Credit Card Fraud
I recently discovered that Discount Books had been charging my credit card $19.95 for the past 12 months as I failed to look at my credit card bill carefully. I ordered a book through their ad at Amazon.com web site at $15.67 It cost me now $240.00 When I complained to my Credit Card Company, Discount Books came up with a fabricated contract dated most recently through a company called Verify Inc . When I called Verify Inc, they could not provide any info. On talking with them I got the impression they were relatives of Discount Books.
I requested Discover Card to ask for E-Mails they sent me in regards to my supposed membership that I never requested or received. I want to prove to Discover Card that their contract is a recent fabrication. Also wrote the President of Amazon.com informing him about my experience and sent him all the posted complaints. I asked that they not allow Discount Books to advertise and cheat Amazon customers again. I am awaiting response from Discover Card and Amazon,

Deceptive Trade Practices
Prospective buyers are lured with low book prices only to find out after making an online purchase that this vender deceptively enrolls the buyer into a "membership" plan that will continue to charge your credit card approximately $10 per month until you figure out what's going on and call them to cancel.

Hidden Memberschip Fee SCAM
When ordering a book from this company you automatically sign up for a member ship.
9, 95 a month.
When canceling the membership they'll wont give you a full refund.
>>>DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER<<<
After several phone calls I got all charges but one refunded.
So I'm still scammed for 9, 95 and I'm not giving up on it.
They claim that the website is clear but it's not,
it is misleading, false informing, keep calling and badmouthing this company till you have all of your money back.

unauthorized use
I purchased a book for $6.70 for my son's high school English Class off of a website I believe was sponsored by Amazon and it was a discount book store online back in August 2009 before school started. I was charged $6.79 on my Chase Bank Mastercard. Unwittingly I was charged for membership fee at $14.95 that I did not sign up for and so far at that rate, up through February 10th, 201o. I spoke to a customer service person from India who spoke with a thick accent and then I asked to speak to a manager who said he would only credit back to December 09 and for these two months January and February. I believe that the membership charge dropped to $9.95 as of today for the month of February.
I am very angry that a scam like this is allowed and that my Chase Mastercard said they cannot go back past 60 days to credit my account back.
I am thinking of closing my account very soon and plan to change credit cards and also never charge online for books again.
I used other book companies and they were not scamming people with
hidden charges.

Membership Scam
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY.
THEY WILL SCAM YOU!
I bought a $9 book in JANUARY 2009.
Automatically enrolled me into a phony membership - continued to charge me $19.95 for the next year.
It's a very sneaky process - just checking out to purchase your book will automatically enroll you.
I DID NOT receive any kind of "Welcome to Membership" e-mails, notices whatsoever. It's a complete SCAM.
Why did I not notice these charges on my credit card statement?
- They changed they're name a few times, so it would be more difficult to catch.
- They did not charge me on consistent billing cycles
- No e-mails, invoices EVER
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WILL LIKE TO PAY HUNDREDS IN FEES.
CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED.

unauthorized membership charge
Purchased a book from DBS but nowhere on their site did I see a membership fee or any other charge. I wasn't aware of this unauthorized charge until I received my credit card statement. I certainly would not have bought the book if I was aware of this ridiculous underhanded charge.

Unauthorized charges
Do not purchase anything from this company! I bought a book from them at a really low price. Two months later I was charged a fee of $19.95 for joining their discount book club. I did not authorize this charge and I didn't now anything about their book club. They would not issue a refund! I did cancel the membership that they did not authorize and received a confirmation. They are a rip off!

Unauthorized / Hidden Charge
Unfortunately, Discount Book Sale.com suckered me also. I should have realized the web site was shady when the first book you bought was incredibly cheep, then additional books where normal price. This tactic allows the web site to show on search engines with the "lowest price." When I received my VISA bill, there was an additional charge of $19.95 from Discount Book Sale. When I phoned their service representative, they stated that I did authorize the "membership fee" of $19.95 in the "terms and conditions" when going through the check out process. They would not refund this amount. I demanded a membership cancellation (this is important to give to your VISA card people). In reporting the web site to the VISA, they would not remove the charge since I voluntarily checked off the offer in the sale. SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! In reading other posts about Discount Book Sale.com it seems that this "membership fee" is not even the same amount to each customer. WOW! How do they get away with this !!!? >>> signed Lorna, Keyport, NJ.
