I recently rented a car from E-Z Rent-A-Car in Tampa, FL. E-Z Rent-A-Car overcharged me by more than $1700.00. Because I provided a debit card, these funds were taken from my checking account.
On March 28, 2011, I returned the vehicle to the E-Z Rent-A-Car branch in Tampa around 8:30 PM. The representative processed a Refund for the $1700.00 charge. I was told it would take 3-5 business days, before I would see the funds credited to my checking account. At the time, this charge was a huge problem for me. It put my account in the negative, because I did not plan for it. Having just moved to Tampa, I was in the process of renting an apartment and I was unable to do so easily. Still, I was very patient with them and agreed to wait.
Then, on March 31st, I did not see the refund. I called my banker from Sun Trust Bank, Jeff Martin. He checked with the corporate bank representative and they concluded there was no transaction in the Pending Queue. I was alarmed. So, my banker and I called the Manager at E-Z Rent-A-Car. We were on the phone with him for 1 hour, as he provided us with various identification numbers for the transaction, and insisted it had been posted. His excuse was that it had not yet been 3-5 business days, so the transaction was not yet viewable. I took his word and again waited.
Today is April 8th, 2011. It has been 9 business days since the refund was posted. My banker once again has concluded that there is no refund for $1700.00 in the pending queue of my account. This transaction was NOT posted. Because of this, I am unable to pay my rent for April. I have been charged a $75 late fee with my landlord. In addition, I am unable to pay other bills, for which I will be charged late fees.
Last night, on April 7th, 2011, I called the E-Z Rent-A-Car branch in Tampa. I spoke to the representative who originally processed the refund. He told me it was absolutely processed, and there must be a mistake. He promised me the Manger would call me back. It is 10:35 AM, and I have not yet heard back from anyone.
I demand they refund my money today. This is absolutely unacceptable and by far the WORST car rental experience I have ever had in my life. I am so upset, and what's worse, I feel very helpless. As a company, they are holding MY funds, illegally, and taking advantage of my good faith and trust in them.
Please rectify this situation at once. I do not want to hear that it will be another 3-5 business days. I want these funds in my account TODAY. If I need to, I will go to the physical E-Z Rent-A-Car branch and pick up cash! If I do not hear back from you with my requested solution, I will have no other choice than to file a claim with whatever small business organization I have to, including a fraud claim with my bank, because this IS a fraudulent charge. Please find it within yourselves to do the right and decent thing, to honor your word, and to fix a situation which has gone out of control by mismanagement and false promises, inconveniencing one of YOUR customers, and make this right.
