There is a group in Colorado that is placing thousands of harassing (abandoned) calls to consumers.

Basically, they'll call you up to 20 times per day as part of a telemarketing effort which they are paid for by Sylvan, DeVry, Global Knowledge, CCI, Florida Metro University, etc.

What they do, they can do legally for 30 days - so be prepared for a lot of harassment.

The phone rings, you pick up, nobody is there. This is called an abandoned call (in telemarketing lingo). What they are doing is putting out thousands of calls per minute, and if one of their telemarketing operators is available, they'll pick up on the other end. Of course, they never are, so your phone rings and nobody is there.

Apparently, they have several companies that contract them to call
leads, however they own the number and they are responsible.

All these calls are in fact from ESM (Education Sales Management). They are a call center that handles several clients including CCI, Devry, sylvan learning centers and some smaller regional education institutions. the COO's name is teresa Engle ([email protected]) and the company president/owner is Rick Fort ([email protected]). This company constantly flirts with the grey areas of the DNC (do not call legislation). When you fill out a form they are considering that a existing business relationship and skate around the do not call registry. by law they have to provide a way for you to remove your number which is the menu you get when you call however they violate the law because they have to remove your number if you call in within a certain time frame (which they don't do) however when they report their numbers back to the client they use these to lower their available leads to make their numbers look better. They are a company this very much about greasing only the squeaky wheel which means unless you contact teresa or rick and threaten legal action (even with a existing business relationship they can only try to call you a couple of times a day) they will not remove your number from active dialing. Another thing to watch out for with this company is they will rotate the number you see on caller ID. so you will get home and have 20 calls from 6 different 8xx numbers.
