Dish Network Reviews

Horrible Customer Service
Ive simply been trying to set up a new account with Dish Network. I called (Dish Customer Service: 1-800-894-9131) today and was passed back and forth to 7 different technicians. Each tech told me they were transfering me because they were not qualified to help me. The last tech, named Bob, put me on hold for over 43 minutes. I hung up when I lost my patience and started getting a headache. The only reason I'm still trying to get Dish TV is because my apartment is already set up with a DVR. I just need to activate it. A good thing, I guess, is that every time I was passed on, the English accents got better! I'm seriously only going to call one more time and if I don't get what I want, I'm taking my business elsewhere. Even if that means I'll have to pay more.

unethical business practices
Trying to get accounting information and discontinuing service should not be so difficult...my father, the account holder, died recently, and I was trying to help my mom notify all vendors/service providers to change the name on the account, and in some instances, discontinue service. Pretty much every other company was helpful and reactive, but not Dish. First, they required a death certificate before they would even talk to me about ANY details on the account. When I finally had the death certificate in hand, I tried to call the phone number they provided for their "Dispute Resolutions Department" and was not able to get through...I probably tried 50 times over the course of a few days and it was busy EVERY single time...kind of like they don't want you to get through... I finally looked online and found the number to their corporate office and was able to get transferred (that number is 303-723-1000) and get the fax number to send the death certificate. To make a very long and painful story short, after numerous phone calls -- always to different people...could NEVER get the same person twice -- and the sending of 5 faxes over the course of a week, they finally said they received the fax. Anyway, they "confirmed" that one of the accounts would be discontinued but they needed me to fax yet another death certificate to discontinue service on the other account (there were two accounts in total, and inexplicably, each one needed it's own death certificate!!!).

We've dealt with telephone companies, banks, utilities and ALL of them were easy to work with. Some of them may have required death certificates, but all of them understood the gravity of the situation and were helpful and willing to work with me. But with Dish, I had phone numbers that didn't work (i.e. busy all the time), voicemails to them that were not returned, faxes that were "not received", and I could NEVER get a manager on the phone...basically, they put up roadblocks at each step, no doubt in the hope that I'd just give in and continue paying for the service.

Beware of Dish Network -- they are no better than a street-corner criminal.

Up Grade
Service Tech came in did an upgrade. it worked out great. After he left I looked and he never took the old receiver. and Never cut the pipe outside to the ground level. Now I was told by Alex at DishNetwork that I need to send receiver back. Fine but who pays the shipping? I asked about the post. I was told to call our local retailer.

I just said thanks and hung up the phone. Seems to me he should have taken the old receiver and cut the pole. As its ther supplies and they installed it a few years back.

Unauthorized Charges
I have been customer with dish network for over 6 years and I was never late on any of my payments. But in February 0f 2011, I went away out of the country for 3 months, and I cancelled my services from them and made a payment. I came back from my trip and they charged me for the time I was away when I had cancelled the service. My accout nuber with them is 8255909475781826. I call and spoke with 4 different people including 2 managers and their answer was I have to pay. I do not recomend DISH NETWORK services to any one. In the mean time I will continue to post the unauthorized charge they hit me with on every site I can until somebody fixes this rip off charge.

Letter to Dish Network
Here is what I sent to Dish Network because I am suffering from the Economic Crisis. I can no longer afford to live. This is what has become of our world today. Since everything seems to want to keep going up in price while there are no Jobs and people are suffering and can't even afford to eat. Dish Network has no sympathy.

Dear Dish Network,

Due to the economic crisis I no longer have any income. I am fixing to be homeless cause I can not afford my rent anymore. I don't even have the money right now to file bankruptcy. If I can find a way to borrow the money to file through Legal Aid then I will. I have no money to pay for satellite service which I receive through Dishnetwork. I no longer have a home phone for that has been disconnected. No Gas or Water. Electric is next. I have 5 days to be out of the home I rent. I am trying to find a shelter to stay at. I conntacted customer service over a month ago letting them know I would be losing my income and didn't know how I was going to afford all my bills plus rent. Suicide doesn't look to bad right now. So many others are suffering the same way. The United States of America is about to be no more because it is so broke and busted. More and More companies are going to lose money because people like me can not afford to pay for services from companies anymore. Sorry Dishnetwork. I really love Dish too. But, I am going through things that are beyond my control. So to save yourselves time. Please just go ahead and charge what you want to me. But you will not be getting any money. So go ahead turn it over to a collection agency. Good luck with that too. To save time you should just go ahead and put your charges on my credit report. Who cares anymore. Defeated in a world that is seeing its end. What are people to do. There is nothing more you can do to me. I am all ready dead. No Jobs. No money. No home. What is there to live for. Thanks

Raised Price - Will not provided copy of contract
They raised the price on me and stated that it was in the contract. I asked for a contract and they said they would send it to me but never did. I have asked them 3 times for the contract and still have not received it.

Improper Disconnection
I Christina Cain State that I called in January around the 17th or so. I called Dish Network and wanted my service disconnected and the Woman on the other end of the phone call stated that she was goin to diconnect my service but first offered me the Dish Movers Package. I declined that package and said I wanted my service disconnected because I was moveing and didnt know where or when I was goin to need the service again. She said OK Mam am sorry you are disconnecting your service and Please let us know at a later date when you would like the service again. So I asked Her how I was to get the Receivers back to Dish Network she said that she would send the Boxes out to my address PO Box 63 Deersville and yet to this day I have not received those boxes. I am claiming that I feel I should not have to pay for the Bill of $336.17 cause she told me that all I would have to pay for was my last Bill of $105.00 and I did so that. I have been a Dish Network for a long time now and this really has made me decide that I dont know if I want to go back to Dish Network or not.

Decptive Practices
I recently contacted DishNetwork to upgrade my satellite service. They advertised an upgrade to receive Sling adapter allowing their TV Everywhere service. I was told that I needed to replace my purchased receiver with one of their HD receivers in order to do the upgrade. They stated that once the swap out was done, I needed to call them back to get the Sling adapter. After the swap out, I called DishNetwork back to get the Sling adapter installed. They told me that they can longer do the Sling adapter for me because I already upgraded my receivers. I told them that I was told by DishNetwork that I was intructed to this by them in order to get the Sling. After speaking to several agents, they refuse to alow me to use my original equipment that I purchased, and am now stuck leasing a receiver that I didn't want. In addition, they installed a new satellite dish on my roof by drilling holes into my roof and through the shingles. I believe DishNetwork lied to me about upgrading my services allowing them to receive more payments for leasing equipment instead of using my own purchased receiver. I am now in the process of sending complaints to the BBB, FCC, FTC, and my local TV station that investigates consumer complaints. Acct #8272150500204562.
