Buyers
I know this isn't really a complaint about EBAY, but I haven't sold anything on EBAY for sometime because it is a huge pain. I took a chance, and yet again, the buyer had to make it difficult.
I have only had one problem buying from a seller and they rectified it. So I can't really complain about my buying experience. I have on occasion listed to sell vintage fashion that I no longer needed or cell phones (new and used ones).
My selling experience has varied. Alot of times it was seamless. But what gets me, is the buyers who don't follow the rules. After difficult experiences with buyers with no buying history (they are either non-pay dead beats or don't know how to proceed in the purchase), bad feedback (deadbeats), and international buyers (I am not a professional seller on EBAY, so it is usually inconvenient for me to deal with international shipping. Also, if you quote the shipping incorrectly, you take a loss), I decided to specifically state in my auction that they could not bid with low or bad feedback without my permission first. And stated it was only shipped domestic.
What happens? I had a good domestic bidder with alot of good feedback. But then a zero bidder from India outbids him. Then a bidder from Vietnam outbids that one. I don't know how good a buyer he is because 59 of his 60 feedback is selling and one feed back is from buying last year. His excuse for why he bid when I said it was a domestic auction only? Well "I emailed you and you didn't respond quickly, so I bid, so I could win".
Do people not read or know how to follow rules? I get so tired of reading on the complaint site how people blame everone but themselves. Now I personally have to experience their stupidity. Learn to read. If you don't like what you read, doesn't mean you can change it to something you do like. Lastly, do not complain or make excuses about it after the fact.
I now have to go to post office and get the price, email it to him, and hope he pays it. I explained he will not get it at the domestic cost. He says I can quote off USPS.com. Well, the small box is too small, and the medium box is somewhat oversized for the need and too expensive ( I think). So I refuse to quote the lower price and surprise, when I go to ship it, I will be charged more (obviously I can't quote, based on the boxes they provide).
So if I am lucky, I will only be inconvenienced by TWO trips to the post office and he will actually pay. Otherwise, I have to take the time to relist it...My issue with EBay itself- none. Just that they are open to all people, including idiots.

Greedy Liars
I recently had a buyer who lied about an item not being delivered and I knew that it was delivered because I had delivery conformation and even called the post office. The buyer went to Ebay to complain and ebay returned his money even though I had the delivery conformation number. I tried to discuss it with ebay and they did not even care about what I had to say. Then in another incident this month a customer gave me my first negative feedback with no reason and I tried to contact him and no response and then I tried to contact ebay about it and they said they couldnt do anything without a proper explanation. And my last personal complain is ebay charged me a higher fee on one of my expensive items which was about double the final value fee which made no sense i complained about this and they still somehow brushed it off and said that I was somehow wrong? Ebay is a crooked company they do not care for their users especially not sellers since they always find a way to screw them over! Ebay also seems to charge way too much on selling fees first their is a listing fee then a final value fee then their is another fee for paypal which they also own. Ebay and Paypal are greedy and only care about money I am no longer interested in doing business with them because if you are going to run a company that services people then you should treat the customers with respect and fairly and shouldnt try to constantly find ways to take more and more money from them without offering them something more!

Selling
Do NOT sell on eBay! Their fees are way to high not to mention even though your listing is supposed to be a binding contract, eBay does honor it. I sold an $80 dress with a 7 day return policy with buyer to pay shipping costs. After 25 days the buyer contacted me advising that she had worn the dress and it was damaged. She opened a case with eBay claiming the item was not as described (which is a lie, the listing clearly showed a photo of the collar where she was claiming the damage was done and in fact it wasn't damage at all but how the collar was designed, easily viewable from the pictures on the listing) . eBay put a hold on the money she had paid for the item and shipping and told me to refund her money in addition to the money on hold or I would loose my top rated seller status. Keep in mind, not only did they hold all the money when I had paid out of pocket for shipping, but I had to shell out an additional $85 to refund her for the dress and shipping again. She shipped the dress back without tags and eBay says since we are both back at our original points in the transaction the case is closed. Seems to me, someone at eBay needs to take some math and reading classes...oh wait...maybe that isn't it at all? Maybe they are just slanted. Because of this I am not listing any additional items in my store and as soon as my online store is ready to go I will be removing the listings I already have up. I also think that I am going to boycott eBay and not buy anything on there again.

unlawful charges and fees
I am sick of ebay ripping the people off! they are a billion dollar business for a reason! Because they are stealing the peoples money! 1st from charging numerous confusing fees at different times. To suspending your account or demanding more information when an issue arrives. To allowing buyers to do charge backs! I am also fed up with their affiliation to pay pal which is no better! With putting holds and charge backs on peoples funds plus charging additional fees for the charge backs. A complete SCAM & RIP OFF! I hope we can all come together with this. I am considering a class action law suit! I reported both companies to the better business bureau today! Please do the same!

customer services
I have an exemplary record as an Ebay (UK) seller until just recently when two buyers tried their best to defraud me by making false claims about goods they had bought. I complained to ebay customer services and their defamation department and even though they agreed that the two were in the wrong i.e. Paypal released funds that they had frozen at one buyers' behest as she tried to fraudulently claim that what she had received was not what had been advertised and the other had tried to renegotiate payment terms when he arrived to pick up a boat that he had bought and then took only what he wanted and left the rest - a total breach of their own policies - yet they have allowed the negative comments to remain. I have sent 9 emails with the defam form attached and also sent it to them via surface mail - they claim not to have received it. I sent proof of posting with yet another copy of the from and they removed the comments but have left the negative feedback - why? their alleged 'customer services department' are good for nothing, they have the worst performance level of any service I have ever encountered and they now have the temerity to reduce my seller status because of these two negative comments - even though I pay the same rate to list and their fees as everyone else. I would go to Trading Standards but they are just as bad and have no teeth - any suggestions?

Fraud on damaged Martin Guitar
Seller described a Martin D45 guitar as "typical nicks and scratches of a 13 year old guitar. Three photos, from a distance, were shown. I paid $4500. for the guitar and when it arrived I saw "significant structural damage." Next, I visited with three Martin authorized luthiers including a visit to the Martin Guitar Co, in Nazareth PA, all within 2 working days after the guitar arrived. All three luthiers evaluated the guitar identifying the "significant structural damage." The fretboard was pushed toward the sound-hole by 1/2 inch. I contacted the seller who gave me the "screw you." I contacted eBay's resolution center which, after 5 days of deliberation and review of the luthier's evaluations found in favor of the seller. I then filed a lawsuit for FRAUD against the seller. If you have seen the eBay website over the last 30 days, they have revised their website claiming "Buyer Protection." When any organization makes claims to counter bad press, it's generally a fact that they are guilty and even in collusion with eBay scamers.

$300,000 Bank Fee
ATTENTION ALL EBAY SELLERS $300, 000 Attachment to your Bank Account!
This is an Email sent to EBAY on 11/1/2010 with no response so far.
You have again changed your requirements for selling. You now require that you have
unlimited access to my bank account through Pay Pal. This will not due.
You cannot have unlimited access to my personal funds, that is stupid and I will never
agree to that. If you would like me to sell on Ebay ever again you need to change this.
As you must be aware if you don't okay automatic payment my items are rejected and will
not upload. It's hard enough already to use Ebay for selling, it just gets hard and
harder every year and the more we complain the less Ebay cares. So many people we know
will never us Ebay because of these dumb rules for sellers. You know that Turbo Lister
tells you how much to charge for shipping and the price often time is less than it
actually costs! What about not having enough to cover shipping? This inturn makes it
impossible to list These items at all.
It's about time you sent my concern's to John Donahue the President of Ebay and not
responded from what your screen tells you to say (copy and paste). Please don't send me a
prepared answer, I am so sick of them.
This is what happened to my account AUTOMATICALLY:

Open Letter to eBay
Open Letter to eBay (a cautionary tale)
I have been a long time eBay user, a loyal customer and seller, advocate, cheerleader, and even a shareholder of the company stock - but my most recent experience has forever changed my opinion of this company.
My journey to resolve a 2-minute simple situation took me deep into the bowels of eBay’s indifferent and arrogant customer service department, tumbling down a black hole I found myself in the pit of customer service hell, snarled for weeks in their labyrinth I was flushed out the other end of this mind-numbing experience having wasted countless of hours of my time, only to find myself no closer to a resolution, convinced this company couldn’t give a damn about their customers.
Short story: I sold an item to a buyer that ended up in dispute. eBay settled the dispute in my favor, yet the buyer was still able to leave negative retaliatory feedback, even though his stated claim was fraudulent. My question (and request), is it possible to have this erroneous feedback removed?
Much abbreviated “G” rated history of events:
• Over the course of three (3) weeks I have spent no less than 30+ hrs on hold.
• I have spoken to 22 different customer service representatives and had 6 separate chat sessions.
• Each representative required that rehash and re-explain in exhaustive detail, ad nauseam, the same points over and over again (22 + 6 = 28 times) because they keep NO record of your previous call/transcript.
• After each lengthy explanation, every rep told me they did not have the authority to help me with this matter, but assured me this would be taken care of, and transferred me to the Trust and Safety dept (who do have the authority) where …
• Each time I was promptly disconnected or rang busy (19 times).
• Each time I was told that if I get disconnected they would call me back. I’m still waiting for those 19 callbacks.
• Start over again.
• On 3 occasions the transferred call actually made it through (yay!) to Trust and Safety where I was able to explain the circumstances to a live human, only to be put on hold so they could “look into it”, and then I got disconnected… again.
• The End!
My initial thought was that my experience was the result of complete unmitigated incompetence, which is almost tolerable. But after three weeks of exhaustive effort and numerous conversations with these staffers, I am convinced I was on the receiving end of a malicious and insidious strategy at eBay to throw up so many unbearable, herculean, and painful obstacles that you get worn out, ground down, and just go away bewildered.
However, there is no way anyone can justify and explain-away the experience described above with a just lack of training or simple ignorance in customer service department. This was mean-spirited, arrogant, and disrespectful. The fact that everyone in this department at eBay was “on the same page” exposes eBay’s leadership, the intent of their customer service scheme, and their total lack of regard for those who, in the end, pay their salaries.
This has been, without equivocation, the absolute worst customer experience I have ever encountered. eBay makes the airlines industry look like five-star JD Power customer service rock-stars!
As a consumer: It is unacceptable for any company to treat their paying customers with this level of disdain, disrespect, and lack of regard. I have never encountered this level of unaccountability, ignorance, and indifference at any company I have ever done business with. Thankfully, there are many other retail-auction options, so I will vote with my two feet, and take my business elsewhere.
As a shareholder: A strategy that centers on giving your customers the proverbial stiff-arm and middle finger is not a sound, ethical, or long-term sustainable business strategy (This also in part explains why my investment has been in the tank for years). A multi-billion dollar company can fly blind for a long time (maybe years) with incompetent pilots, a dysfunctional flight plan, and a broken autopilot, but eventually this vessel will meet the side of a mountain and crash, it is inevitable. As a shareholder I have seen enough to know my investment is not in capable nor ethical hands, so I have sold my entire long term equity position in this company, and will take my money elsewhere.
Of course I tried to tell my tale of whoa to someone higher up at eBay, but I was on hold for hrs, hung up on, disconnected, etc, etc.
This was not meant to be a rant that falls on the trash-heap along with millions of other unanswered complaints, rather I hope this ends up in the hands of someone at eBay that actually gives a damn about the company and their customers, and becomes a wake up call for this once great business.
Regards,
XX

ebay scams sellers
Ebay charged the fee for listing my item but when you search for my item it doesn't show up on the list. I filed a complaint which they said they were escalating but gave me no feedback or followup and didn't fix the problem. I spent 3 hours just to get a tech to "tell me" he filed a report with tech support. Seven days later, after my item expired while still bugged, I spent another 2 hours on chat trying to get 1. followup or 2. a refund of my listing fees. Here is my chat transcript.:
Lei N.: Hi, Cindy. How may I help you today?
Cindyrhoward: I need to find out the status of ticket #2516630
Lei N.: What's this issue all about?
Cindyrhoward: can you read the issue? it took me over an hour to get the last person to understand the problem. Can you take a couple min and read the notes from the other person pls
Lei N.
If I got you correctly, you're having some tech issues on your eBay account, is that right?
cindyrhoward
It's not a tech issue on my account, no. It's a tech issue on ebay's database. I'm selling a used, complete wedding set, men's ring, women's band and ring. So, the main search is "Condition: Used", "Type:Engagement Ring & Multiple Bands" but when you select that criteria, my rings don't show up on the list so people wanting a used complete set can't see my item to bid on it or even know it exists. Ebay had 7 days to fix it but didn't even send me an e-mail and my item didn't sell. I don't want to relist and have it do the same thing. I want to know why it's not showing up under "Type: Engagement & Multiple Bands" when I have that field properly set. I feel I should get a refund of my listing fees since your database was in error and not displaying my item.
Lei N.: Ok an issue of your eBay site. So what's going on?
Cindyrhoward: I want to speak to a supervisor please. i just wrote a paragraph as to what's going on and then you ask "what's going on?" also, i asked you to read the ticket number 2516630
Lei N. For this issue Cindy, I'm sorry the site issue is still ongoing. Our technical team is working on this problem to be solved as soon as possible.
Cindyrhoward: ok, can i get some proof they are working on it? for example, an e-mail would be nice
Lei N.: Have you checked as well your browser? It could be a browser or computer issue as well.
Cindyrhoward: it does the same thing on multiple machines. I am now 4 hours trying to get this resolved and you people don't even TRY to understand the problem. I want to speak to a supervisor
Lei N.: Let me check if I can get a supervisor on the floor.
Cindyrhoward: thank you!
Lei N.: I've already notate on this matter and report againt the case to tech support.
Cindyrhoward: Ok I get that, but why no e-mail or customer follow-up? This is a CRITICAL issue for me, it's costing me time and money. I need to be apprised of the status of this ticket.
Lei N.: Sorry but we can't email the tech issues we have on site. It's for internal reference only.
Cindyrhoward: the last tech told me the opposite. He said I would receive an e-mail.
Lei N.: Yes I see the ticket and it's still open.
Cindyrhoward: fine, the ticket is open, my item is expired. How about a refund of my listing fees? This is an ebay problem that was unresolved. I want my money back.
Chat Session Ended, Goodbye. (5010)
---
That's right. She HUNG UP on me. LOL! If it's not a simple problem that's on their list, they give you the middle finger.
So, I'm currently on hold again with an estimated wait time of 91 minutes and I"m sure I"ll get the same thing.
ebay is completely unethical and takes no responsibility for their problems. There is no way to track down the support technicians (who don't even speak fluent English) and impossible to speak to a supervisor. No Phone Number for ebay. No e-mail addres for ebay. No ACCOUNTABILITY FOR EBAY!
They can tell anyone to buzz off and get away with it so why shouldn't they? I hope someone reading this complaint decides against paying fees to ebay.
