In Dec of 2008 I purchased an Interstate Battery from the local Car Quest parts store for my 1982 Corvette. A 1982 Corvette has the battery compartment behind the drivers seat and is designed in such a manner that to put the Battery in backwards would be impossible. After proper installation I turned on ignition and the car immediatly filled up with smoke. The battery was disconnected and taken back to Car Quest to be tested. When hooked up correctly the battery registered totally dead, when hooked up in reverse the battery showed 12.7 amps. Car Quest sent battery back to East Penn Manufacturing Co. They ran tests on the Battery and found that it was reversed polarity and sent me a letter stating this. However, they will not stand behind their product. The reason that was stated to me was they claimed the battery was reversed charged in the field. The Corvette's electronic components including ECM were fried. The mechanic who did the repairs stated the only time he saw anything worse was a running car struck by lightening. I am out of pocket $3, 000 and not finished yet.
I would not recommend the insterstate battery to my worst enemy.
