OLD KEY WEST
Arrived at Old Key West resort on June 5th after 18hrs of driving from Katy, Texas. Checked in and got to the room only to find it dirty. The floor had visible dirt and some dried blood in the bathroom. There was a dead roach in the cabinet. After alerting front desk they issued us another room. This room was clean. So I thought that we could just concentrate on the vacation now. However that night we visited the pool outside our room and found the girls bathroom disgustingly dirty. And apparently smoking is very permitted because people were sitting at the table outside our patio puffing away. Pretty much made our patio useless to us. The next day we thought we would go to the main pool . We noticed that a kart had dropped some room garbage on the road and the extra bags were strewn on the grounds. After we got to the pool we noticed the towel return over flowing with dirty towels falling onto the ground. After about an hour went back to our room on the way noticed the garbage still strewn on the street and new bags in the grass.the next day went to the Epcot. Came back took our girls 17, 16.13 to the main pool about 9:30pm. Decide to leave at 10 and took my 13 year old not feeling comfotable with the several people smoking about the spa area. Soon after that my 17year old texted me saying their were lots of people drinking and one made a comment at her. I have never had my kids feel so uncomfortable at any other Disney resort. Decide to go to the park to get away from the resort the next day. Came in around 11:00 while walking from stop to room we were asked by an older very intoxicated lady directions to the hospitality house. Went straight to sleep and then woke up to lady screemming a kids next door sounded like it was so close, had to open the door twice to make sure it wasn't right outside. Anyway it appears the sound insulation is very poor in Old Key West resort. Checked out on June 10th and back in at Wilderness resort which was great. Rebecca our check in clerk was amazing. Feel like we just wasted our time and points at the Old Key West couldn't wait to leave it. Back home now and took our family vehicle for wash and seems still have Old Key West with us in the form of a nice coating of overspray of paint from the remodeling crews. So now Im still dealing with the results of our horrible stay at Old Key West. Look we are Disney for life 6 years DVC and have had lots of great memories there but I expect the quality of stay to meet our expectations and comproble investment into our vacation. This 4 night stay at Old Key West was a waste of our vacation points and dollars.

DVC Misrepresentation
My family and I are from and live in the UK and vacationed to Disney World in Florida in June 2008. During the vacation we met with and bought into the DVC Membership sales pitch. Being from the UK we were reticent about joining, until we were assured that the DVC points were redeemable at ALL Disney resorts across the world and even some partner sites. For us & our children (aged 4 & 8) this seemed like a perfect opportunity and investment, as we would not want to, nor could afford to, travel to Florida every year - however to be able to use our points all over the world and most importantly (the KEY selling factor for us) use these points at Euro Disney - for us this is an easy journey and relatively inexpensive and so we could visit Euro Disney for several short breaks throughout a year - we invested and bought our DVC membership at a cost of roughly £10, 000.
For our 2009 vacation my wife and I decided to bank our points so that we would treat the children to a Christmas break at Euro Disney. Needless to say they were very excited about this prospect.
There were many TV adverts in the UK about spending Christmas at Euro Disney, etc. but as DVC members, we were expecting to only have to pay for our travel arrangements. We fully expected our accommodation and park tickets to be fully redeemable with the amount of points we had banked, however as it turns out Euro Disney are NOT part of DVC and so would not accept our DVC points for the booking we wanted. They would accept our use of DVC points to book standard rooms - but with a 4 & 8 year old 2 separate rooms is not an option. To upgrade the standard rooms to a suite and book park tickets, would, it transpires, cost us more than if we had just booked by phone and quoted the TV advert offer which we could not afford - and so my wife and I had to break our promise to the children that we would spend Christmas at Disney. Whilst my daughter (aged 4) was upset when we explained the situation as best we could to our son (aged 8), he said "he doesn't want to go Disney again if they treat his mummy and daddy like that".
I have contacted Disney and pronounced my disgust and have basically got no response and no interest. There have been some conversations but as soon as I state I want them to buy the membership back as it was mis sold to me, things go very quiet. I had discussions from a lady in member services who confirmed I could not use the points at Euro Disney, but "how about I use them at one of the Disney partner hotels in London"!!! Not very useful for the children and certainly not for Christmas.
However, as a non US resident I do not know where we stand and so am looking for any help or advise I can get. The experience we have had seems that DVC, and by extension, Disney has no interest or care in non US members or fans. My wife was extremely upset by the fact that our 8 year old son would be so disheartened by the ordeal he would turn his back on Disney - remembering that their catch phrase is where Dreams Come True the DVC seems very capable of breaking them!
I realize that through the words above I have not done justice to the true dismay and unhappiness we have experienced with this ordeal, let's just say that I, my wife and our children fell in love with Disney world on our trip in 2008 and had planned many more wonderful visits. This dream has since been shattered, and I most definitely cannot afford to simply write off over £10, 000 - which is we what I am faced with at the moment. Any help or advice is appreciated - my email is [email protected].
Thank you
