Dish Network Reviews

charges
On 12/27/2010 I requested a downgrade on the billing at our summer place as we would not be there after Xmas.
Spoke to a young man named "Norman" who gave me his number(915-298-5498). He said that he had put through
my requests to lower our programming to "basic" which would be $19.99 per mo. and to debit our checking for the bills.
We have just returned home from being out of town since that request was made to find almost $600 in bills on this
acct. None of the requests were put through and I am told that the best that can be done is a one month refund.

This totally looks like a scam to me... Sincerely, Karen Hieronymus

Selling practices
Sales reps called numerous times trying to start service for us. We refused many times - finally we were convinced with the caveat that should anything go wrong with our home situation and we'd have to move out of our home, we would be able to terminate the contract and not be held liable for it.

During the very same time that the service was installed - I learned that I would be losing my job and my life basically turned upside-down. My husband was home when the technician came and signed the paperwork without properly reviewing (totally our fault). Given my own situation - I also was not in any proper emotional state of mind to review this documentation and i spent the next few months searching for employment. In August, I found employment in another state and promptly moved away. My family remained in our home another two months and then attempted to terminate dish network service. It was THEN brought to our attention that we signed a one year agreement when the technician came to our home for the installation. We were therefore held liable for the fees to terminate this contract. We told the company representative that we refuse to pay and should they take money from us, we would file all necessary complaints.,

Well, the time has now come. Dish network has taken $277 from our Checking Account and we did not authorize. From the beginning, their sales reps deceived us by letting us believe that we would not be subjected to fees should a termination of contract be necessary. I am fed up with this type of sales practices.

The sales reps are Indian and are targeting other Indian customers. They are convincing potential customers who may not UNDERSTAND the consequences of getting Dish network services. The sales reps do not disclose all the details about the contracts. They are only interested in making a sale. i have read about numerous class action suits against Dish network. Unfortunately $277 is not enough for me to find a lawyer and begin one of my own. I only can do one thing - BEG the American Public NOT To obtain services from Dish network.

Dish network's sales practices are fraudulent and discriminatory in nature.

$24.99 Special for the first year with 24 month commitment. NOT SO!
DO NOT BE SUCKERED into the 24 month "special" offering you $24.99 per month for the first 12 months. IT IS NOT SO. We unfortunately did. What happened is we started service in May 2010 and were charged the $24.99 per month up until February 2011 and then they jacked it up $5.00 more per month before out 12 month offer was over.

When we called in they told us sorry we change up our rates every February regardless. So the contracted $24.99 per month you thought you were getting they said "is just a promotional offering. Not contracted." Read the very fine print which is located in the back of your equipment book they give you at the time of installation. We didn't even know this existed until all of this happened. I guess it could have been worse. We could have started in November and then had the increase in February. This is SO VERY WRONG and Dish does other bad things as well. We had a service plan in lieu of the DVR for 6 months. Just because you have a service plan doesn't mean squat. They still charge you if you encounter a problem with the equipment! We had faulty electronics in the Dish that went bad the third month we had it and they CHARGED us for it anyway. Even with having a service contract. Bottom line STAY AWAY from DISH NETWORK

service
I will never have Dish Network again and would strongly encourage everyone else to avoid them like the plague! In the 6 months I have had dish network, they have dropped channels twice and raised my bill by $12 dollars even though I signed a 2 year contract with them. Don't even get me started on the special they are running right now with the "free" starz channels. I call to complain about the increase in my bill and finally convince them to put it back to where it was and with in an hour the "free" starz channels were gone!! FREE MY ASS! I wish everyone else would realize they are getting scammed by Dish. I have also been on the phone with them this evening 6 time because of a complaint and been hung up on 5 times by their "awesome" customer service jerks!! DON'T EVER SIGN UP THIS THESE LIARS!!!

Charged us for equipment that didn't work half the time
Dish Network gave us new equipment that cost $300. However, in less than 3 months it was out dated. Then they charged us again -- another $200 -- for equipment that didn't work half the time.

I can't see why we let these companies get away with that and they can charge us interest on our bill. But we can't get a refund or credit for faulty equipment.

Multiple issues: bad charge, switch programming
I decided to cancel the service the next day after my two years contract with dish. The reasons are simplely:
1. Signed up DishHD Bronz with Disney Channel included. About a year later, Disney Channel disappeared without any notice from Dish; I called them and they said Disney discontinued their contract.(But notice they do offer in different package) But they told me they can not do anything with it but I still have to fullfil my part of contract.
2. I finally connect my internet to the receiver after Dish service agent told me with which they will waive my $5 fee with auto payment. But they advice me to call back once connection is good. I called back they verifed the connection and told me everything else they will take care of. About few days back, I finally looked at my online statement and found that the charges are still there over the last 8 months. I called the customer service, they told me they can not return the connection fee due to the length of the issue ("It is not just about two or three months...")... then I decide to schedule my cancellation...the guy told me the charges are V.A.L.I.D due to they require to be phone line. No consistency here. This company will go down if they keep doing this to consumers...they do deserve another class action lawsuite.
I will never use their service again ever!!! Please inform me if any of our fellow consumers finds out there is one lawsuite I will sign up.

Bad customer service, un-notified billing changes... and more
I signed up for 24.99 a month, which was good, and free HBO and Showtime for 3 months with the paperless billing. well they credited me 2 times in one bill for the HBO pack, and so the 3rd month came around and i called to cancel them since they weren't free anymore, and i had to pay $25 for that month. once you get the statement you cant make adjustments. well if i knew they were going to screw me i would have called before i got the statement. then they jacked the price up $5 per month and didn't notify me, and i was supposed to be getting a bill for about $31 a month. well now it is $43??? i don't get it either, that is a little more than $5. Oh that's right they added some service charge... that i didn't ask for and are now charging me $6 a month for that. They just keep on changing my bill every month, and i have had it. but in order to get rid of their asses i have to pay $332... right. I guess since im not trying to ruin my credit i will just have to bend over and take it like a champ. but i am telling everyone i know they are a bunch of scamming ass, bitches. I would much rather recommend Direct TV, they may cost a little more, but you get more channels, and their customer service isn't snotty, and overpaid for being a bitch.

Billing and service
This company advertises their great service and the most channels for your money. What they don't tell you is your 20 dollars a month for the first 12 months is going to turn into 60 dollars a month with all of these crazy "state taxes" that don't exist and fraudulent charges. Not to mention I am about to lose my local news channels because they cant negotiate a damned contract. These people don't care about their customers, they care about the money in their pocket. They installed my dish and it worked great for the first 9 months then I canceled my service plan because for some reason the price of my bill kept going up and up from the original 25$ a month (I have two TV's and 2 DVR's ). So i canceled my service plan and thats when everything starts going wrong... I lose my Television if the sky gets dark, Rain... No tv... Snow.. .nope... What do you think they want when you call them to come out to re-peak the dish 50...60...70 dollars. I would be better off going and buying an acutrac and peaking it myself. I wanted to upgrade my service to HD after being with them for a year... Nope i would have to pay full price for a new install and new recivers and a new dish. WTF THIS COMPANY SUCKS DONT GET DISH NETWORK. And If a Dish rep reads this please e-mail me cause i will gladly tell everyone who works for your company where to go.. After my contract is up( i'm counting the days until September 31st) I will never use your sevice again

Billing
Do not sign up for a contract with Dish Network. I did and my bill has gone up two times in the first year of my two year contract. The first time was for a service plan fee of $6.00 that was free for the first six months and the second was a $5.00 rate increase (without warning). The second year of my contract the bill is going to increase another $15.00 for a credit I got for the first year of service. A total of $21 monthly increase at half way through my contract. This was a huge mistake. You are forced to be a customer for two years and your bill can go up without warning at any time during those two years.

Rate Increase
Although I was promissed the same rate for the next 18 months, Dish Network decided to increase my bill by charging me $5.00 more for my HD 120 package beginning March 2011.

My call to Dish was met with 3 representatives happy to remove the fee and charge me the original agreed price. I found this unacceptable since thousands of Dish customers will simply pay by not realizing the increase, or not bothering to complain.

This is poor business and I have chose not to do business with companies that manuever in these ways.

Why would a company throw away loyal customers, well as it turns out Dish Network grew its revenue by over 8% and lost a record 159, 000 net customers during the 4th quarter of 2010.

Since agreeing to acquire bankrupt DBSD for nearly 1 billion dollars it looks like Dish Network is aggressively pursuing this revenue model of increasing revenue by increasing rates while at the same time decreasing its customer base through another huge price increase March 2011.
