On Nov. 30, 2009 @ approx. 7-8pm, I was confronted on my way out of the Walmart, on Cypress Gardens Road. He is a young white male, bonde hair, blue eyes..."Sean Rebman". He talked to me as I walked to my car about how he was in college and selling magazines to earn points for a contest. He seemed very nice. Once he approached my car, he saw emblems on it and my necklace, indicating that I am a Christian. I wanted to believe that this young man was telling me the truth. He spoke fast and had no literature as to what magazines that he was selling. He told me of one called "Angels on Earth" and that I might like that. He asked me f I had any cash. I said no. He asked if I had a check, I said, "No." I said that I had a debit card. I took out the card, and asked him how much the magazines cost and how many issues I would recieve. He had a sales ticket with him, which he had already filled out with my name and address. He told me the magazines would cost $16. So, I said, OK. and signed the sales ticket. He, very quickly took my debit card and rubbed a pen over a piece of paper he placed on top of it.
I deidn't think anything of it. Dec. 1 and 2nd, I was busy caring for my neighbor (she is a shut in). She had a doctor appt. each day. And as I was waiting for her, I pulled out to sales ticket, and to my surprise, the price of the magazines were $45.00 plus a $15. processing fee...for a grand total of $60.!!!That is when my mind reviewed the night of the 30th. So, today, Dec. 3; I jumped into action. The sales ticket said that I could cancel the order within 72 hours after the date of "sale". I filled out the back of the ticket and ran it to the post office. Then, I went to Walmart and spoke with the manager. She told me that this was a fraud. Walmart had never given these kids or this company permission to sell in their parking lot. So, right now that are reviewing the security cameras from the night of Nov. 30. I have also spoke to other people who have been confronted by these young boys. They were smart enough not to get involved. And as for me, I can only pray that their will be no financial repercussions from this. After all, I just trusted that this Sean Redman was being honest. And, given the season, I didn't even suspect that he may be scamming me...until I saw the ticket. I know it sounds very naive of me. But I do believe in the basic good of people.
