Attempt to Obtain Credit Card information and expiration date
Tommy and Betty Whitmer were contacted by a company representative by name of John Cruz on June 4th (Thursday) or June 5th (Friday); Cruz told Mrs. Whitmer that she had won a $200.00 Gift Card through use of one of her credit cards at either WalMart or 'some other business.' Cruz would not specify WHICH credit card had been used that qualified Mrs. Whitmer, nor the number of the card.

Mrs. Whitmer informed Cruz that she would be informing the Franklin County Sheriff's Office of the contact, due to the nature of the information and requests; this was based on the request by Cruz for the "expiration date" only of one of Mrs. Whitmer's credit cards.

NOTE: This report was prepared for the Whitmers by Dick Alexander, Chief Deputy, Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Mount Vernon, Texas; I read the complaint to the Whitmers while they sat in my office, and they concurred with the contents of this complaint.

Cruz then told Mrs. Whitmer that 'this is not a scam, we are reputable', and proceeded to give the information on the company that is listed above. Cruz also told Mrs. Whitmer that there would have to be a 'verification of information' and Mrs. Whitmer was switched to a woman.

This second person (female) then made the request for Mrs. Whitmer's credit card number, Mrs. Whitmer told her she is not interested in the gift card offer and hung up on the subject.
