Overcharge
In April 0f 2008 I responded to an Internet ad. offering Satellite service for $19.95 per month. I realise for this I only get the basic service, so when I received a phone call from a Dish Network rep. I told him MY requirements which were BBC/America, FSC channel and the ESPN channels, I didn't care about anything else. I was given a quote of $39.95 per month, which after I asked him to confirm, accepted. I foolishly gave him my credit card number to cover a $1 initial charge and agreed to installation 3 days later. The ad. also said there would be free gifts etc. free installation up to 3 rooms (I have one TV) but I have NEVER been offered any of the free gifts.
When the first bill came I found the charge has been raised to $54.95 per month, plus they needed two months in advance which being on a very low fixed income caused considerable hardship to me.
I have sent numerous letters to Dish Network at Denver, (copies retained) have had a few phone calls from them where they insist the rep. made an error, and the last call was terminated when I declined a $10 reduction for 10 months because then the new price would be applied again.
Because of the frustrations they have caused I wrote to a local newspaper, the St. Petersburg Times. where they have an Action column which deal with unscrupulous complaints of this nature. I have written to them 3 times now but it appears even they are too hesitant about dealing with a company as large as Dish Network.
They should not be allowed to get away with it and if there is any group action taken against Dish, they do have my 100% support.

Service / Rates
In December I ordered a service package from Dish. It was listed at 29.95 per month. I signed a two year contract. My first bill arrived and bottom line was that the rate was 39.95 I called to complain, they said there was a provision that they could raise the rate at anytime. I indicated I'd had the service for less that two months, and I ordered it because it was the least expensive available. The applied a $5 per month credit for 10 months, but that still leaves me paying $60 more than I was promised the first year, and $120 more in the second year. I checked the fine print in the agreement, and yes there is a clause that provides for increases, but this is about as misleading as you can get. There is a cancellation fee so I have no recourse.
Perhaps you can help the next customer from being duped. Thanks

Awful company
I reported on these unethical, scheming and ultimately illegal tactics on 11/17/2008 and am here again with an update.
Once the dish network people made it clear that they did not care if they practice ripoff tactics, and after finishing talking to Gilbert Lopez at corporate dish network offices in Colorado, I decided to try to protect myself and my paltry checking account.
The first thing I did once I was 'disconnected' from my conversation with Gilbert was to call my cu and cancel my debit card. So far, this has saved me from any unauthorized, stealing, ripoff withdrawals from my account. Thaaank you jeeezus!!
I have no idea how I can get out of the bogus contract the 'installers' in Mill Creek WA screwed me into. Gilbert sent me a copy of the 'contract' which was NOT a part of the original paperwork provided me by the Mill Creek, WA 'installers'. The 'copy' I received from Gilbert has my initials but I had no copy of the contract when the installation was 'executed'. He (Gilbert) simply added my initials to this 'contract' via electronic defacing. The 'installers' verbal assurances were nothing but a fart in the dust. Those guys should be extremely ashamed of themselves. Haven't we ALL had enough of the enron.
My only hope is that word travels well enough in 2009 to keep unsuspecting people like myself from being scammed into a bogus contract. Dish Network from what I see in the media is slowly 'passing away' Thaaank you jeeezus!! The bastards deserve to be refused by every major and not-so-major television network out there and I truly believe they will faaaaade away. The sooner the better.
DISH Network when you die I will piss on your grave.

Unauthorized billing
I can't remember the exact date, however, I was called by Dish Pronto with this unbelievable deal for Dish Network service. However, because of holes in the conversation, I canceled the scheduled install date, however, I was charged what was referred to as a non-refundable processing fee. Then I told them that I was charged that fee on the night of the cancellation and they then changed this to a cancellation fee. I was only charged once but they switched their rationale for charging me. When I called Dish Network, they said they couldn't see where I was charged, therefore, I needed to take that up with Dish Pronto or contact an attorney.

false information credit report
In 2005, I got divorced and cancelled my dish network account. I asked if I could return my receivers and they said no, I had to mail them in provided boxes. I did so and kept the tracking record. About a month later, they called to say they didn't get them. I told them the tracking number and then they said they did get them.
Several months (7 or 8) passed and a collection agency called me to tell I owed 200.00. They said that they got the receiver but they didn't match the numbers they had on file. THEIR PROLEM>
Now it is on my credit report ( I even paid the @200.00) so that it would get on my credit.
It is so wrong to do this to people.

Billing
I complained about my high bill for Satelite TV and was given the option to down grade service which basically cut the bill in half and since I called before the due date, the effective date I paid the bill was also early. The service was downgraded as we agreed to I have now recieved another bill, actually the same bill as before showing that the original bill is still intact and Dish is still trying to bill me the original bill. My bill shows that I paid $26.45 but they are still billing the original amount $45.45 even though the service was changed. The telephone number has been revised so now you only get a recording.

took money out of my wifes checking account without her approval
I opened an account with dish network in December 2007. This account is ONLY IN MY NAME. I lost my job in Oct. of last year and have been fighting unemployment since. So, needless to say, I have fallen behind in my payments on ALL my bills. My wife has a checking account(which does NOT have my name or authorization on it). She went to check her funds noticing there was something VERY wrong, to find out that dish network had taken EIGHT HUNDRED AND EIGHTY DOLLARS out of HER account WITHOUT HER APPROVAL OR HER EVEN KNOWING ABOUT IT. Now mind you, my wife's name, card number, NOTHING, is on MY contract with dish. ONLY MY SIGNATURE!!! Dish Network STOLE this money from HER to pay MY debt. This is to me Identity Theft and I want my wife to get compensation for her grief and anxiety of having HER money STOLEN from her. Now the bank has made up the money till this is all resolved, but then again, We feel they were also at fault wiring the money without my wife's permission. So, this is my and my wife's complaint and we would like for dish to compensate her for their negligence and disrespect. AGAIN, MY WIFE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY ACCOUNT TO DISH NETWORK. I have my original contract and bills sent to me ONLY IN MY NAME AND ACCOUNT. ALL THE WAY TILL THIS LAST DECEMBER WHEN DISH JUST DECIDED TO PUT HER NAME ON MY BILLS. NO AGREEMENT WITH ME OR HER. JUST ADDED HER TO IT. Who do they think they are just stealing money and adding people to MY ACCOUNT without my approval???
Thanks For Your Time!

Fraud and scam
Has anyone ever wondered why there are several hundred reports on this site with no replies from Dish Network? Perhaps it's because they have heard them all before and know that they're accurate. They told me over the phone just prior to getting an upgrade that as a valued customer, I'd only have to sign a one year contract but when the RUDE service man came out, he made my wife sign an 18 month contract.
The original upgrade was supposed to be to install HD for us here but once they got here, they said they couldn't hook it up but did make my wife sign a new contract for their version of an upgrade. We had no HD but were stuck with an 18 month worthless contract. The service guy was very, very rude and I had him come back while I was here. He gave me a hard time so I asked him to just leave the premises.
So, to sum things up, they didn't upgrade my service, they were rude to us, and didn't live up to their end of the contract. I'm now with ATT U-Verse and while it's not perfect, I do have HD, a nice DVR receiver, and no rude service people. Way to go, Dish Network. Keep it up and maybe you can alienate ALL of your customers.

POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES
DISH NETWORK KNOWING TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ELDERLY BY PROMISING THEM A GREAT DEAL ON SATELLITE TV AND THEN CHARGING THEM A LOT MORE MONEY THAN WAS AGREED UPON. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A SHAM, THESE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW A THING ABOUT HELPING THE CUSTOMERS OR ABOUT THE PRODUCT THE ARE REPRESENTING. THE TECHNICIANS THAT COME TO YOUR HOUSE TO INSTALL THIS "GREAT DEAL" SMELL LIKE THEY HAVEN'T HAD A BATH IN MONTHS AND IT TAKES DAYS TO GET THE SMELL OUT OF YOUR HOUSE

Fraudulent charges
I signed on to Dishnetwork through Homes Club for 2 yrs.in Albuquerque, NM. in Mar. 06. I paid a 1-time $24 fee with a Debit card. As of Dec 08, i found out they are debiting my account 19.23 for so-called Svc agreement. We never discussed a agreement of any sort for any reason except, with Dishnetwork. All billing for svc. comes from Dishnetwork.
Homes Club contends they are entitled because they talked to Dishnetwork. I called my bank and changed my bank account to stop the illegal transactions. I called Dishnetwork, they contend they have no knowledge of this company; although, they know who the company is. Dish told me it was a third party company but would investigate my claim. Dish never returns your call or emails unless you owe them money.
Dish referred me to some upper level mgr. who said he took down all the info on Homes Club but declined to say what Dish was going to do about it. To this day, Dish hasn't contacted me and are still doing business with this company. I see their name on the fliers dish circulates in this area.
