eCost sold me a broken TV
Sept 09 I ordered a 47" lcd tv from ecost.com. It arrived looking ok, but when plugged in displayed only a cracked screen pattern. I immediately called ecost customer service. The rep advised me it wasn't their problem, that I shouldn't have accepted the shipment (UPS later told me that isn't even an option), and that I needed to call the manufacturer for warranty support. I did, and followed the steps to send the TV back. After a few weeks, I was promised a refund (I've since learned that ecost and the manufacturer have agreements between them). 20 or so calls to both companies, and three months later, and I still don't have my money or a TV. eCost sold me a broken TV, kept my money, and refused to help me in any way at all. They STOLE my money! STAY AWAY!!!

20% restocking fee
We purchased a linksys wireless usb adapter form Ecost.com. They sent the item to the wrong address. I caught the error and informed them the product was shipped to a vacant house. They advised me UPS would not leave the item but return it to the mfg. The item was sent and UPS did not require a signature. I drove 30 miles to retrieve the package and called ecost to return it to the mfg. Ecost advised me that would return the item and charge me a 20% restocking fee for their error.

A 20% restocking fee because they failed to halt a shipment and require a signature as they stated. Do not do business with ecost.com. Their customer service is probably located in some storage warehouse in the slums of India! 20%!!!1

Worst Customer Service
Bought a REFURBISHED HP desktop computer. On the site, it said the unit had a defective Hard Drive, but said it was replaced and unit was operational. Was a little skeptical, so i called customer service. Agent confirmed that the site was correct and that it was indeed replaced and the desktop works. When i received and plugged it in, got a BSOD (Blue screen of Death) saying BAD HARD DRIVE. And on the box that it was shipped from, there was a BIG RED label saying it WAS NOT OPERATIONAL, and the reason was because...BAD HARD DRIVE. So even after calling customer service to confirm that their site was true, it was still false. They shipped the item to me with a big red label saying it wasn't operational. Now it's taking 2 weeks after contacting customer service without a response.

Frustrating online shopping experience
I have NEVER had a more MISERABLE and FRUSTRATING online shopping experience in the 12 years I have been shopping with internet retailers. On March 9, 2009 I ordered a Westinghouse 26" LCD TV from ECost.com. I THOUGHT it was an AMAZING deal so I also bought the Square Trade Extended Warranty as well. When I got the TV and went to set it up I disvovered that it had NO base with it for the TV to sit on. The screws for the base were in the bag with the remote control and the booklet, but NO BASE. I immediately called the Customer Service number. It took several days, a few emails and 2 more phone calls but I received a base in the mail, FINALLY. I was thrilled, I took it out of the box and discovered it was the WRONG BASE and could NOT be used! Once again I called ECost.com and was once again told they would forward my complaint on to a resolution Specialist. 4 days later I get an email stating that I needed to return the ENTIRE TV and repurchase another one. WHAT THE HECK???? ALL I NEEDED was a BASE for my TV. Today was the LAST STRAW for me. I was placed on hold for 15 minutes and then I spoke with someone who CLAIMED to be a supervisor who talked to me like I was a criminal or something. She REFUSED to help me, and told me that I would have to do it THEIR way or NO WAY and I would be stuck with a TV that is balancing on my dresser without a base stand. I simply can NOT afford to pay for another TV and shipping and allow ECost.com to hold onto over $600 of my hard earned money while I wait to be refunded for the TV without the stand. I have spoken to customer service reps on 5 seperate occassions and each time I was treated as if I had done something wrong. I have worked in Customer Service for many years and if I EVER talked to a customer the way I have been talked to I would have been fired immediately. Apparently they do NOT CARE about their customers OR the crappy products they are selling to consumers!!! This has been a NIGHTMARE, and I intend to blog about this on EVERY, SINGLE consumer rip off and complaint site I can find. I am BEYOND IRATE at this point, and STILL almost a month WITHOUT A RESOLUTION!!!

my order
If you order from this place, then you need your head examined.
I ordered a bluetooth mouse and bluetooth adapter on 7/18/09. I received the mouse on 7/22/09, but not the adapter. I called e-cost and they informed me that the adapter was backordered so they canceled it. I convinced them to send me a different adapter at over twice the price. I received the order confirmation e-mail on 7/22/09 for the replacement adapter. Today, 7/29/09, I called and talked to Ryan in “customer service” and they didn't have the adapter in stock at this warehouse so it was canceled. I asked to return the mouse, and Ryan says "we only accept returns if the item doesn't work". Let's see, how does the mouse work if there is no adapter. Ryan says, "I can order you a different adapter, or get the same adapter from another warehouse, but the price will be higher."
Their sales tactics are deceptive and fraudulent. Even if an item is not in stock, their website shows that it is in stock. Even if their customer service rep tells you that an item is in stock and you place the order when them, the item probably isn’t in stock. I’ll be contacting the Iowa Attorney Generals office about my order.

fishy practice
Went to place an order where the billing and shipping addresses were different. The billing name and address DID match the credit card used to place the purchase and it was being shipped elsewhere as a GIFT. Approximately 10 days after ordering, the recipient still had not received the item. We called Ecost and was told that the order was canceled due to not passing "credit review". There was plenty of money on the cc to make the purchase and had Ecost done what most normal companies do: Check the billing address to make sure it matches the cc, check the cvv code against the card and also preauthorize the card when the order is submitted to verify funds, then they wouldn't have had to cancel the order and then LIE about why they did it. FYI: The words "credit review" to me mean something entirely different from preauthorization, etc. You expect to hear it when you're getting your credit report pulled, not making a purchase. Judging from the other issues with them on this site, I guess it's not a bad thing it didn't go through, but from hearing them repeatedly tell me that's why they canceled the order and then making excuses when I brought up solutions to avoid people getting their gift orders canceled, they are not worth ordering from. As if that wasn't enough, they actually asked me if we wanted to re-place the order! Of course we said No, we'll order it from someone else! Definitely not worth ordering from. :-) Learn it now before you get screwed.

Broken merchandise
I ordered a refurbished Viewsonic, 24 inch HD monitor for $199. Seemed like a great deal. The monitor came in a non-descript, cardboard box with no manufacturer packaging. It was covered with a used, worn plastic bag and the accessories were just tossed in and floating around freely in the box. The foam carrier holding the monitor was obviously for another product and barely supported the monitor in place.

I took the monitor out and check it. The back was covered in scratches and the side of the monitor where the controls were was split open and the controls would not work (see photo attached). I have bought reconditioned equipment from other stores before and those products always looked new. This so-called, 'refurbished' crap from eCost is simply used, damaged, un-reconditioned JUNK.

I called for a replacement and they wanted me to pay for ANOTHER monitor to replace it. They said they would refund my money for this broken monitor AFTER they got it back, but I had to BUY another monitor if I wanted a replacement. No way were they going to get double my money! So, the customer service rep said they would send me a return label and would send me a replacement monitor once they received the broken one. Fine. Got the label, securely packaged the monitor (a much better job than what they had done), and shipped it back via UPS.

Several days later (and days after UPS had confirmed delivery the monitor), a guy from eCost calls me and says he needs my credit card number to pay for a replacement monitor. WHAT??? He said they received the returned monitor and will process the refund after it is examined, but to get my replacement, I would have to buy another one.

I told him that's not what the previous person had told me. That person had said I'd get a replacement when the broken one arrived. Now, this guy told me that is not their policy. I asked him why should I pay for ANOTHER monitor when they now have the damaged one in their possession? He simply said that Returns are not his department and needed my credit card if I wanted another monitor.

I asked to talk to a manager. He 'tried' to contact one, but all I got was a recorded voice mail message. What was really funny is that the customer service rep I first talked before returning the monitor called herself "Seth". Now, this guy puts me in touch with his manager, also named, "Seth" (this time a man). Coincidence? Doubtful. That sounded very fishy. Needless to say, manager 'Seth' never called me back. There were no more responses to my emails, either.

So, I filed a complaint with the BBB. Lo and behold, a refund appeared in my paypal account shortly thereafer. How about that? I did not order a replacement. Hell no. "Fool me once..."

Lesson learned: eCost may sell decent merchandise when it's NEW, but their refurbished stuff is JUNK. Read the other complaints here. Listen, if it sounds too good to be true, it's likely isn't. They are SCAM artists, trying to unload broken, damaged, crap on unsuspecting customers with the lure of really cheap prices. Then they will try to bilk you for TWICE the cost of the goods when you try to get a replacement. You MAY eventually get your money back, but they've held onto to it (and who knows how much more from others) to earn the interest on it. You, on the other hand, may be hit for interest on your credit card because of this.

eCost states that sales on refurbished goods are final, but if the goods are not as described or damaged, you are entitled to get your money back. Forget the replacement, you'll just get more junk. Call the BBB, file a complaint on boards like this. We have to stop this company from ripping-off us off.
