Discover Card Reviews

Reported as Bankrupt
Early in 2011, I noticed that Discover Card had report my account and my wife's account on Experian and Transunion as "resolved in bankruptcy in 2007." They showed a $0 balance. I wrote a letter to the two credit reporting agencies and Transunion immediately removed the information. Experian verified the information as true and noted our credit reports as such. Since March, 2011, I have sent a series of letters to Experian and Discover card disputing this information. They continue to ignore my correspondence and just send me form letters. Due to the libelous nature of the damages the incorrect information is doing to our credit scores, I have stopped paying them. Damages caused have caused me more than the $1500 balance they claim I owe. I am seeking others with a similar complaint with Discover card.

Cant get a person on the phone to resolve
I have been a Sam's Discover card for over 5 years. I have never had an issues with balance or payments.
The last 4 charges to my card have been denied. I received one call saying to call security to review charges.
I have spent over 45 minutes on the phone, dialing thru the robo call process to get to a call center in the philliapines to then get cut off 3 times being transferred to somewhere...
My questions:
Why is every charge held ie declined til I review/clarify? Why have the card in the first place?
There should be a direct dial number to call and SPEAK TO A PERSON to resolve.
VERY frustrating to be cut off after 20 min of robo call program 3 TIMES and still not have resolved.
Please explain!

DISCOVER is like a SCAM ARTIST!
I have received an offer from the DISCOVER Card Services in February 2011. They offered 0% APR for 15 months, $0 set-up and maintenance fees for the life of the card. They also offered in their letter $100 reward as soon as I make $1, 000 in purchases within 3 months on my account. I called the DISCOVER on the 1 800 364 5188 from my Brooklyn home on March 31st and I made a contract with them. I got $2, 500 credit line. They tried to convince me to sign up for their payment protection plan. I refused them. A week later I got my card, set-up my online account and made $1, 000 in purchases. Weeks passed and when I checked my online account on May 16th I was unpleasantly surprised when I saw a $49 Annual Fee charge on my card. I called them in order to inquire about the charge and only the third customer representative, a supervisor, could answer to my questions. She told me that someone decided at the DISCOVER card services, after the contract was made over the phone on March 31st, that I'm ineligible for their offer and as a result -without my approval- they decided to alter the terms. They just “forgot” to let me know about the changes. I was told that I had to pay $49 Annual fee and I cannot get the $100 reward even though I made the $1, 000 in purchases and paid the balance. I had $0 debt. I was told that they could cancel the $49 Annual Fee if I close my account within a few days. This was a typical case of bait and switch! I was mad as hell! I was supposed to get $100 reward from them however they want me to pay for them $49 a year! How ridiculous is that? I cancelled my card in a heartbeat! I will never make another contract with them! How can someone trust a credit card service company if it alters the agreement without letting know the customer about the changes? DISCOVER Card Services is like a SCAM ARTIST. STAY AWAY FROM DISCOVER!

Unfounded, not proven allegations of money owed
Been receiving harrassing phones calls from a collection agency, CBCS accusing me of owing Discover Card a balance of $7266.00. The person that was being accused lived in TX. The problem, I've never been to nor have I ever lived in the state of TX. Finally, CBCS I hoped realized there was a serious mistake being made. Today, March 9th received a notice stipulating they stopped their collection procedures on this account and they were giving it back to Discover Card. They did however suggest that I submit three forms of identification to Discover. I say, let Discover Card contact me and send proof that this account is mine.I just they think because I'm a Sr Citizen easy prey, intimidated and manipulated in compliance with a fraudlent scheme to distord money. This is what it's esp when you do not owe what you are being accused of. Do figure.

Not consumer friendly - watch your fees!!!
I HATE DISCOVER AND ANYONE ASKS ME I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THEM. I had signed up for payment plan because I had gotten behind in my bills due to a divorce. They reduced the payment and reduced the interest. They did not tell me that they did not adjust the due date so each time I made a payment IT WAS LATE. They would toggle between charging me $25 and $39 in late fees. I did not catch this as I thought everything was okay, the payments were automatically deducted. MY FAULT. I INCURRED OVER $500 in fees they won't adjust.

account closure
In 2008 I wanted Discover to match a competitors rate. My cedit score is flawless and I never was late or had a missed payment. Discover would not match the interest rate of another company so I wanted to pay off my Discover Card. I called them and remitted payment BUT instead of it just being paid off they closed the account. Now if I want to use Discover I have to reapply and have a double impact on my credit score because it was harmed once by them closing the account and it would be harmed again by re-opening what would be looked at as an additional account.

Incorrect 5% bonus cash back calcuations
I was appalled to find out that the cash back bonus calculations of Discover is inaccurate. I signed up for the travel and restaurents 5% cash back bonus program for 2011 Jan-March season and noticed that they have not paid the 5% bonus for a $5000 airticket purchase I had made for my family. When I contacted the service person on chat, they casually mentioned that its my fault for not checking the cash back bonus all these days. Beware of this scam and dont trust Discover to provide your cash back accurately...

I have received numerous telephone calls from this company looking for someone...even after I had told them I am not that person and that they are calling the wrong number...

underhanded interest practice
Discover made a balance transfer offer to us at 0% interest for six months. Very nice. Took one for $1500 at Xmas time. The remaining balance was paid in full every month. I did not notice until this month that there had been an interest charge made on the new monthly balance, which as I said gets paid in full each month. Come to find out unless you pay off your entire balance, INCLUDING THE 0% balance transfer amount, they charge interest on EVERY new purchase from THE DAY IT IS MADE. My husband bought a new computer this past month so the balance was higher than normal, but we still were planning to pay the entire balance off, except for the 0% balance transfer. So what good is it to accept their 0% balance transfer??? So lucky me, I was getting 0% interest on $1500 but having to pay 12.9% interest on all my other charges of over $4, 000 with NO GRACE PERIOD. They do not warn you of this practice when they offer the balance transfer. It is only after the fact, in small print after interest has already been added to your statement. So even if you are able to pay off your purchase balance every month DO NOT ACCEPT A BALANCE TRANSFER FROM DISCOVER. I called to complain and the agent agreed that it was not a fair practice. I think she was surprised when I told her the details. But of course no offer to credit my account was made.

Refused to honor Servicemember's protection act
I am a reservist who was recalled to extended active duty. My status clearly qualifies me for protection under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. I sent Discover Card a copy of my orders and other documentation they requested within the required time period. In fact, I sent my orders on five separate occasions. Each time, I received a boilerplate response from Discover with an excuse why they did not have to comply with the law.

On two occasions, I received a response that my reserve service (which was active duty -- I worked alongside my regular Air Force counterparts and put myself in harm's way just like them) did not qualify, and/or that only my husband could get protection. I wrote back each time, explaining they were making an error in law, and providing my orders once again.

Now the statutory time period (180 days) for filing for protection has expired, and they are denying my request on that ground. When I called to explain that I had already sent my orders in a timely manner, I got connected with a very hostile customer service supervisor, who pretty much blew me off.

I give Discover Card a D- for how it deals with servicemembers. Discover -- shame on you for not following the law.
