof because their records didn't show the double payment being taken. The payments were being taken on the 13th of each month and then again on the 30th. The erroneous payment is the 13th of the month. We provided them proof by mail and they have yet to respond. We put it into the hands of our credit card company who said that our complaint should be resolved within 30 days. This is January of 2011 and it has not been resolved. We called the credit card company to find out what the status was and we were told that four separate requests have been ignored by DirecTV. Nobody at DirecTV will help us with this problem. We are going to have to cancel both DirecTV and our credit card to stop this from continuing. Is there any help out there?

Intimidation and discrimination
I have posted on this site, and many others, before concerning an incident with a DirecTV employee (not a contractor). It related to sexual inappropriateness of the employee and my attempts to have this issue addressed. After submitting a copy of an article that was submitted to the "Letter to the Editor" of the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and the LA Times to the DirecTV "Office of the President" I was rewarded by having my service terminated WITHOUT notification. Obviously I am glad it was disconnected but would have preferred to have had it when I had asked and had some guarantee that I would not be charged for early disconnection. Neither were offered and the more I complain, the harder DirecTV attempts to intimidate and discriminate. When will we as a nation, founded on rebellion against tyrannical acts, stop putting our heads in the sand and take action against such corporations!? FYI, as a corporation DirecTV is legally defined as an "individual." That being the case, their actions actually would be diagnosed as anti-social psychopathic disorder (DSM IV) if they were an actual human. We lock-up individuals for similar diagnosis, yet we accept corporations and politicians with the same behavioral patterns. Come on, wake up people. Remember, lemmings don't have a right to complain!

Sports Package
We pay over $100.00 a month for your service--We always watch Tennessee Basketball Women and Men and Tennessee Football--that's why we bought the sports package--half the time we cannot get the Lady Vols Basketball. We always get it in the 600 chanels. Today it was on 722 and we did not purchase the 700 chanels. When we purchased the 600 sports chanels we expect to get what we pay for. You need to keep the sports programming on those channels. Don't want to go to cable --but will if you don't give us what we pay for. Please respond on what you plan to do. [email protected] and make it soon or we will change over. We are not HAPPY!! Thank you--Peter Towle

OKC HD Local Channels Not Carried
We live in SW Oklahoma and receive local Directv chanels from Oklahoma City (OKC). In late Nov 2010, I noticed that I was no longer receiving my local OKC chennels in HD. I had "bought" 3 of Directv's HD boxes, including DVR, and upgraded all of my TVs just so I could watch football games on the local channels and etc. in HD.
After lodging complaints with them, they sent me emails that Directv has deccided not to carry HD channel to any rual Oklahoma Customers. If I try to cancel service, they don't care and will cost me large termination fees.
Dish network does carry Local OKC in HD.

Wrongfully charged for pay per view
my husband and I had to get a new box for one of our tv's and directv sent us a bill for Pay per view movies that they said we ordered a year ago. Which we didn't. Previously we had 9 adult pay per view movies on our bill. I tried to talk to them and tell them that we didn't charge these movies but that was a total waste of time!
We just switched to Charter communications and sent our boxes in to directv. They now sent us another bill for pay per view movies that we didn't order. I had a password on my account so nobody else could order them. I think this is a scam and I will never get another satelite dish from them or any other satelite provider. After all of my troubles they keep calling me to come back...LOL!!!

Final Bill Payment
Letter I sent to Directv:
I recently moved and wanted to transfer my Directv account with me. Unfortunately, two of your technicians were unable to find signal at my new home. So, I called immediately to cancel my service with you, as directed by one of the technicians.
I just checked my bank account and found that your company had taken out my final bill of $125.66 which led me to have a $25.00 overdraft fee. I am furious over this. It's 2 days after Christmas! I was NOT told that my final bill would be automatically withdrawn from my account-even as I was cancelling it over the phone with your customer service rep. I was planning on sending a check to you today, as I just got paid. This is nothing short of legalized robbery. There was no warning or date of withdrawl. What if you did not have my account information on file from previous payments? This never would have happened.
I understand I owe you the final bill. But the $25.00 you caused me to have in overdraft fee's is unacceptable, and I want a refund. I am a struggling single parent and it is a lot of money for me.
I have been a happy customer up until this point. But I feel that you need to make this right with me. Word of mouth can be very powerful. Thank you for your time and quick response to this matter.
Well, needless to say, they called and said I was SOL and that they basically don not care. I should have read the "fine print" when I signed up for their service. I will bad mouth them for a very long time.

loss of local channel
Directv has announced that it may no longer carry my local chanel WTOC-TV in Savannah, GA starting January 1st. Even thought I live in South Carolina, I am from Savannah and like to keep up with the local happenings. The local channels are a part of my package. I have been a Directv customer for over 10 years. Please direct management to do whatever is necessary to continue having WTOC-TV as part of my package.
thanks.
