I ordered a book from Discount Book Sales. I have McAfee and saw some complaints, but as I encountered a click box that said NO THANKS and clicked it, I felt secure that perhaps those individuals had missed that. NOT TRUE. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY. I received an e-mail on 4/23/10 about joining Best Brand Values. I responded on 4/23/10 that I had not and not to charge me anything or I would dispute the charge with my credit card.
When I saw the book charge and $1 charge on my credit card, I submitted a support ticket asking that the $1.00 be refunded. I thought it was a pre-charge on credit card that mistakenly was charged. I received an e-mail back on 5/1/10 while I was out of town. I saw it on 5/2/10. I was told that I had joined for $1 for 7 days and then $9.95 after that and $19.95 thereafter. I was told I could not order a book without joining...ANOTHER RED FLAG THAT YOU WON'T READ WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO PURCHASE A BOOK. Told me I got an e-mail explaining that. I reread the e-mail I had responded to on 4/23/10 and buried at the very bottom of a long and tedious script e-mail was info that you shouldn't reply to that e-mail. Most others have that at the beginning of the e-mail, so you know the mailbox is not tended.
I check my credit card charges daily on Internet and everyone should. So I knew about the $1.00 charge quickly. I called today and learned that a $9.95 charge is pending. I sent them a support ticket that all would be disputed on credit card and that I would gladly send my unopened book back if I got a guarantee of the refund of my purchase price. You can get the book for a few $ more at other websites and not have all this consumer misleading practices.
I will dispute this with my credit card. I have copies of stuff. I finally used the Welcome E-mail to sign in with the # given and found a cancel membership. I got a cancellation #. We will see if that works. However, they have charged me $1. and a pending charge of $9.95. Due to the principal of the matter, I will dispute this with credit card and do everything I can to see that this company does not get this money. I have sent more support tickets today and will continue to work on them until this is resolved fairly. We need to take action and not let this go on, no matter if the cost is low. That is the only way we can stop this consumer Fraud
