No heat
My friends gas recently was turned off in February in Michigan. A 2 year old and a disabled man along with the rest of the family.The family finally found help after a few days of frezing to pay the bill in full on a Friday, but DTE refused to turn the gas back on, because it was a weekend...I feel the is B.S., it doesn't tack that long to push a button, don't people care any more?? What is this world coming to...this is a low income family from Big Rapids, Michigan, at 315 Woodward, that should be appoligized to. Next time someone has a heart felt problem, DTE needs to find a HEART!

GAS BILL INCREASE
Just when life can't possibly get any worse, I just received my DTE Energy gas bill today. Normally I pay $40 per month for gas but my bill has dramatically increased to $167.00 per month. According to DTE Energy, there was a “Gas Rate Change” and I have to pay it or they will shut it off. Crazy right, I don't recall ever receiving a notice from DTE Energy letting me know my gas bill would be over 4x’s what I use to pay per month. This is just so wrong, I am unemployed right now in Michigan like many others. Talk about kicking somebody when their down... God knows I will be boiling water real soon. If anyone can shed some light on this subject, it would be greatly appreciated.

Bad customer service
I would like to complain about customer service in the city of detroit, dte energy customer service. my husband is responsible for the gas bill i am responsible for the lights, ironically, one income can't cover charges. husband recieved shut off notice of 582.00. he went to the company paid 400.00 to a customer representative, with entire bill, the money was taken, reciept given. friday @ 5:00 field rep came shut off gas. called spoke to a manager regarding remaining balance. paid remainder balance plus reconnect fee plus more expenses/all to be informed that no heat until monday with 2 children, 2 dogs, the manager asked me could i find friends or family to stay with after taking 400.00 no i don't nor can i go to a hotel without money. merry christmas in this 21 degree weather.

Shut Off Despite Payments
I've been paying DTE Energy $245.00 consistently every month (yes, even in the summer) because they enrolled me in a shutoff protection plan. I made my last payment on July 15th, but received a disconnect notice on August 13th. They will not take payments, but instead told me to call DHS ask for help with my bill. I'm unemployed and have two young children. I know if services are shut off, I'll not be able to reconnect because I'm trying to support my family on my meager UIA benefits. I could understand having my service turned off if I weren't paying my bill, but I am paying.

Billing Errors & Bad Customer Service
Over the past 10 months, DTE Energy has mis-read my gas meter three times resulting in outrageous charges, which I at first refused to pay. In prior years, it was common to have this happen once or twice a year.
I complained each time and was promised the problem would be fixed. It was NOT! Furthermore, their customer service department throws up roadblocks at every opportunity when I called, including refusing to transfer your call to a supervisor, and putting your call on endless hold to discourage you. I have also been told "Sorry, there are no supervisors available today". They also ask you to repeat your service address, phone number, account information, etc. repeatedly - again to discourage you from pursuing your complaint.
Right now, I have been waiting over a month for copies of my past bills, so I can compare them with the checks I have sent them.
Trying to escalate to a higher level in DTE is futile. They do not publish phone numbers or email addresses of their employees. Everyone above the level of clerk is totally insulated from the public. I am able to email the President of the United States, but I can't contact a supervisor at DTE Energy!
I involved the Michigan Public Utility Commission, but they also seem to care little about customer complaints. There has been NO follow-through initiative on their part to push for a resolution to my problem. It has been up to me - EVERY TIME - to initiate contact and complain about the lack of resolution. They respond, but take no leadership role.
Early on, I insisted on corresponding by email so I have proof of what happened (or didn't happen) and when. This hard-copy may be needed if this problem ever gets to court.

FALSE BILLING
DTE Energy company is billing me for gas and electric used at a home i sold over 4 yrs ago. i finalized all elec. and gas bills upon sale of the home. don get it. i have been told they do this as ascam to hook former homeowners for bills on homes that have been forclosed or walked away from by the present owners.

Telemarketing
Incessant phone calls all day and into evening hours. They escape the national Do Not Call Registry because we do business with them but do we have much choice since they're the electric utility here? To make matters worse, it appears they are even outsourcing the telemarketing to some country where English is not the primary language!

worst customer service
DTE consistently makes billing errors, blames it on customers, charges the customers, and refuses to correct (or even investigate any problems).

First, when I moved into this house and transferred my service from my old address, they never sent a bill to the new address. They shut off my service, charged me to reconnect, and insisted that I had never been a customer! I had lived a mile away, and been a DTE customer for nine years prior. They said my previous address did not exist, and even when I provided copies of four years worth of DTE bills at that address, they could not find my account, and insisted I was new. I filed many complaints and never got resolution.

Two years ago, DTE stopped sending bills. They blamed it on the post office. I signed up for "recurring payments" (I felt forced). I paid all finance charges for late fees. Again, no one responded to my complaints.

This Feb. 09, I got a shut off notice. DTE automatically charges my credit card company (I checked w/VISA and they have paid), but DTE didn't charge the account. They actually lied and said that I had "un-subscribe" to this service, although I have proof that my card was charged, and I also have copies of ebills I have continued to receive.

Once again, DTE denies it is the fault of the company. Once again I have paid the finance charges, but I am still receiving shut off notices!

DTE's service is abominable! They treat customers horribly because they can -- they have no competition in Oakland Co. It is ridiculous that we in Michigan don't have access to better service, and something should be done to put this company out of business!

shut off
URGENT electricity was shut off 10/08 shut off bill in last residents name. I paid deposit for service in sept.2005 and never received bill. Never. Contacted Better Business Bureau then Dte Headquarters contacted me. Took shut off notice to DHS received letter that they paid $350.oo, then last week received bill with my name to imediately pay $60.00 which I did in person. Still no services
and spoke this morning with Ms. Watkins at headquarters and now says to pay $180.00 this is a run around so now I still have no lights (H E L P ) any suggestions or contacts. I do have school age children will there be lights for our holidays.

Terrible customer service
I have attempted to return to receiving a regular, paper bill from DTE energy ever since I enrolled in e-bill and I never received my statements. I contacted the company by phone twice and sent one email requesting them to PLEASE SEND ME A BILL.

Instead, I kept receiving threatening calls when my bill due date passed. I would immediately pay when I was told the amount, and once again request a paper bill.

The last time, they did not call - they just placed a negative report on my ABSOLUTELY PERFECT credit report.

I called to, ONCE AGAIN, complain and I received a lecture about how I was supposed to know when my bills were due and how I should have been going to the website to check the amount.

THIS IS NOT A COMPANY WHO SHOULD HAVE A MONOPOLY ON SERVICE TO CUSTOMERS. They are incompetent and it is the customers who pay the price.
