I received a phone call from Movie Gallery in Allegan, MI 49010. They said I was being offered a free 5 day rental on a movie and I think and/or game. They said all I had to do was when I came in and picked out a movie, to tell them at the check out counter about this phone call for a free 5 day movie rental and that was all I had to do. So being the holidays, I didn't get to the store right away...When I went in tonight (01/01/10) I was told at the store that I got the phone call on 12/16/2009. Today is Jan 1, 2010. So I went in tonight and picked out my movie and told them about the phone call and they proceeded to tell me that the phone call I received was on 12/16/09 and that it was too late now the offer expired. They said it expired after six days. What really bothers me is that I was NOT TOLD there was an expiration date. Not a word was mentioned about it before this evening. So I assumed there was no expiration date, nor ever gave that a thought. Also as I have had this offer before and went in whenever it worked out for me time-wise and was never told then either that there is/was an expiration date/time. Had I known, of course I would have tried to find a time that would work for my schedule. The young man behind the counter said he's worked there for a while and it has always been six days then the offer expires. I told him I've had this offer before and never had a problem at all and was never told/informed of an expiration date. He still would not keep the offer for me and I had to leave empty handed. I will take my businesss elsewhere from now on if this offer is not rectified. I have been a good customer and only ever had one late fee that I can remember. I just don't think this is a fair situation being that I was never in the past nor the phone call on 12/16/09, informed of any kind of expiration date or that it even existed. Besides my free movie offer (that I have been looking forward to using after the holidays) I was terribly embarassed by this most unfortunate occurrence; I was very humiliated. I think my free movie offer should still stand. I have been going to that store for at least 10 years and the employee that waited on me upon check-out appears fairly new to me and I actually don't remember ever seeing him there, as is the situation with most of the young men employees in that store. I mention this because he is the one who said he has worked there for a while and it has always been a 6 day expiration. As far as any business done in that store by myself, it did not seem that the expiration issue existed before his employment began there, because as I mentioned, this never happened before nor was it ever mentioned nor was I ever told of an expiration time.
I would appreciate your time and would like this situation rectified as soon as possible or as I said, I will take my business elsewhere and I will inform my friends and family of this most unfortunate (and lack of communication issues) and the unfriendly new employees there. Which is another complaint in itself. I'll be brief in saying that the store has mostly young men employed; I would guess all in their early 20's at the most and they have always been rude, arrogant and not very friendly or helpful, ever, not one time when I take my business to the Allegan MI store.
