We have Dish Network television. We even pay a little extra insurance through them in case anything goes wrong with the DVR, being that they generally only last for a year to 18 months. We've learned that over the last five years of being their customer. Recently, we did have to ask for a DVR replacement. The old one was automatically and repeatedly shutting down on me. We received the new one and sent the old one back on time, so they were not supposed to charge me.
I checked my online statement today, and they charged me $300 for the old DVR. When I called to ask why, being that we did pay for the service plan, they replied that the old DVR had to be thrown away as a bio hazard. Confused, I asked why. They tried to say it had been "infested with insects", but they couldn't even tell me what kind of alleged insect.
We have lived in this house for ten years. Other than the occasional spider or house fly, we have never once had any type of infestation - not ever. I was outraged at this false accusation! Either it was a flat-out lie, which I strongly suspect, or they got my box confused with somebody else's.
We used to allow Dish Network to automatically deduct our monthly charges from our debit card, but not any more! Obviously, we feel they are completely untrustworthy and down-right slanderous. I am grieviously offended. We called and spoke to a supervisor, who agreed to drop the $300 charge. He seemed rather sensible and understood why we were so offended. However, the damage has already been done. I have paid good money to be slandered.
