Three days ago I was approched, in a Wal-Mart parking lot, by a young man who talked extreamly fast. He told me that he was trying to sell magazines to earn points to go to film school. That he wanted to be like Robin Williams.
My husband has a soft heart, so he took out $60 and gave it to the man for a subscription to Shapes Magazine. All fine and dandy.
Well, earlier this evening, a different young man came to my home and was selling the same things, but this time it was for a trip to some island. I tried to tell him that I had already bought from one of his friends. He got a little irritated and told me that I was wrong. Then he continued giving his little speech. I got a little frusterated with him and told him that I didn't have the money. Well he got even more pushy. Told me that I could just donate to a hospital. After I told him 3 more times that I don't have the money to buy from him, he got extreamly irritated, cursed me out, yelled at me, ripped his papers out of my hands and stormed off. It kind of scared me. So I got out my reciept from the "wal-mart" man and looked up the company, Editor & Chief Review, Inc. I must have found over 50 written complaints online about how people were scammed by this company. There was a super long list on BBB's website. I tried to call the phone number on the reciept and I kept getting a busy signal. So I found another number on the BBB's website. I got the same thing, more busy signals. I have a feeling that my money is gone for good. I'm just glad I didn't give the man my credit card number or a check. I will be looking farther into this, even if I have to travel to FL to go to the address listed on the reciept. I also will never open my door to a stranger again. Even if it is my utility guy from the apartment complex.
