Dish Network Reviews

Dishonest business practices!
07/06:Upgraded from standard definition to hi-def service.Contacted Dish for disposition of old SD receiver. Reply-would send return shipping kit. Kit never received, contacted Dish again-Reply-"Don't worry about it".Odd! Stored old SD receiver 3 months to assure wasn't charged for it, then discarded the receiver.

11/07: Canceled Dish contract. Dished informed me they would send shipping kit for return of HD receiver & LNB. I received the kit and returned the items. Two weeks later I received another kit, supposed it was a duplicate.

01/08: Received a Dish bill for $200; 1 LNB & 1 SD receiver!Contacted Dish. Their reply- No recourse, owed the bill. Contacted Dish again telling them they could check the bill of lading to prove I shipped the LNB. That charge was rescinded. I then was transferred to a supervisor then to an exec on the SD receiver charge. Her explanation: My conversations of 07/06 did not relieve me of liability. They assumed I was still using the old receiver. The second shipping kit I received in 11/07 was for the SD receiver. They were partially correct about their assumption; I used the old SD receiver 3 months for a boat anchor.

Unauthorized charges!
I had Dish Network installed last spring. I was given the usual promise of free installation, if I sent in the proper paperwork to the proper place within a specified time, and 3 months of my choice of movie channels. I missed the deadline on the installation rebate and just as they counted on I forgot to call to remove Starz after my trial period was up. I finally got around to canceling these channels and have been told there is a $5 fee of changes to the account unless it is for a upgrade or addition.

That is absurd!

Complaints not allowed!
I had a really bad experience with Dish when I moved my service to a new house. I won't go into the details, but it took 4 tries for them to get things working - for no good reason. I called to make sure that I would not be billed for the week that my service was unavailable. I was told that the bill would be the same as it is always is. I asked how this could be possible, and then the operator said that I wasn't charged for the move, so it all kind of worked out anyway! I pointed out that it was his company's policy to allow one free move a year, and I asked him to explain why that would have anything to do with paying for service that I did not receive. He had no reasonable explanation but I was going to be billed anyway. I then asked if I could be transferred to someone to register a complaint. He asked if everything was working properly at this point in time, and I said yes - it is now. Then he said "well there's really nothing to complain about then, right?". At that point, I hung up. After missing work so many days and going through so many calls to be told this by the agent on the phone is simply unbelievable. When a company does not even want to hear about a customer's negative experiences, I know there will be more of them to come. I know compared to others, I'm getting off easy, however, I'm very much looking forward to the end of my contract.

Too many lies, poor services, unclear charging!
Just want to tell the truth to be a reference. So far, I am still a dish network customer. Actually I am forced back to be their customer and have to call them every time I get the bill. I started dish on August 07. I asked them that I am going to move in several month and asked whether the "18 MONTH' contract is going to be problem if my future apartment doesn't allow dish. The sales person said no problem. If it is the case, they are going to terminate the contract. It was pretty OK for the first three month. Everything went pretty well.

Then I moved from one place to another. I called the dish people to install it for me. The technician came down here and said there was no place to install the dish because he said " the apartment manager is not going to allow drilling holes anywhere and I don't have a balcony". The technician reported the situation very honestly. After that, I called dish customer service to cancel it. The person told that they accepted this because the technician verified that. They are not going to charge me for cancellation fee and terminated the service right away. I was so happy with that and told the survey person that I would go back to dish whenever I got a chance again.

I was so wrong. I totally got played even I had some faults. When I look at my credit card bill, I found $500 charged by United Cable. Then I called them to ask what was the bill. They told me that 200 for equipment and 300 for early termination. I was so mad, I was told I was not going to be charged for termination. And you sales person said your company would help me to get out of the contract. I told them the sales person name, phone number, everything. He said that was a mistake. The sales person should have not said that. I asked what they should do to this kind of sales. That was purely a lie, they didn't help me get out of the contract, instead, they charged me more than anything. They said" we are sorry and we are not going to let that happen again". But it happened to me, who are going to give me my 500 back? Want to mention my monthly payment is 19.99 for the first 10 month.

Then I asked what I can do to get my money back. He said I just had to continue Dish and then they will refund the money to me. Ok, I said I am going to continue it right now and when would you refund my money. He said that he would call me in three days after my installation. I tried other option, install the dish to a house I do not live there at all. I pay all the money and will still be less than 500. He transfered me to a dish department. I told him the situation and I just want to continue my service at another location. He did so and set up the installation. Then I waited for a week after the installation. Nothing happened. I knew he wouldn't call me as I was told. I am busy too, I don't have time to deal with them all day long.

About one month later, I got my bill from dish. I got credit for 200, I was wondering what is that. I found that they first charged me for 200 and refund me back as credit. Totally confused. I went back the credit card statement, found they did charge me for that, the day I canceled my service. That is ridiculous. I was told that I was not going to be charged for that. I also told server friends how nice dish was.If I don't continue, I am going to be charged for $700. Besides, I got the first month bill of 81.19. I was cheated again!!! Then I called the custom service to ask what is happening with my account. She told me that Don't worry, you don't owe money, you have credit. This is ridiculous, I have credit, but that is the money I got charged first. I asked her to look at my bill, I don't understand why I have 200 credit and then after I month I only have 120 left. She told me that I canceled my service and blur blur, but just don't tell me why I got charged. Finally, she told me that my bill went up because I disconnect my service. First of all, I should be called disconnection because I was told so, they can find that on their notes. Second of all, I continue with my service, I should be continuing my contract and nothing changed. I didn't order anything new. First, she told me that I restart my contract. I said if I restart my contract, I should still have the same bill. Why does it go up? Then she changed her mind, I am continuing my contract. So everything should be still the same, Why does it go up? At 40 minutes, she said she is going to give me the same bill the month after next month. What about these two month? She said she could not do anything with that. She can only give back my residual credit in the account. That's my money, I don't need you give that back to me. I was tired. I didn't want to talk anymore after that, as long as everything can get back to normal even I can't see my TV.

For the next bill, I got some sort of new bills. 65.47 plus my normal bill without any discount!!! I asked why. I was told I have credits, I don't owe money, I don't need to call them. I read every bill in the statement, I was told that was all credit. I am not blind, that is not credit, that is my bill. The credit comes from the $200 cancellation fee charge. I spent 30 minutes to convince her that is my bill. At the same times, several other people were helping her about this, they told her that is credit and she told me that was credit. I thought that was echo. Finally, I told her I could hear your talk, If you don't understand, please give it to somebody else. Finally, after I went through every bill from the first month. She understands that is not a credit. She let me hold for 2 minutes, that was my third 2 minutes holding. When she came back, she told me that I was charged for local channels. I told her I never had a local, I never asked, never wanted, never planned. Why is it on my bill and so high. She told me she can take it off for next month but can not take off the one already billed. What, again? Then I asked I was told I am going to have the discount this month. Why I don't have it now. She said because I disconnected once and my credit went down. Ridiculous, all my fault. Ok, I said what is another bill, some kind of home protection plan, I don't want it, I didn't signed it up. Can I take it off. She told me that is free of charge. But it is not free for me, has been there for several month. I just want to take it off. She said it is automatically there and should be free, she is going to email the other department for that and it is going to be free next month. I am so tired, 1 hour 20 minutes. I stopped and planned to wait for next month bill.

I know this is a long story, just don't want people to make the same mistake.

Refunds not paid!
Just suffice to say these fraudsters should be sued to the full extent of the law. The BBB has looked at our case(among hundreds of others) dish accepted their approach and promised to repay us... they have started to do that but some of the fraudulent charges they made have been omitted and I cannot get then to answer my complaint.

STAY CLEAR! BE ADVISED, THEY WILL SWINDLE YOU WITH THEIR FREE OFFERS.

False asvdertising!
Said NOGGIN would be starting 24hours aday 7 days a week as of December 31,2007 Still not 24 hour noggin, I was told they were working on resolving the problem and that Dish would be running NOGGIN 24 hours a day as soon as the problem was solved. It is now Jan 14,2008 NOTHING has gotten done about it yet, and They never give me straight answers about the issue with running NOGGIN 24/7... VERY unprofessional. Very disappointing to my children, especially. I will be switching to another provider.

An UNHAPPY customer of DISH NETWORK.

Early cancellation fee!
In December 2006, I moved into a new home. I had always been a loyal Comcast Cable subscriber. But, at my new home, cable was not available. We decided to go with Dish Network. Everything was fine for the first 6 months. In June 2007, my monthly bill had increased $30. I called to inquire why the increase in the bill. Dish Network said that I had added additional receivers to my account. I had not ordered any additional receivers and had not activated anything new to my account. They apologized and said that they couldn't credit my account money for the additional charges for the receivers, but that I could have free Showtime. I told them that I didn't want ShowTime, I wanted the over charges taken off of my bill! Finally, they agreed to credit my account. In July, I had credits but the bill was still showing the additional receivers. They had me as having 7 receivers. I have a 3 bedroom house, each with a tv and a receiver and 1 receiver in the living room. Each month my bill continued to be at the $95.00 it was in June, instead of the $67.00 it had been. Finally, I decided I would terminate my service at the end of my year contract in December 2007. I called twice to have service disconnected. On the second call I was told that I would be charged an early cancellation fee for not having service for 1 year. I was told that my service began in June of 2007, when the additional receivers were added to my account. I asked to speak to a supervisor. After being on hold 2o minutes, a was transferred to a supervisor. I explained my whole story again. He said that the notes in the computer confirmed my story and previous complaints. But, I still had to pay the fee. He asked me who Jeffery Holmes was. I said I don't know a J.H. and basically called me a liar. He said that I must have bought the additional receivers from J.H. and activated them to my account! I said I didn't activate anything to my account, Dish Network did!!! He told me that my account was linked to J.H.'s account and that his account was now in collections. I asked to speak to HIS supervisor. He said that I could but he would tell me the same thing-that I would have to pay the early cancellation fee. He also said that if I had a dispute, I should send it in in writing. This supervisor was named "Tyler" with an ID 100149288. After putting me on hold for 45 minutes, he said that he was transferring me to the supervisor and I was abruptly disconnected!!! I was furious. I call again, reaching yet another call center in different state. I immediately asked for a supervisor. I get "Bethany" ID 100272549. I went through my story again. She confirmed my story with notes in the computer and said that she would transfer my account to the "escalations department" and I would receive a call in 2-3 business days. She also promised that she would personally give a call back on the third day. The third day came and no call!!! I called back today, to yet another call center and state and was told that it would take 7-10 days for someone from the escalations dept. to get in touch with me!!! The early cancellation fee is $62.00. I have $62.00 and could easily pay the bill. But, it's MY $62.00 and I'm not paying for their mistake!!! I feel that I am constantly getting a run around. I have received poor customer service for over 6 months! BEWARE AND STAY AWAY FROM DISH NETWORK!!! As a side note, they have sent me boxes to return my receivers. It is funny that they only sent 4 boxes (for my original and only receivers) although they keep insisting that I have additional receivers belonging to Jeffrey Holems.

Dishonest and poor service!
I only installed Dish network a week ago and have had a lot of problems. Was told I would get some regional sports networks but they didn't come in so I called, spent 10 hours + on phone with different technical support people, everyone kept saying I should get these channels, restarting, unplugging and having both my land line and my cell phone batteries die out while I was on one of the multiple holds.. finally I was told that I don't get ANY regional sports network.

Why couldn't the first person tell me that? Finally I spoke to a supervisor and downgraded my package since I only upgraded to get these channels. This was 2 days after it was installed and low and behold I get my bill and it still has the more expensive package.

Oh and I'm being charged 10 bucks a month for programming access fee because the guy didn't hook up my phone line and told me to get a wireless phone sender, which would have cost over $100. I installed the phone lines myself and told dish this, but again, still showed up on my first bill.

There customer service is terrible, but after all this, I am using their on line chat because at least this way I can copy down everything they have been telling me. Every time I call in, it's a different person with different information.

I feel cheated and would return to cable had I not already switched my internet service from cable to DSL already... Guess who is NOT going to continue with their service after 18 months!

Fraudulent company!
When I ordered the dish and although I dialed the number listed on the DISH website, it redirected me to an outside dealer. When this happens you are charged a one time EG Processing Fee of $19.99. So make sure before getting the DISH that you are speaking w/ a true DISH rep. If I had been lucky, and auto connected w/ a true DISH rep, I wouldn't have been charged $19.99. When I decided not to have my dish installed, no-one could tell me who, how or when I would get my $19.99 refunded. As a mater of fact, he (a true dish network rep.) became so rattled, he disconnect our phone call... but not before I could get his rep # U10.

Thanks For Nothing Dish!

Un-warranted charges
We called Dish Network to report our receiver was causing lines across our TV SCREEN. THEY WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEND US ANOTHER RECEIVER AND TOLD US TO BOX UP OUR OLD ONE AND SEND IT BACK TO THEM IN THE BOX THAT THE ONE THAT THEY SENT US CAME IN AND SEND IT BACK TO THEM. THEY STATE THAT THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE. We were happy to receive such great service. We received the receiver and found that it was used. No problem because it fixed our problem. We sent the old receiver back and I thought that this was the end of this. Wrong. On the next bill there was a charge of $99.95 for a damaged receiver. When we questioned this charge they said that they had received the old receiver with physical damage. We told the gentleman on the phone that it had no physical damage before it was shipped and he agreed it could have happened in shipping and the charge would be removed from our bill WRONG. IT APPEARED ON THE NEXT STATEMENT WITH $5.00 LATE CHARGE. We were concerned so we called them again this time they were adamant that we would pay the charge and there was no way that it would be reversed. We would have to take it up with UPS. i ASKED IF THERE WAS SOMEWAY THAT I COULD SAFE THE DAMAGE AND THEY SAID THAT THE RECEIVER WAS gone or destroyed, I ASKED THEM HOW I COULD BE SURE THAT THERE WAS DAMAGE THAT AT THIS POINT I WASN'T SURE THERE WAS DAMAGE. I never fully understood the answer to this. The bottom line is that we are also paying a $5.00 charge per month for coverage in case of damage to our receiver. I was told that the charges are not going to be reversed and that the only thing I could do was try to get something out of ups.
