FRAUD/Hidden Fees
I booked a trip for my son and paid for it over a year ago. . .i recently logged on to pay for additional "departure fees" and learned that the trip i had payed for had been changed - WITH NO NOTICE. My son is now going on a shorter trip with different departure dates for the same price . . . THIS IS ROBBERY!! I contacted the company and after being on the phone with several people for 2 days i was told - there was nothing they could do, they did not know why the prices were the same, to basically it is not their problem. I was advised to write a letter!

This was VERY frustrating!! I will make sure and tell ALL my friends about my experience with EF Tours.

Cancellation Policy Scam
I booked my child on a school/group tour to Egypt with EF Tours. I booked this trip in October 2010 for summer 2012 travel. I purchased the travel insurance as well. Shortly after signing up, civil unrest in Egypt and Libya erupted. For obvious reasons, we no longer wish to send our son to Egypt. In fact The US State Dept. has issued a warning about non-essential travel to the area. EF Tours has not canceled this trip?? My son's teacher has decided on an alternate trip, however it is a destination that my son has been to. When I called EF Tours to cancel, I was told that the initial membership fee was not refundable, nor was the insurance and they wanted to keep a $250.00 cancellation fee. Are you kidding me? You want to keep the cancellation insurance on a trip you should have cancelled and $250.00 cancellation fee? I said this was unacceptable and was told "I'm sorry you feel that way." Nicole asked if they had planned an alternate tour and I said yes but we were not interested. She then said the Egypt tour was a year away. Seriously? No one is going to send their kid to Egypt in a year!! I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told there wasn't one available but she would have one call me. She then was going to hang up and I asked if she had my phone number. She said yes and read off the wrong number. I am willing to lose the $98.00 but I think it is ridiculous to keep my insurance and a $250.00 cancellation fee for a trip that they should have CANCELLED! Do not do business with this company. They are preying on teachers, parents and students. How low can you go?

Cancellation
My daughter booked a trip and then due to an emergency, called to cancel the next day. They told her that she needed to speak with a specific person and that person was not in. They would not let her talk with a person to cancel her trip, so she emailed them. She never received a response (this was the same email address in which they promptly replied to her questions about the trip before she signed up). She called multiple times every day but the call would not be answered or she would get a voice portal to leave a message. These attempts were all made outside the No Refund time period. However, when she was finally able to speak with the person she needed to talk with, she was told that she was outside the cancellation window and would receive no refund.
This appears to be a common theme with this company. Never have I have read so many negative complaints from parents about a company that caters to students. I hope that our problems with this company will alert others as to how this company does business.

Worst experience EVER!
I was a parent chaperon on a tour to New York and was absolutely disgusted with eftours employees. Their 'trip/tour' person hit on my 14 year old daughter the whole time. He then texted her asking 'are you asleep'. This is bs, when I called the company, they simply said: 'we are not responsible as they are NOT employees of eftours, we will investigate and get back to you'. It's been 8 months and nothing! a$$holes, you will be hearing from my lawyer.

Inaccurate charge for tour
My daughters high school is going on a tour with EF tours this summer. I just found out about it as one of my daughters friends mentioned it to us. When I signed her up they charged me $1000 more than the other parents and also would not honor the $150 off for signing up before Feb 28 which is clearly listed on their website. I talked to a Todd King who was extremely rude. Has anyone registered with EF tours and had this same problem? Is this company for rude as it is very hard to connect with this company. I was told to talk to a Lindsay Gerlach but she hasn't contacted me either. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

HUGE HIDDEN FEES
The tour was listed at "beginning at 1, 495. Our cost was later stated to be 2495. Then, after submitting a deposit we find that the trip will be an ADDITIONAL $1, 000!! It was not listed as additional expenses until we paid the deposit. That does not include spending money. My daughter has worked for months in a diner after school to save for this trip and had over 1, 300 she paid on it. When we discovered the true final price, she decided to cancel as the cost was not possible. When I called the tour company a few weeks ago, I was told it would cost 480.00 to cancel and that price was good until Dec. 21, 2010. Well, today they tell me they will be deducting 680.00 from what she has paid!!! This company truly is a ripoff. THERE WAS NO CANCELLATION FEE LISTED WHEN WE SIGNED UP. BEWARE OF BOOKING WITH EF TOURS.

Scam
This is all scam! Do not trust these people. I just got taken for over $800 bucks because I was mislead from the begging. I was told of no cancellations fees by the group leader and when I went to call and cancel back in June I was told they had a $250 cancellation fee. I wanted to cancel and the rep talked me into putting it on hold and finding a replacement. I was told to call back when I didn't find one. Rep never gave me a date so I called back today and was told it was to late because I had to call back by September 26th! A date I was never given! If it sounds to good to be true, don't believe it!

Fraud
Do not trust your child with these people!!! They are scam artists. They take your money, and dont deliver. They do not communicate with parents, dont care about the students once they get your money. They do not refund, the tour guides do nothing. There is no supervision on these trips!!! Please...dont get scammed like I did. I am out thousands of dollars...The kids were on an Iberian Airlines flight that almost crashed-the engine caught fire, and the flight was aborted. Never got one phone call from anyone-we found out on you tube...They take your money and run...dont go!!! Dont trust your children with them.

Abandoned at train station
FYI to all parents considering EF Tours:
Following a luggage mishap upon our arrival in Paris, my daughter and I lost track of our group. Thank God we were together because after an hour of looking for them and reassuring my daughter that they would NEVER leave us stranded, I was proven wrong. The tour director left us at the Eurostar train station to fend for ourselves!!! His phone number had not been given to everyone because he'd run out of papers- naturally we had not received it! To top it all off, the hotel we were supposed to be staying in had changed from the itinerary so we had no idea where our group was!
What a nightmare our dream vacation turned out to be!
If safety of students is their number 1 priority, I truly worry about the kids whose parents are not with them. We were frantic! My husband(who was home in the U.S. at the time) was able to get info on our "new" hotel and forward it to me. We were then told to take a taxi (70.00 out of my pocket) to meet the group.
FYI- the tour director knew that we were not on the bus and told the rest of the group that they had to leave us at the train station!
I repeat-he had no idea what had happened to us or that my daughter was with me! Again I am so thankful that she was not separated from me!

travel
I had the best time of my life in Costa Rica. Our guide was great. Our planning was great! Our food was amazing! All except one of our hotels ( san jose)were great! I highly reccomend their Costa Rica programs and want to go back so bad! I made tons of new friends and saw so much! My favorite activitys were ziplining, night tour, the hot springs, and visiting the la fortuna waterfall... and the butterfly gardens!

advice: bring dramamine for the bus rides... they are between 2 and 5 hours long. Its a great time to sleep! Dont worry much though, they do make frequent stops at little villages to buy snacks and souviners.

check your bed for bugs

bring tons of batteries... I took 1, 200 pictures in just 8 days
