250 rip off
July 21, 2009
Phoney Referral Fee
I bought a car from Drive Time, to be fair I haven't had any signigficant problems with the car but they promise you that if you refer someone that buys a car they will give you $250 for the referral. It has been almost year of going in circles with them and they still have not given me my $250. We received a call today (July 21, 2009, we did the referral in October 2008)that the reason we did not the referral is because we filed a Bankruptcy in May of 2009. Nowhere in our contract does it say that BK would be the reason for the denial but they say it is a policy. One by the way is not written down anywhere. They say we can file a complaint to their bosses but their is nothing that they can do. We should have received the referral fee long before we filed BK so why does it matter now. They will do anything to get out of paying what is due.

Over Price Vehicles & Horrible Cusotmer Service
I purchased a 2001 Buick Le Sabre from Drive Time in 2006.
The Blue Book price was round about $10, 000 at that time.
The rip off artist over charged me $16, 000: the car was $26, 000.
making payments on time and when I was unable to I always called and let them know the date I was coming in.
Harrassing family members and acquaintances, car was a recall vehicle : constantly failing brakes, bad transmission, faulty oil line, & etc:
To make a long story short; I allowed them to take the headache back!
I sincerely hope a Class Action Law Suit is in their near future, the charlatans should be ran out of business.
Who or where do report the thieves?
Can the DMV or the Government do anything about them.
Drive Time's purpose is to mess up your credit and your relationship with your loved ones and friends

THEY ARE A RIP OFF
Hey, I totally agree with every single comment. Drive Time is a total rip off. I only went with them because my boyfriend got hit with head on collision in my car and it was totalled. I needed a car right then after the insurance claim was finished. So we were driving down the road and seen the Drive Time sign. We went by and the car salesman lady was really nice. She was seeing what she could do. She was willing to work with me. I had the car since March 2008, and I was on time every single time. They make me pay every other week and sometimes depending on the months that may have 5 instead of 4 weeks thats 3 payments a total of $600 in one month is really not worth it for a 05 Chevy Impala. I am so disgusted in this company and they are a freaking RIPOFF. I was on time for almost a year straight, well around Christmas time 2008 when the economy and stuff was freaking riduclous, my boyfriend got laid off of his job so then our income was only comming from my work. They cut our OT and I was only getting 40 hours a week, let me tell you when you have rent, car insurance, food, utility bills and such I had more balances of my bills than I made. I started being like a week late each time a payment was due but I always paid on no later than a week later. When the payments were due on Sat Sun they are close, they would blow my phone up on Monday morning harrassing me. They wouldnt work me me, then the water pump and some manafold thang went bad. They wouldnt replace it and told me no matter what happens to my car I still have to be on time. What kind of SH** it that and they are making me pay like 9, 000 for Interested. Thats ridculous. Anyways, I talked to them a few times about placing me on a monthly plan. They said NO they can not do that. They want their money but will not work with you at all. I tried talking to the manager and told him what was going on. I told him I can not afford paying every other week I needed it monthly because this month thats three payments, he had the nerve to say Im sorry here at Drive Time Corporation we do not do that. Then said I dont see if you can not pay every other week what makes you think you can pay every month, I told him it would be less money and sometimes I might have more money one week than the other, then the BASTARD said well I advise you to manage your money and balance our your budjet a little better. This is just ridculous. Please email me at [email protected], IF ANYONE KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO PLEASE...

Corrupt Dealership
I'm writing to say that I absolutely cannot understand why Drive Time Company has not been shut down by our federal government for practicing consumer fraud. Every day I've read complaints from hundreds of consumers and yet and still they are permitted to continue their dishonest and unethical business practices.
Why has the FBI not prosecuted them under RICO Law which is the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt organizations, especially since they are considered to be guilty of predatory lending.
This just further confirms that companies are allowed to sell lemon cars to the customers and there are no repercusions for this selling practice. I have not been able to find any attorney to handle my case, it seems that they are paying everyone off, including the media.
Of course, all dogs do have their day, it is all just a matter of time before their distasteful and relentless tactics catch up with them!

Harrassing Practices and Deceit
I purchased my car on March 13, 2009 and was late getting the payment by 1Day (my check didn't hit my hand until late Friday afternoon and my bank closes at 4:00) !! They sent my employer another verification of employment. Then contacted my business associates, family and fiance for address verification. All for one day!! Nevermind the car doesn't accelerate properly, needs new brake pads and is now making noises I've never heard before. WoW, I haven't had it a month, yet!! I am taking it to my long time mechanic because at this point I know they will make me pay either way. This is not an ethical company..Don't bother doing business with them.

Scam Company
We came to Florida from Maryland. Had only been here a couple of months. Was worried about being scammed, but felt I was just over reacting due to being from a more rural area. There everybody knowns everybody so if you're not reputable, you don't survive. Drive Time was was recommended by another car dealership. Salesman friendly, won our trust. I explained that we just came off a bankruptcy and didn't want to get in over our heads so we needed a car with a payment under $200. He said "no problem. Anything on the lot under $400." There were a lot of nice cars, but this car was for work purposes for my husband and we wanted an older car with no frills-crank, no cruise, etc. We found one, but the saleman kept wanting us to get a newer, nicer, fully loaded car. I kept saying "we can't afford it. I need something with a payment under $200.00 per month. We found a 2002 hyundai, crank windows, no cruise, etc. I asked why the price was so high, about 12000.00 on a car that nada listed for around $5000-6000, and the salesman said "Oh that's not really what you pay. It will all be explained." ok we said. After all they are the professionals. I don't know everything about eveything. They have to be laws that protect the consumer. Drivetime completed the deal with us in the evening when few people were around and they were about ready to close-8:55pm. They spent about 5 minutes reviewing paperwork and we were out of there. On the way home, something bothered me. While reviewing the paperwork, the man quickly said the payment was $196.38 bi-weekly. There was a lot of paperwork to go through and they were trying to hurry so they could close, so I chalked it up to just a mistake in wording. I thought he just misspoke and what he really meant was monthly. I thought this because of him hurrying through things and also because I am over 50 years old and have bought other cars and have never bought a car where you make a bi-weekly payment. So I knew he misspoke or I missheard. At home I looked at the paperwork more closely. It WAS $196.38 bi-weekly. I flipped, but what could I do. I signed a paper saying I would pay for it and I traded in my van, my only other means of transportation. I felt I was stuck. I tried making the payments. I was late a couple of time and within 1 day of being late I would receive a call threatening repossession. Then after 3 months of buying the car it woudn't start. We went to the dealership. First they said they would replace the battery. Then they said no because maybe we left the lights on and caused the battery to die. If that were the case, the battery could be recharged. Then they said buy a battery and they would pay for it. Then they said no they wouldn't. This battery was totally dead. We had it checked at an autozone where we finally had to go buy a new battery. Next the rear defroster stopped working. Drivetime wouldn't pay for that because the warranty didn't cover replacing windows. Then the car wouldn't take gas right. While pumping, you'd get a few cents of gas in and then the pump would shut off like the car was full. It took forever to fill the gas tank. Each time we went back to Drivetime and got the same response. Oh once again they told us to get the gas problem fixed and they would pay, we said forget it. We didn't have the money and we didn't trust them to pay us back. During this time my husband's hours at work became less and less. Rather than risk missing payments, we decided to just give the car back and call it even. The car was collateral against the loan and since we could no longer afford to make payments on the loan, we wanted to save our credit by giving the collateral back. We took the car back, explained that even though we were quite explicit about what we could afford, less than $200 per month payment, what we ended up with was a car that was costing $400 per month and some months close to $600 per month and how we just couldn't continue to make payments on the car. We also reviewed the number of things wrong with the car and how we had not received any help from Drivetime with those problems. Now after all our efforts to keep our credit under control, we are facing bad credit due to Drivetime having reported us to the credit bureau for non-payment on the loan even though we gave back the car back within 5 months of purchase. I don't understand how they can have their collateral back AND report us for bad credit. Count us in on any legal action against Drivetime. And can anyone tell me how to get this off my credit.

Car Problems
I purchased a car from Drive Time on Oct. 22, 2007. Not even 3 months into having the car it started to run hot. Then their was oil mixed with the coolant. I called the Drive Time I purchased the car from and they gave me the number to customer service. They sent me to their repair shop (which the car couldn't even make it to). They told me the car needed almost $1000 in repairs and Drive Time wouldn't cover it. Now I was pissed off! Not only was I paying a $350 car payment, but they wanted me to pay this also. The manager told me that out of their kindness they would pay some of the expense (not all). I ended up paying around $400. The problems the car had were major and couldn't have happened in less than 3 months. Now not even a year later, I am experiencing the same problems with the car. I am not paying ANYTHING! I am contacting a lawyer and getting out of this contract. They are a rip-off! I am paying almost 3 times what the car is worth. If anyone is starting a petition against them, let me know. I should have listened to that voice in my head telling me to walk away from that dealership.

Horrible Warranty
The car salesmen are very friendly, however the warranty is very LIMITED. You have to pay a $40 diagnostic test, for them to tell that item is not covered. I just purchased a vehicle from them in January and had to get an oil change less than a month later. I also need an alignment, and various flushes plus anything else is discovered. Ask plenty of questions and do your research.

Vehicles sold by them
I Mickey L. Lattimore went to the Drive Time Automobile on Memorial Drive, Stn. Mtn. Ga. On 2/20/2008 to purchase a vehicle. I was introduce to a sales rep(name goes here) who allowed me to look at the vehicles on the lot. I chose a Kia Otima LX 2004. The Sales Rep. had me fill out the necessary paperwork, while I completed the paperwork, the sale rep ran my credit and stated they could help me get into the vehicle which I had choosen for $1200.00 down. I informed the sales rep. I only had at that time a total of $200.00. The Sales Rep stated you can put the vehicle on lay-o-away so I made a down deposit of $200.00 on a 2004 Kia Optima LX that had about 52, 000 miles.
While two weeks past, I went to Drive Time and made another payment of $500.00 on the vehicle I had on lay-away, leaving a balance of $500 left. Well the sales rep stated they had the same/similar vehicle with less mileage about 48, 000 and I could take it that day for the $700.00 I had already applied to my original Kia which I had choose. Red Flags immediately went up. I asked what’s wrong with it and of course they would say nothing.
Since driving the vehicle off of drive time’s lot on March 15, 2008, I’ve had nothing but problems with this vehicle. I’ve had to replace the front brakes, the power steering pressure hose went out, the driver’s side door lock locks itself back when you unlock it with the key and attempt to open the door using the handle. The passenger window doesn’t let up correctly it’s off track. I’ve had to replace the battery, I have also had to replace the coil and spark plugs.
