Fraudulent Advertising
We recently had a lot of silver and a few items of gold jewellery that were taking up space in our house. The silver was actually in display cases and each case had the identical silver items. We decided to just sell them for their silver value alone. We sent the first packet from one display case to Birks Gold and Silver Exchange. They returned a cheque, which was a little less than we thought it would be $110.40 – but still a fair amount (when you consider that they pay for the assaying, express post, and are after all in the market to make money). Their breakdown of the amount I received was as follows:
Silver:
7 neck, 2 bracelet, 4 bangles, 15 rings, 5 pr earr
SilverCGS
Silver / CGS
460.97
2010/03/29
$0.23
$106.02

sent the exact same package of silver pieces in weight and actual items to dollars4gold and the jewellery pieces were as follows:
15- .925 rings, 2 - .925 bracelets, 4 - .925 bangles, 5 pairs of .925 earrings, and 7 - .925 necklaces. (exactly the same pieces I sent to Birks Gold and Silver Exchange).

We weighed each silver pouch that we sent and both were identical. The cheque I received from dollars4gold was for $28.00 – which was a total insult to our intelligence. And when we called the their hotline, they also tried to tell us that we had sent them silver that was silverplated and/or less than the .925/Mex that was stamped on each piece. We are now in the process of trying to get our package back from them and will be sending their cheque back either Fedex or eXpress Post. To get our jewellery back by expedited post we have to enclose a $10.00 money order.

Here is a link to my local news station, where I went on camera with my story: (paste into your browser address bar and click on gold exchanging video)

Dollars4gold does not give you a breakdwown of what your items were valued at, but Birks does. We feel that dollars4gold is a total scam, and would be surprised to actually have our gold/silver returned to us.

They are ripping people off
I sent them an identical bag of silver jewellery that I had sent to Birks Gold & Silver Exchange. Birks paid me $106 just for the silver. In the shipment that I sent to dollars4gold.ca I included some extra gold - their cheque was for $28.40 for the whole lot. The tracking number they gave me was bogus (23 characters as opposed to 16 that Canada Post issues). Their so-called "Expedited Post" envelope took from April 14 to April 23rd to arrive. Not what Canada Post advertises. Their explanation of why I couldn't track it was that CP never scanned it in - yeh right. When I got their cheque I immediately (well maybe after I had cooled down for half an hour) and said I would be returning the cheque. They tried to tell me that some of my items were plated and not sterling silver - but Birks never had that complaint for the identical package! They offered to re-assay it, but I told them to just send it back to me. I sent them their cheque back by signatory express post and my tracking number said it was received today (May 5th). I expect to have my package back in the very near future, because I included a money order for expedited post. I can only hope that I get it back at all, and if I do - that it was the items I originally sent!

DOLLARS FOR YOUR GOLD
My wife sent in some jewellry to help pay for some doctor's bills. The jewellry was appraised at $3, 000. She received a cheque for $30! These people are dishonest and unethical.
We returned the cheque and requested our gold back and as I have found out recently, we got the same answer as many other people, the gold had been refined dispite the fact we advised them by phone and by registered letter.
DON'T TRUST DOLLAR4GOLD. COMMON SENSE SAYS DONT SEND YOUR VALUABLES TO ANYONE NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY!

Rip off
We submitted an almost 1/2 ounce of 24 carrot gold ring which a jeweler previously offered me $365 CAD. Dollars4gold.ca came back with a $46 offer, when I went to the website to decline, it automatically selected "yes" to accept. I luckily got through to tell them to hold it. After complaining, they offered $126. When I asked for it back they told me I had to send them a cheque for $10. It's not a lot, but they certainly don't mention that part on their commercials - very misleading when they say, "We'll return your gold to you." No mention of a fee. I wonder how many people are taken advantage of. I luckily got my ring back and sold it for $407 CAD at a local store. STAY away from these jerks - publicaly traded company... don't fall for that line like I did.
